Book Synopsis The Concept of Strategic Fit by : Moritz Garlichs
Download or read book The Concept of Strategic Fit written by Moritz Garlichs and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2011-01-11 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: 1.1, Research problem and objectives: Matching an organization s strategy and structure to explain firm performance is one of the fundamental insights in strategic management literature . Successful organizations achieve strategic fit and support their strategy with appropriate structures and processes, while less successful firms typically exhibit poorer fit . Hence, firms will strive for the ideal fit to reach highest performance and outperform those that do not. This strategic fit has been the focus of many studies and provided the basis for theory construction in numerous areas of research . In every case, the underlying theoretical idea is that a fit (also referred to as match, (co-)alignment, congruence, or consistency) between or among different contingencies has a significant positive impact on firm performance . However, especially in the past decade, firms have to cope with globalization, rapid technological change and the shortening of product life cycles, requiring them to be able to act flexibly and rapidly . Thus the question appears whether the concept of strategic fit, demanding companies to stick to a certain strategy and its respective structure , still works and enhances a firm s performance. Therefore the objective of this thesis is to analyze the concept of strategic fit and to examine the different research streams. To do so, a comprehensive analysis of the literature is conducted to identify and structure existing relevant research on this topic. Moreover, a thorough overview of the current status of research is delivered and a summary and outlook of the impact of strategic fit on a firm s performance are presented. 1.2, Course of investigation: The thesis has two main chapters. Following the introduction, the second chapter discusses the concept of strategic fit in detail. Therefore, an introduction to contingency theory is provided to better understand the term strategic fit . After this, a research overview is provided that explains the development of the concept with the help of the central studies in this field. The second chapter concludes with a recapitulating evaluation. Chapter three examines the identified empirical research. Therefore, first the used categorization scheme is explained. Second, the studies are classified and the main results presented. The chapter concludes with a recapitulating evaluation that discusses the aggregated results of the classification. Chapter four [...]

Book Synopsis Clusters as an instrument to bridge institutional voids in transition economies by : Tine Schrammel
Download or read book Clusters as an instrument to bridge institutional voids in transition economies written by Tine Schrammel and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transition economies, such as the countries in Southeast Europe, face an expeditious institutional transition from a centrally planned to a market economy. The state withdraws from its monitoring function, which results in institutional voids that affect the economy in general and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in specific. With a qualitative case study approach Tine Schrammel develops a scheme to detect institutional voids as one source of competitive disadvantages of SMEs in transition economies. In a second step she demonstrates that specific cluster services bridge institutional voids and improve the competitive position of SMEs in environments of institutional voids. The findings add to the understanding of institutional voids and to the role of clusters in transition economies.

To cope with these challenges, they need to leverage their current competencies and exploit existing products and services, while simultaneously build new capabilities to develop innovative solutions. Therefore, instead of selecting and maintaining a focus on either efficiency or flexibility, these firms balance resource allocation and become so-called ambidextrous organizations. W. Henning Blarr analyzes this balancing act, requiring the ability to simultaneously pursue both incremental and discontinuous change. He shows that compared to organizations focusing on either exploitative or explorative activities, ambidextrous organizations significantly obtain higher levels of financial performance.

Book Synopsis Handbook of the Economics and Political Economy of Transition by : Paul Hare
Download or read book Handbook of the Economics and Political Economy of Transition written by Paul Hare and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transition from central planning to a market economy, involving large-scale institutional change and reforms at all levels, is often described as the greatest social science experiment in modern times. As more than two decades have passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, it is now an excellent time to take stock of how the transition process has turned out for the economies that have moved on from socialism and the command economy. This new handbook assembles a team of leading experts, many of whom were closely involved in the transition process as policymakers and policy advisors, to explore the major themes that have characterized the transition process. After identifying the nature of initial conditions and the strengths and weaknesses of institutions, the varying paths and reforms countries have taken are fully analyzed – from the shock therapy, privatization or gradualism of the early years to the burning issues of the present including global integration and sustainable growth. Topics covered include the socialist system pre-transition, economic reforms, institutions, the political economy of transition, performance and growth, enterprise restructuring, and people and transition. The country coverage is also extensive, from the former socialist countries of the USSR and the satellite states of Central and Eastern Europe to the Asian countries of China, Vietnam and others. The rise of China as a key actor in the drama is chronicled, along with the emergence of a new, more confident, oil-rich Russia. The comparative prosperity of the Central European countries such as Poland and the Czech Republic is contrasted with the mixed fortunes of the former USSR, where some countries are stagnating while others boom. This Handbook of the Economics and Political Economy of Transition is the definitive guide to this new order of things in the former Communist world.

Book Synopsis International HRM and Development in Emerging Market Multinationals by : Paresha Sinha
Download or read book International HRM and Development in Emerging Market Multinationals written by Paresha Sinha and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-21 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emerging multinational enterprises (or EMNEs) have made a huge impact on the international business stage by internationalising at a rapid rate. And they have performed remarkably well in both developing and developed countries. Accordingly, there is a growing strand of literature on how EMNEs manage their international human resource (IHRM) practices in different international contexts. However, the majority of the literature on IHRM practices of EMNEs is limited to explaining what international management practices EMNEs implement in their foreign subsidiaries and how they implement them. Too often, EMNEs struggle to transfer their weak management practices across national borders as they have limited experience, resources and capabilities when compared to MNEs from developed countries. Developing a better understanding on the manner in which EMNEs adopt their international human resource management and development practices abroad is, therefore, paramount to fully understand their globalisation-related behaviours. This dedicated book will aim to provide a holistic picture and contemporary insights on IHRM in emerging multinational enterprises. It will be of interest to researchers, academics and students in the fields of business and management, especially those with a particular interest in human resource management, firm internationalisation and emerging markets.
