Book Synopsis The Behavior of Flexible Airfield Pavements Under Loads - Theory and Experiments by : Yu Tang Chou
Download or read book The Behavior of Flexible Airfield Pavements Under Loads - Theory and Experiments written by Yu Tang Chou and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instrumentation data of the multiple-wheel heavy gear load (MWHGL) tests were reduced and analyzed. By incorporating the performance of test pavements under traffic, relations between load and pavement response were established. A method was developed to compute the measured stresses and deflections of the test pavements; based on the method, the stresses and deflections can be computed for similar types of airfield pavements under different loads. Correlations were established between computed parameters and traffic performance data from the MWHGL test section as well as from many other pavement tests conducted by the Corps of Engineers. Based on the instrumentation data, the principle of superposition was found to be valid for flexible pavements. Attempts were made to reevaluate the equivalent single-wheel loads for MWHGLs by many different methods. (Author).

Book Synopsis THEORY AND PRACTICE OF FOUNDATION DESIGN by : M. N. SOM
Download or read book THEORY AND PRACTICE OF FOUNDATION DESIGN written by M. N. SOM and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive text on foundation design is intended to introduce students of civil engineering, architecture, and environmental disciplines to the fundamentals of designing sound foundations and their implementation. It offers an in-depth coverage of pre- and post-design methodologies that include soil identification, site investigation, interpretation of soil data and design parameters, foundations on different soil types through to settlements, seismic responses, and construction concerns. Though the book is woven around principles of foundation design, it also incorporates application aspects that bridge theory and practice. As an issue of contemporary importance it discusses geotechnical details of developing earthquake resistant designs for different soil types. In addition, the authors provide an extensive account of ground improvement techniques. Supported by the abundance of real-world events/situations and examples that help students master the text concepts, this volume becomes an incisive text and reference guide.

Book Synopsis Instrumentation for Measurement of Moisture by : L. F. Ballard
Download or read book Instrumentation for Measurement of Moisture written by L. F. Ballard and published by Highway Research Board. This book was released on 1973 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to evaluate the suitability of existing instrumentation and techniques and to stimulate development of modified or new procedures to measure the amount and state of water in highway components, such as embankments, subgrades, base courses, pavements, and structures. In accomplishing this objective, the researchers conducted an extensive literature review. Those techniques that appear to be immediately applicable to highway problems were evaluated using a linear decision model for comparing instrument performance characteristics with specific moisture measurement needs. A comprehensive list of performance characteristics with which to make this comparison was compiled.
