Download or read book After Khomeini written by Anoushiravan Ehteshami and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-03-11 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Iran the years since Ayatollah Khomeini's death have been dominated by the need for political consolidation and economic reconstruction. The book assesses the critical dilemmas of the regime both previous to and since the demise of its first spiritual leader. The vital issues of political succession and constitutional reform are addressed, contributing to an analysis of the structures and politics of power. How these have reflected upon economic policy is considered with close atttention being given to the reform policies of Rafsanjani. Foreign policy and security issues are discussed in both regional and global terms and include a study of Iranian defence strategy and its controversial re-armament drive. The final chapter examines the direction and context of all of these major policy areas, providing an analysis of whether the Islamic Republic truly represents a revolutionary alternative for the Third World or whether in fact it has developed in time to fall within a similar mould to other notable revolutions, casting by the wayside any uniquely Islamic agenda and alternatives. At the heart of this study is the belief that the Islamic regime has, since the cease-fire with Iraq, but more specifically since Ayatollah Khomeini's death passed into a new stage of development, referred to in the book as the `Second Republic'.

Book excerpt: The "globalization" of economic activities has given rise to an interest in the relations between such tendencies, the nature of societies, and the nature of various actors within and cross-cutting societies. This book serves to systematize the approach, and react to newly arising issues. It brings together proponents, sympathizers and critics of societal analysis, and seeks to enter new fields. The message stressed and demonstrated by the editors and authors, is that the "societal space" of social, economic and political interdependencies is not being obliterated but complexified, and therefore a topical and explanatory framework.

Download or read book The Theory of the Firm and Chinese Enterprise Reform written by Xiao Qin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-22 with total page 232 pages. In this penetrating and insightful book, Xiao questions the conventional theory of the firm, arguing that the ultimate goal of the headquarters of modern large corporations is to function as a substitute for the market, and introducing a new explanation for the nature of the firm - the 'substitution function model'. He provides an insider's account of the reforms in CITIC, a rare narrative that should be essential reading for scholars and practitioners who care about the theory and practice of the firm, in particular in the context of Chinese enterprise reform.

Book Synopsis Kim Jong-un's Strategy for Survival by : David W. Shin
Download or read book Kim Jong-un's Strategy for Survival written by David W. Shin and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-11-09 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Kim Jong-un’s Strategy for Survival, David W. Shin contends that Kim Jong-un's consolidation of power at home and the leveraging of Beijing, Moscow, Seoul, and Washington, and others abroad show that he is not a madman and, like the two earlier Kims, has consistently been underestimated. Shin presents an alternative framework for Kim Jong-un’s behavior through his analysis of Kim's background and his development as the successor to his father, Kim Jong-il; the evolution of the totalitarian system Kim inherited from his grandfather, Kim Il-sung; and the security environment after Kim Jong-il’s death in 2011. This book is recommended for scholars and students of political science, Asian studies, international relations, and history.
