Book Synopsis Asymptotic Behaviour of Linearly Transformed Sums of Random Variables by : V.V. Buldygin

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limit theorems for random sequences may conventionally be divided into two large parts, one of them dealing with convergence of distributions (weak limit theorems) and the other, with almost sure convergence, that is to say, with asymptotic prop erties of almost all sample paths of the sequences involved (strong limit theorems). Although either of these directions is closely related to another one, each of them has its own range of specific problems, as well as the own methodology for solving the underlying problems. This book is devoted to the second of the above mentioned lines, which means that we study asymptotic behaviour of almost all sample paths of linearly transformed sums of independent random variables, vectors, and elements taking values in topological vector spaces. In the classical works of P.Levy, A.Ya.Khintchine, A.N.Kolmogorov, P.Hartman, A.Wintner, W.Feller, Yu.V.Prokhorov, and M.Loeve, the theory of almost sure asymptotic behaviour of increasing scalar-normed sums of independent random vari ables was constructed. This theory not only provides conditions of the almost sure convergence of series of independent random variables, but also studies different ver sions of the strong law of large numbers and the law of the iterated logarithm. One should point out that, even in this traditional framework, there are still problems which remain open, while many definitive results have been obtained quite recently.

Book Synopsis Time Series, Fuzzy Analysis and Miscellaneous Topics by : Madan Lal Puri
Download or read book Time Series, Fuzzy Analysis and Miscellaneous Topics written by Madan Lal Puri and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-08-02 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Puri is one of the most versatile and prolific researchers in the world in mathematical statistics. His research areas include nonparametric statistics, order statistics, limit theory under mixing, time series, splines, tests of normality, generalized inverses of matrices and related topics, stochastic processes, statistics of directional data, random sets, and fuzzy sets and fuzzy measures. His fundamental contributions in developing new rank-based methods and precise evaluation of the standard procedures, asymptotic expansions of distributions of rank statistics, as well as large deviation results concerning them, span such areas as analysis of variance, analysis of covariance, multivariate analysis, and time series, to mention a few. His in-depth analysis has resulted in pioneering research contributions to prominent journals that have substantial impact on current research. This book together with the other two volumes (Volume 1: Nonparametric Methods in Statistics and Related Topics; Volume 2: Probability Theory and Extreme Value Theory), are a concerted effort to make his research works easily available to the research community. The sheer volume of the research output by him and his collaborators, coupled with the broad spectrum of the subject matters investigated, and the great number of outlets where the papers were published, attach special significance in making these works easily accessible. The papers selected for inclusion in this work have been classified into three volumes each consisting of several parts. All three volumes carry a final part consisting of the contents of the other two, as well as the complete list of Professor Puri's publications.

Puri, the authors of this Festschrift pay their tribute to his scientific achievements in statistics. This volume reflects a selective survey of leading contemprary scientific trends and developments that are significantly related to ideas expressed and pursued in Madan L. Puri's work in statistics and related fields. The wide spectrum of scientific interest which characterizes Professor Puri's scientific activity is thus illuminated. The choice of papers offered combines fundamental principles with interesting applications, selected for their originality and insight, and for their influence on the modern approach to statistics, probability and related fields.
Book Synopsis Geometry and Martingales in Banach Spaces by : Wojbor A. Woyczynski
Download or read book Geometry and Martingales in Banach Spaces written by Wojbor A. Woyczynski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-12 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometry and Martingales in Banach Spaces provides a compact exposition of the results explaining the interrelations existing between the metric geometry of Banach spaces and the theory of martingales, and general random vectors with values in those Banach spaces. Geometric concepts such as dentability, uniform smoothness, uniform convexity, Beck convexity, etc. turn out to characterize asymptotic behavior of martingales with values in Banach spaces.

This part also deals with the continuation and arithmetic of distribution functions, the arc sine law, Fourier transform methods, and nondifferentiality of the Wiener sheet. Part II includes papers in information and statistical theories. This book will prove useful to statisticians, mathematicians, and advance mathematics students.
Book Synopsis Short-Memory Linear Processes and Econometric Applications by : Kairat T. Mynbaev
Download or read book Short-Memory Linear Processes and Econometric Applications written by Kairat T. Mynbaev and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-05-23 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a comprehensive source of asymptotic results for econometric models with deterministic exogenous regressors. Such regressors include linear (more generally, piece-wise polynomial) trends, seasonally oscillating functions, and slowly varying functions including logarithmic trends, as well as some specifications of spatial matrices in the theory of spatial models. The book begins with central limit theorems (CLTs) for weighted sums of short memory linear processes. This part contains the analysis of certain operators in Lp spaces and their employment in the derivation of CLTs. The applications of CLTs are to the asymptotic distribution of various estimators for several econometric models. Among the models discussed are static linear models with slowly varying regressors, spatial models, time series autoregressions, and two nonlinear models (binary logit model and nonlinear model whose linearization contains slowly varying regressors). The estimation procedures include ordinary and nonlinear least squares, maximum likelihood, and method of moments. Additional topical coverage includes an introduction to operators, probabilities, and linear models; Lp-approximable sequences of vectors; convergence of linear and quadratic forms; regressions with slowly varying regressors; spatial models; convergence; nonlinear models; and tools for vector autoregressions.

Book Synopsis Stationary Random Processes Associated with Point Processes by : Tomasz Rolski
Download or read book Stationary Random Processes Associated with Point Processes written by Tomasz Rolski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this set of notes we study a notion of a random process assoc- ted with a point process. The presented theory was inSpired by q- ueing problems. However it seems to be of interest in other branches of applied probability, as for example reliability or dam theory. Using developed tools, we work out known, aswell as new results from queueing or dam theory. Particularly queues which cannot be treated by standard techniques serve as illustrations of the theory. In Chapter 1 the preliminaries are given. We acquaint the reader with the main ideas of these notes, introduce some useful notations, concepts and abbreviations. He also recall basic facts from ergodic theory, an important mathematical tool employed in these notes. Finally some basic notions from queues are reviewed. Chapter 2 deals with discrete time theory. It serves two purposes. The first one is to let the reader get acquainted with the main lines of the theory needed in continuous time without being bothered by tech nical details. However the discrete time theory also seems to be of interest itself. There are examples which have no counte~ in continuous time. Chapter 3 deals with continuous time theory. It also contains many basic results from queueing or dam theory. Three applications of the continuous time theory are given in Chapter 4. We show how to use the theory in order to get some useful bounds for the stationary distribution of a random process.
