This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contemporary trends in the quantum unification of all interactions including gravity motivate this Course. The main goal and impact of modern string theory is to provide a consistent quantum theory of gravity. This, Course is intended to provide an updated understanding of the last developments and current problems of string theory in connection with gravity and the physics at the Planck energy scale. It is also the aim of this Course to discuss fundamental problems of quantum gravity in the present-day context irrespective of strings or any other models. Emphasis is given to the mutual impact of string theory, gravity and cosmology, within a deep a well defined programme, which provides, in addition, a careful interdisciplinarity. Since the most relevant new physics provided by strings concerns the quantization of gravity, we must, at least, understand string quantization in curved space-times to start. Curved space-times, besides their evident relevance m classical gravitation, are also important at energies of the order of the Planck scale. At the Planck energy, gravitational interactions are at least as important as the rest and can not be neglected anymore. Special care is taken here to provide the grounds of the different lines of research in competition (not just only one approach); this provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the real state of the discipline, and to learn it in a critical way.

This book was released on 1998-05-30 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal and impact of modern string theory is to provide a consistent quantum theory of gravity. This book provides an updated collection of original new developments and fundamental research in string theory in connection with gravity and physics at the Planck energy scale.Topics treated in this volume by pioneering researchers in the field include: classical and quantum string dynamics in strong gravitational fields, space-time singularities, black holes and cosmological backgrounds; particle and string scattering at the Planck energy scale; string cosmology and its observational consequences; the new features of multistrings and of quantum particle transmutation for strings in curved spacetimes. The book deals with (i) the several new methods developed to solve the highly nonlinear string dynamics in curved spactimes: approximative perturbative methods, asymptotic expansions, exact local expansions and exact global (over the whole world sheet) string solitonic solutions, (ii) the string energy momentum tensor and the equation of state for the string matter, the stretching of the string size in spacetimes with event horizons and near spacetime singularities, (iii) the canonical and semiclassical quantization of strings in curved spacetimes and the physical effects found for: the mass spectrum, structure of levels, scattering amplitudes, number operator and particle transmutation.

Book Synopsis From The Planck Scale To The Weak Scale: Toward A Theory Of The Universe - Proceedings Of The Theoretical Advanced Study Institute In Elementary Particle Physics (In 2 Volumes) by : Howard E Haber
Download or read book From The Planck Scale To The Weak Scale: Toward A Theory Of The Universe - Proceedings Of The Theoretical Advanced Study Institute In Elementary Particle Physics (In 2 Volumes) written by Howard E Haber and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1987-10-31 with total page 981 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The attempt to understand the nature of particle physics at the weak scale is the major goal of the current generation of collider facilities. Theorists attempt to stretch their theories to the Planck scale and beyond with the very ambitious theory of superstrings. Particle physics at all energy scales has important implications for the theory of the Early Universe. Lectures on Standard Model, Grand Unification and Supersymmetry and the present status of string and superstring theory are given by both theorists and experimentalists in a complete and pedagogical manner. Finally, lectures notes on the Early Universe, galaxy formation, and high energy colliders are directed specifically at particle physicists.
Book Synopsis Cosmology and String Theory by : Horaţiu Năstase
Download or read book Cosmology and String Theory written by Horaţiu Năstase and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-04 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cosmology describes the evolution of the Universe and is based on a description of its beginning from quantum fluctuations. String theory is the only known consistent theory of quantum gravity that can deal with the highest energy scales near the Planck energy, relevant for cosmology's beginning. As a result, only string theory can give a fully consistent picture of cosmological origins. This book describes the best current avenues for obtaining cosmology from string theory. It is aimed at graduate students, and also researchers, with some familiarity with cosmology and string theory, however no detailed knowledge is required.

Download or read book Quantum Gravity written by Steff Jaywan and published by Dedona Publishing. This book was released on with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum gravity is a field of theoretical physics that aims to describe the gravitational force according to the principles of quantum mechanics. Key Concepts General relativity, developed by Albert Einstein, describes gravity as the curvature of spacetime caused by mass and energy. It works extremely well at large scales, such as in predicting planetary orbits and the behavior of black holes. On the other hand, quantum mechanics deals with the fundamental behavior of particles at the smallest scales, such as atoms and subatomic particles. It incorporates principles like wave-particle duality, quantization, and uncertainty. The Need for Quantum Gravity Despite their success, general relativity and quantum mechanics are fundamentally incompatible. General relativity treats gravity as a smooth, continuous field, while quantum mechanics relies on quantized fields and inherently probabilistic events. When attempting to describe situations where both quantum effects and strong gravitational effects are significant, such as in the vicinity of black holes or during the Big Bang, the theories conflict. Quantum gravity aims to unify these two frameworks. Approaches to Quantum Gravity Several approaches have been proposed to formulate a theory of quantum gravity. String theory proposes that fundamental particles are not point-like but instead one-dimensional "strings" that vibrate at different frequencies. This theory inherently includes gravity and attempts to unify all fundamental forces. Loop quantum gravity (LQG) focuses on quantizing spacetime itself, positing that spacetime has a discrete structure at the smallest scales and attempts to describe the quantum properties of spacetime directly, without relying on a background. Causal dynamical triangulations (CDT) is a method of simulating quantum spacetime by breaking it down into discrete, simplicial building blocks, like triangles or tetrahedra, and studying how these blocks combine to form spacetime. Asymptotic safety aims to define a quantum theory of gravity that remains consistent and finite at all energy scales by identifying a fixed point in the theory's parameter space where the theory remains predictive and well-behaved.
Book Synopsis Cosmology and Particle Physics by : V. de Sabbata
Download or read book Cosmology and Particle Physics written by V. de Sabbata and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been a steadily increasing cross-fertilization between cosmology and particle physics, on both the theoretical and experimental levels. Particle physics has provided new experimental data from the big accelerators in operation, and data from space satellites are accumulating rapidly. Cosmology is still one of the best laboratories for testing particle theory. The present work discusses such matters in the context of inflation, strings, dark matter, neutrinos and gravitational wave physics in the very early universe, field theory at the Planck scale, and high energy physics. A particular emphasis has been placed on a new topology for spatial infinity, on the relation between temperature and gravitational potential, a canonical formulation of general relativity, the neutrino mass, spin in the early universe, the measurement of gravity in the 10--100 m range, galaxy--galaxy and cluster--cluster correlation, black holes, string theory and string/string duality. The work also presents a beautiful review of high energy elementary particle physics, treating the meaning, status and perspectives of unification and standard model gauge couplings.
