Das fing schon im Lehrerzimmer an. Ich rauchte noch eine Zigarette, und als es läutete, blieb ich einfach noch sitzen. Jede Minute, die verstreicht, muss ich nicht im Klassenzimmer sein. Schon beim Aufstehen spürte ich wackelige Beine. Auf dem Gang dann war ich ganz alleine, niemand begegnete mir, ich fühlte mich unheimlich allein. ... Als ich vor der Tür war, hatte ich ganz starkes Herzklopfen. Ich hielt die Türklinke lange in der Hand.“1 Diese Aussage einer Lehrerin ist keine Ausnahme oder ein Einzelfall, sondern es schildert die Lage vieler Lehrer. Das so genannte „Burnout-Syndrom“ ist schon beinah zu einer Berufskrankheit geworden und stellt ein zunehmendes Problem dar. Von dieser Krankheit sind Menschen aller gesellschaftlichen Schichten, jeden Alters und Geschlechts betroffen. Darunter Leiden sowohl erfolgreiche Manager als auch Hausfrauen und Mütter. Vor allem sind aber Menschen in den so genannten helfenden Berufen davon betroffen, wie z.B. Psychologen, Ärzte, Krankenpfleger und Drogenberater, doch vor allem Lehrer. „Das Ausbrennen ist das Resultat andauernder oder wiederholter emotionaler Belastung im Zusammenhang mit langfristig intensivem Einsatz für andere Menschen...“2 Durch andauernden Stress und den Mangel an Satisfaktion bewegen sich viele Lehrer im Verlauf ihrer Karriere auf den Endpunkt Burnout zu, der nicht selten in Berufsunfähigkeit ausgeht. Viele Lehrer lassen sich verfrüht pensionieren oder aber sind öfter krankgeschrieben als im Schulgebäude anwesend. Oft führt die Überforderung zum Missbrauch von Zigaretten, Alkohol oder Schlafmitteln und belastet somit auch oft das Privatleben, das im Idealfall einen Ausgleich zum Berufsstress bieten sollte, dann jedoch zur weiteren psychischen Belastung wird, wenn z.B. eine Ehe in die Brüche geht oder es Streit und Entfremdung verursacht. Hinzu kommt, dass das Burnout-Syndrom sich auch sehr negativ auf die Gesundheit auswirkt, was wiederum eine weitere Belastung darstellt. Häufige Krankheitsbilder sind Kopf- und Rückenschmerzen, Magen-Darm-Beschwerden, Einschlafstörungen, sexuelle Unlust usw. Doch das alles muss nicht sein. Als ich diese erschütternden Tatsachen als Lehramtstudentin kennen lernte, beschloss ich mit dem Wissen über die Gefahr nach vorbeugenden Maßnahmen zu suchen, denn ich wollte mich im meinen Wunsch, Lehrerin zu werden, nicht beirren lassen und dem Burnout-Syndrom so gut wie möglich vorbeugen...

Ebenfalls wird die bedeutende Potsdamer Lehrerstudie, die die psychische Gesundheit im Lehrerberuf untersuchte, herangezogen, mithilfe derer und weiterer Studien allgemeine Befunde zur gesundheitlichen Verfassung von Lehrern beleuchtet werden. Im Anschluss an die dargelegte Realität im Lehrerberuf bezüglich des Stresserlebens und der Gesundheitszustände werden verschiedene Präventions- und Interventionsmaßnahmen im Mittelpunkt stehen. Im Zuge dieses Schwerpunktes der Arbeit werden neben der Stärkung der Ressourcen auf der individuellen Ebene, die der Stressbewältigung zugute kommen, gleichermaßen notwendige Veränderungen auf der Schul- und Schulsystemebene Beachtung finden, um Möglichkeiten zur Reduzierung von Belastungen aufzuzeigen.

Wenn man Statistiken glaub, sind die Lehrer die Berufsgruppe, die sich am häufigsten in psychologischer Behandlung befindet, um mit ihrem Alltag zurechtzukommen, weil sie sich zunehmend überfordert, ausgebrannt und unter massivem Druck fühlen. Jedoch darf man auch die Seite der Schüler nicht vernachlässigen, die auch mit massivem Leistungsdruck im Schulalltag zu kämpfen haben können. Enge Zeitpläne, Zentralabitur, verkürztes Abitur und PISA sind nur einige wenige Punkte, die auch Schüler verständlicherweise unter Stress setzen können. Doch bevor ich mit dieser Ausführung fortfahre, möchten wir ich mich erst mal mit Stress an sich beschäftigen.

Book excerpt: In recent years geometry seems to have lost large parts of its former central position in mathematics teaching in most countries. However, new trends have begun to counteract this tendency. There is an increasing awareness that geometry plays a key role in mathematics and learning mathematics. Although geometry has been eclipsed in the mathematics curriculum, research in geometry has blossomed as new ideas have arisen from inside mathematics and other disciplines, including computer science. Due to reassessment of the role of geometry, mathematics educators and mathematicians face new challenges. In the present ICMI study, the whole spectrum of teaching and learning of geometry is analysed. Experts from all over the world took part in this study, which was conducted on the basis of recent international research, case studies, and reports on actual school practice. This book will be of particular interest to mathematics educators and mathematicians who are involved in the teaching of geometry at all educational levels, as well as to researchers in mathematics education.
