Information Communication Technology has been convinced to effectively improve the implementation of sustainable and smart waste management in developed countries. This research presents a model of the circular economy toward sustainable and smart waste management system for Indonesian municipal waste. The model integrates waste management technology and the Internet of Things into a smart, sustainable and adaptive waste management mechanism and data integration, which has a target to improve municipal solid waste and to increase resource efficiency through data integration. The research scope covers waste management supply chain starting from the collection, separation, production, and treatment processes of organic and non-organic waste. In-depth literature review, direct observation through a questionnaire, focus group discussion and expert sharing, a comparative study on Australia best practices, comprehensive analysis on the research results and proposed model are presented based on a one-year research project in 2018. The future model implementation is expected to contribute to Government strategy, regulation and policy on better waste management at the national level.
