Download or read book Langmuir-Blodgett Films written by Michael C. Petty and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-02-23 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Langmuir-Blodgett films are the focus of intense current worldwide interest, as the ability to deposit organic films of nanometer thicknesses has many implications in materials science and in the development of new electronic and opto-electronic devices. This book provides a multidisciplinary introduction to the subject of Langmuir-Blodgett films. Beginning with the application of simple thermodynamics to the common bulk phases of matter, the book outlines the nature of the phases associated with floating monolayer films. The Langmuir-Blodgett deposition process itself is described in some detail and contrasted with other thin film techniques. The author separately discusses monolayer-forming materials and the structural, electrical and optical properties of Langmuir-Blodgett films. Each chapter is comprehensive, easy to understand and generously illustrated. Petty provides appendices for the reader wishing to delve deeper into the physics and chemistry background. Graduates and postgraduates in materials science will find this text of great interest.
Book Synopsis Langmuir-Blodgett Films, 1982 by : G.G. Roberts
Download or read book Langmuir-Blodgett Films, 1982 written by G.G. Roberts and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin Films Science and Technology, Volume 3: Langmuir–Blodgett Films, 1982 presents the developments and complementary methods for the production of ultrathin films. This book evaluates the process technology and potential of the films. Organized into two parts encompassing 48 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the idea that the Langmuir–Blodgett method of superimposing fatty acid monolayers might be suitably modified. This text then examines the behavior of anisotropic photoconductivities in Langmuir films of rhodanine containing merocyanines with three donor nuclei diluted with arachidic acid. Other chapters describe the characteristic of pure Langmuir–Blodgett films of porphyrins. This book discusses as well the preliminary resonance Raman spectroscopy experiments on Langmuir–Blodgett films made of a small number of porphyrin layers. The final chapter deals with the need to fabricate small structures in electronic devices because of the advantages of cost and speed. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monomolecular assemblies on substrates, now termed Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films, have been studied for over half a century. Their development can be viewed in three stages. Following the pioneering work of Irving Langmuir and Katharine Blodgett in the late 1930s there was a brief flurry of activity just before and just after the Second World War. Many years later Hans Kuhn published his stimulating work on energy transfer. This German contribution to the field, made in the mid-1960s, can be regarded as laying the foundation for studies of artificial systems of cooperat ing molecules on solid substrates. However, the resurgence of activity in academic and industrial laboratories, which has resulted in four large international con ferences, would not have occurred but for British and French groups highlighting the possible applications of LB films in thefield of electronics. Many academic and industrial establishments involved in high technology are now active in or maintaining a watching brief on the field. Nevertheless this impor tant area of solid state science is still perhaps largely unfamiliar to many involved in materials or electronic device research. The richness of the variety of organic molecular materials suitable for LB film deposition offers enormous scope for those interested in their basic properties or their practical applications. LB films are now an integral part of the field of molecular electronics. It seems inevitable that they will play some role in replacing inorganic materials in certain areas of application.
