Book Synopsis Structure and Function in Normal and Abnormal Hips by : Renato Bombelli
Download or read book Structure and Function in Normal and Abnormal Hips written by Renato Bombelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomechanical principles, properly understood, can be used in an innovative approach to evaluate both normal and mechanically abnormal hips. In a completely revised and enlarged edition of his classic on the subject, Dr. Bombelli once again proves his expertise in interpreting the forces responsible for the physiological function or pathological decay of the hip. The third edition, with the new title Structure and Function in Normal and Abnormal Hips, presents more than 250 new illustrations that help you understand the advanced concepts that are comprehensively discussed in the text. The insights gained here have clear implications for the why, when, and how of surgical procedures. From the reviews of the second edition: "...the book supports the author's contention that a detailed examination of radiographs will allow an understanding of the bio-mechanics and evolution of the pattern of degenerative change in osteo-arthritis of the hip, and will allow intelligent planning of surgery... I would warmly recommend this text..." #The British Journal of Radiology# "This book is a must for those of us about to consider a THR and for those radiologists interested in the why and wherefore of this common joint lesion." #Australasian Radiology# "This is a beautifully illustrated book and provides worthwhile reading for orthopaedic registrars and surgeons interested in surgery of the hip joint." #South African Medical Journal#
Book Synopsis Osteoarthritis of the Hip by : Renato Bombelli
Download or read book Osteoarthritis of the Hip written by Renato Bombelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first edition, published in 1976, Professor BOMBELLI demonstrated a clear alternative to total hip replacement that is also useful in cases of advanced osteoarthritis. Since then the number of osteotomies perfor med has reached 2500, which together with the longer follow-up of the original cases means that the author has significantly more experience with his new techniques. He has refined his previous concepts of the pathogenesis and treatment of osteoarthritis, and with the benefit of his experience has further clari fied the indications and contra-indications of valgus-extension and varus osteotomy. Valgus-extension osteotomy has been proven to be particu larly effective in cases with well-formed osteophytes and elliptical femoral heads. On the other hand, the indication for varus osteotomy has mostly been restricted to cases in which the femoral head is spherical. The role of CHIARI and SALTER pelvic osteotomies in those cases in which the coverage of the femoral head is insufficient is not neglected. Osteotomy is capable of complementing and accelerating the healing process, particularly in young patients in whom hip function is still well preserved and in whom there is early radiological evidence of sponta neous, osteophyte-dependent repair. Whenever feasible, pre-existing or anticipated leg length inequalities are adjusted intra-operatively, but when this is technically impossible a postoperative lift may be required.
Book Synopsis Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Joint Preservation Surgery by : Shane J. Nho
Download or read book Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Joint Preservation Surgery written by Shane J. Nho and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 1874 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of hip preservation surgery has evolved over the past decade as our understanding of hip pathomechanics and pathomorphology has expanded. The published literature on non-arthritic hip pathology, for example, has grown exponentially. The topics of controversy in the past decade have been answered in some cases, but new questions have also arisen. In addition to the 99 chapters in the original edition – most of which will be retained and updated as applicable – there will be over 30 brand new chapters focusing on new and more sophisticated techniques from authors that have been the pioneers of the field. The text is divided into nine thematic sections, covering the breadth of the topic and the current state of the art: basic science of the hip; operative basics for hip arthroscopy and open hip preservation surgery; pediatric hip conditions; approaches to disorders of the hip and pelvis; enthesopathy and neuromuscular disorders; hip fractures and instability; avascular necrosis; hip cartilage restoration; and oncologic conditions. Throughout, there is a heavy emphasis on surgical techniques, and video clips will be included in selected chapters. Written by edited by thought leaders and seasoned practitioners in the field, this new edition of Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Joint Preservation Surgery will remain the gold standard for orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists, expanding on the range of techniques available to clinicians treating injuries to and disorders of the hip.

This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many healthcare professionals, musculoskeletal diseases represent the "bread and butter" topic after graduation. Therefore, radiological education in respect of the musculoskeletal system is vital in ensuring adequate patient management and cost-effective use of healthcare financial resources. This book illustrates the clinical anatomy of the musculoskeletal system by means of images obtained using commercially available imaging equipment and the three main imaging techniques employed today – magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and ultrasound. Based on an integrated multimodality approach, each anatomical region is presented with a special focus on clinically relevant anatomical details and the characteristic findings observed in patients referred by physicians. With almost 450 images and illustrations, A Radiologically Guided Approach to Musculoskeletal Anatomy is intended as a bridge from a standard anatomical atlas to diagnostic imaging. It will assist in the everyday interpretation of imaging studies of the musculoskeletal system, providing prompt answers to frequently encountered questions. Clinical notes and self-assessment modules are also provided. All who wish to learn more about the role of diagnostic imaging of the musculoskeletal system will find this book to be of great value. Download or read book Hip Dysplasia written by Paul E. Beaulé and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the most advanced understanding of diagnosis and management of hip dysplasia in the young adult, written by the world’s leading experts and covering advanced imaging and biomechanical studies as well as latest surgical techniques. This is especially timely, as the field of hip preservation surgery is in constant evolution, and it is critical that surgeons and researchers combine their efforts to provide the best evidence-based knowledge to all health care providers evaluating and treating patients suffering from pre-arthritic hip pain. Not only does this book discuss the most up-to-date information on the etiology and natural history of hip dysplasia, as well as pathomechanics and traditional and advanced imaging, it also presents new conceptions of its classification and subsequent management. The focus throughout the book is that hip dysplasia is a problem of instability, where both the bony structure and the soft tissue envelope (i.e., capsule, ligaments and muscles) are at play. Moreover, although corrective osteotomies such as the peri-acetabular osteotomy will remain the dominant treatment option, non-surgical treatments as well as hip arthroscopy are now being increasingly recognized as useful adjuncts in order for our patients to return to their desired activities. Finally, as the longevity of joint replacement surgery has improved dramatically, this should be strongly considered in cases where the outcome of joint preserving surgery is not as predictable. Orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, physiatrists and physiotherapists alike will find this book a valuable resource when treating the young adult with symptomatic hip dysplasia.
