Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1986, is concerned with the changing world environment for multinational business and the relationships between multinational parent companies and their subsidiaries which will be necessary to meet the challenges that are being faced. The study argues that key changes to the environment are: the revolution in manufacturing which has permitted cheap production in one location of complicated products for a world market; ‘world product mandating’, whereby all a company’s country subsidiaries produce different product lines for the world market; pressure and incentives from host governments for technology transfer in their favour and for research and development facilities within their territory; the growth of highly efficient international trading and distribution intermediaries; and the complications of increased ‘barter’ trade arising from international debt problems and currency shortages. All this means that the management of multinational subsidiaries has to change. This book reviews the challenges and shows a way forward.

Book Synopsis Strategic Planning and Multinational Trading Blocs by : Nejdet Delener
Download or read book Strategic Planning and Multinational Trading Blocs written by Nejdet Delener and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1999-09-30 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-border investments and cooperative business ventures are driving the global economy on an unprecedented scale. Business professionals and policy makers must be aware of the potential of trading blocs as a competitive weapon given the rising importance of multinational trade. The coming years promise to be the era of the Trade Pact Wars as Canada's recently announced trade talks with Chile, Germany's push for closer trans-Atlantic ties with the United States, and ASEAN efforts to promote intraregional trade all test the fledgling World Trade Organization in its role as the watchdog of global trade. Delener examines the rationale for international trading blocs and free trade with a focus on the implications for strategic planning of firms and national industry sectors. He looks at the development and conditions of the major existing regional trading blocs and discusses issues that will impact those who do business within them. NAFTA, the European Union, South American trading blocs, and efforts in Asia and Africa are all examined in detail. Strategic planning, anti-dumping issues, and global standards are also considered. The book provides professionals, researchers, and students with a firm grasp of the issues of central importance to strategic planning in global corporations and multinational trading blocs. Those who fail to grasp the significance of multinational trading blocs will face tough times while those who plan for it will see their nations and businesses thrive and prosper.

Download or read book Instead of FIRA written by Samuel Wex and published by IRPP. This book was released on 1984 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the back cover: A president of a foreign-controlled subidiary recently commented: "As the Canadian subsidiary of a multi-national, we do not necessarily always operate to do the best we can for our local books. We are attempting to optimize the parent company's books.". How can this perspective be changed so that the Canadian subidiary can gain a heightened sense of its independence as a profit centre, without a change occurring in ownership or formal control relationships? Canadian public policy, contends Samuel Wex, should seek to encourage maximization of the subsidiary's profits by focusing on its productivity and its international competitiveness. Its performance should stamp it as a good corporate citizen. In order to bring about this change of perspective, different approaches will be needed to create autonomous subsidiaries that are entrepreneurial and outward looking. These approaches, if adopted, could lead to an open-dorr policy to new foreign investment that would be entrepreneurial and innovative.

Book Synopsis Tax Compliance Costs for Companies in an Enlarged European Community by : Michael Lang
Download or read book Tax Compliance Costs for Companies in an Enlarged European Community written by Michael Lang and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When it comes to taxation, administrative costs to the tax authorities and compliance costs to the taxpayers arise. A lot of studies have already been conducted in order to shed more light on such “hidden costs” of taxation. Particularly in the field of transfer pricing, administrative and compliance costs are assumed to be quite high due to the obligation of computing and documenting an arm’s length price for each intra-group-transaction. Apparently, European policy makers have also become aware of this problem since the European Commission’s report released in 2001 (“Company Taxation in the Internal Market”) recommends targeted measures in the short run and comprehensive ones in the long run, crossing the border line of the currently prevailing transfer pricing approach, inter alia in order to combat compliance costs in the field of transfer pricing. Eighteen national reports from countries all over the world and a general report deal with the basics of administrative and compliance costs of taxation in general as well as compliance costs in the field of transfer pricing in particular. The book is completed by three special reports on certain issues. The findings of the reports included is greatly influenced by the discussions on the occasion of the Jean Monnet Conference on this topic which was held in spring 2006 in Rust (Austria) under the academic guidance of the Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration." -- Back cover.
