This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 32 (thesis year 1987) a total of 12,483 theses titles from 22 Canadian and 176 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 32 reports theses submitted in 1987, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
Book Synopsis Stratigraphy and Sedimentology of the Lower Member of the Pilot Shale in White Pine County, Nevada by : Mark E. Jones
Download or read book Stratigraphy and Sedimentology of the Lower Member of the Pilot Shale in White Pine County, Nevada written by Mark E. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Pilot basin developed within the Late Devonian passive margin carbonate shelf in response to compressive forces during the initial phase of the Antler orogeny. A northeast to southwest trending depositional axis migrated to the southeast during the Frasnian to lower Famennian. Initially, the intrashelf basin was a deep sediment starved basin which was later filled with protoflysch. At its maximum extent, the Pilot basin covered approximately 37,000 square kilometers of the north-central Great Basin. The Pilot Shale conformably overlies the Upper Devonian Guilmette Formation and is unconformably overlain by the Mississippian Joana Limestone. The Pilot is composed of three members in western Utah: 1) lower member; 2) Leatham Member; and 3) upper member. Middle Famennian regression caused extensive regional erosion which removed the Leatham and upper members from the study area. The lower member consists of calcareous quartz sandstones, siltstones and shales; carbonate lithofacies include limestone breccia/conglomerates, calcarenites and calcilutites. Calcareous shales and calcilutites are of hemipelagic origin and the limestone breccia/conglomerates, calcareous quartz sandstones and siltstones are interpreted as slope derived debris and turbidity flows. A study of turbidite structures and related paleocurrent indicators within calcareous siltstone and calcarenite lithofacies suggest a southeast direction of transport, parallel to the basin's eastern margin. The paleocurrent data suggest deflection of the turbidites by the basin axis. Sedimentary structures and facies distribution suggest a source area located to the northeast of the Pilot basin. Potential source areas include the eastern carbonate shelf margin for the carbonate clasts and the epierogenic uplifts on the craton for quartzitic sands and silts. The over-all depositional system represented by the lower member of the Pilot Shale is a carbonate apron system with proximal inner apron environment present at Indian Creek and distal basinal plain environment at Franks Well. Evidence for this interpretation include: 1) lithofacies relationships with a transition from carbonate dominated sections in the east to clastic dominated sections in the west; 2) presence of randomly distributed carbonate debris sheets at Indian Creek; 3) an east to west, proximal to distal variation in clastic grain size and carbonate content; 4) variation in sedimentary structures developed within turbidites of proximal inner apron and distal basinal plain environments"--Document.

Book Synopsis Stratigraphy and Depositional Environments of the Upper Devonian Fenstermaker Limestone, Eureka County, Nevada by : Jeff L. Waldman

This book was released on 1990 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Upper Devonian Fenstermaker Limestone is a thickening-upward sequence of interbedded sandy intrapelsparite and subordinate calcareous siltstone and mudstone which averages 190 ft (58 m) thick in the northern Antelope Range. The Fenstermaker Limestone is revised and restricted herein to include only those rocks above a basinal shale sequence of the upper Denay Limestone and below the Mississippian Davis Spring Formation, and replaces the names "Devonian sandstone" of Trojan (1978) and the "Fenstermaker Wash Formation" of Hose and others (1982). Sandy limestone of the Fenstermaker Limestone was deposited rapidly, above upper Denay basinal shales, as resedimented beds in Frasnian Montagne Noir conodont zone 13 and the Lower Famennian Middle triangularis Zone. Reworked conodonts are present at numerous stratigraphic levels in the Fenstermaker, indicating erosion on the inner or middle carbonate platform during two Upper Devonian eustatic regressions (in lower and upper T-R cycle Ild; western U.S. events 7 and 8). Deposition of the Fenstermaker Limestone was by allodapic sediment gravity flows on an outer-shelf-basin ramp or at the toe of a low-angle (
