Download or read book StepWise written by Jim Dale and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any parent who has helped to raise stepchildren knows that it may very well be the single greatest challenge of getting remarried. It's hard to know exactly how to handle the uncomfortable, unpredictable, and sometimes seemingly unmanageable situations that accompany the inauspicious title of stepparent. Finally, an easygoing handbook for in-the-dark stepparents is here in StepWiseo?=the no-nonsense, no-psychobabble, down-to-earth, practical, and funny guide to dealing with stepchildren in a friendly, sensible, sometimes funny way. Coauthors James Dale and his stepdaughter, Alex Schapiro, offer their insights in a unique, bite-sized format. One of the most important lessons of their experience is that you'll need your sense of humor, so they tackle this serious subject with levity. They realize raising stepchildren isn't world peace. It just sometimes seems as hard to achieve.----------------
Book Synopsis Stepwise Refinement of Distributed Systems by : Jaco W. de Bakker
Download or read book Stepwise Refinement of Distributed Systems written by Jaco W. de Bakker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-04-25 with total page 832 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stepwise refinement method postulates a system construction route that starts with a high-level specification, goes through a number of provably correct development steps, and ends with an executable program. The contributions to this volume survey the state of the art in this extremely active research area. The world's leading specialists in concurrent program specification, verification, and the theory of their refinement present latest research results and surveys of the fields. State-based, algebraic, temporal logic oriented and category theory oriented approaches are presented. Special attention is paid to the relationship between compositionality and refinement for distributed programs. Surveys are given of results on refinement in partial-order based approaches to concurrency. A unified treatment is given of the assumption/commitment paradigm in compositional concurrent program specification and verification, and the extension of these to liveness properties. Latest results are presented on specifying and proving concurrent data bases correct, and deriving network protocols from their specifications.

Book Synopsis Qualitative Research as Stepwise-Deductive Induction by : Aksel Tjora
Download or read book Qualitative Research as Stepwise-Deductive Induction written by Aksel Tjora and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides thorough guidance on various forms of data generation and analysis, presenting a model for the research process in which detailed data analysis and generalization through the development of concepts are central. Based on an inductive principle, which begins with raw data and moves towards concepts or theories through incremental deductive feedback loops, the ‘stepwise-deductive induction’ approach advanced by the author focuses on the analysis phase in research. Concentrating on creativity, structuring of analytical work, and collaborative development of generic knowledge, it seeks to enable researchers to extend their insight of a subject area without having personally to study all the data generated throughout a project. A constructive alternative to Grounded Theory, the approach advanced here is centred on qualitative research that aims at developing concepts, models, or theories on basis of a gradual paradigm to reduce complexity. As such, it will appeal to scholars and students across the social sciences with interests in methods and the analysis of qualitative data of various kinds.
Book Synopsis Kinetically Controlled Stepwise Syntheses of a Heterometallic Complex and a Tetrahedral Chiral-at-Metal Complex by : Kenichi Endo
Download or read book Kinetically Controlled Stepwise Syntheses of a Heterometallic Complex and a Tetrahedral Chiral-at-Metal Complex written by Kenichi Endo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes novel synthetic methodologies for two kinds of structurally elaborate metal complexes: a heterometallic complex and a tetrahedral chiral-at-metal complex. The book provides the tools and inspiration to chemists for development of metal complexes with wide structural diversity than had previously been possible. For each of the two topics, existing synthetic methods for similar compounds are discussed first, and then new strategies are presented, followed by the demonstration of the synthesis of novel compounds supported by experimental results. Both of the final products in this research, a Co–Ni heterometallic complex covered in the first topic and a tetrahedral chiral-at-metal complex in the second one are difficult to obtain by using common synthetic methods for thermodynamic reasons. This research achieved highly selective syntheses of these compounds using newly designed strategies that enable precise kinetic control. Such an approach will be useful for synthesizing other new metal complexes. Since the last century, organic chemistry has flourished with the development of a variety of synthetic techniques that make precise kinetic control possible. Coordination chemistry of 3d or main-group transition metals has been mainly based on simple one-step reactions that yield only thermodynamic products. The publication of this book helps pave the way to kinetically controlled precise syntheses of various metal complexes.
Book Synopsis Stepwise Culture of Human Adult Stem Cells by : Pranela Rameshwar
Download or read book Stepwise Culture of Human Adult Stem Cells written by Pranela Rameshwar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-03-12 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume on stepwise techniques to culture adult human stem cells begins with the basic methods to culture adult stem cells followed by related methods to supplement stem cell culture. This and future volumes of techniques will allow laboratories across scientific entities – academic and commercial – to adapt the described methods for similar methods with cells from other species. The standardized techniques will allow across the board interpretation of other technologies such as Omics studies. These methods can be a starting platform for culturing stem cells even in laboratories that might not be familiar with the techniques. Scientific and early clinical trials strongly favor the development of translational studies with adult stem cells. A major impediment to progress in the field of regenerative medicine is a lack of standardized methods to culture specific stem cells. Such documented methods would allow for scientific rigor and reproducibility to enhance efficient and safe translation of stem cells to patients. This book fills that gap.
Book Synopsis Science and Technology Education Promoting Wellbeing for Individuals, Societies and Environments by : Larry Bencze
Download or read book Science and Technology Education Promoting Wellbeing for Individuals, Societies and Environments written by Larry Bencze and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume provides theoretical and practical resources relating to the ‘STEPWISE’ curricular and instructional framework. ‘STEPWISE’ is the acronym for Science & Technology Education Promoting Wellbeing for Individuals, Societies & Environments. It is a framework for organizing teaching and learning domains in ways that prioritize personal and social actions to address ‘critical socioscientific issues’ — that is, controversial decisions by powerful individuals/groups about science and technology (and related fields) that may adversely affect individuals, societies and/or environments. The book contains chapters written by and/or with teachers who have used STEPWISE to guide their instructional practices, as well as chapters written by education scholars who have used a range of theoretical lenses to analyze and evaluate STEPWISE — and, in several cases, described ways in which it relates to (or could relate to) their practices and/or ways in which the framework might logically be amended. Overall, this book offers educators, policy makers and others with resources useful for arranging science and technology education in ways that may assist societies in addressing significant potential personal, social and/or environmental problems — such as dramatic climate change, preventable human diseases, species losses, and social injustices — associated with fields of science and technology.
Book Synopsis Analysis of Variance, Design, and Regression by : Ronald Christensen
Download or read book Analysis of Variance, Design, and Regression written by Ronald Christensen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-06-01 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents a comprehensive treatment of basic statistical methods and their applications. It focuses on the analysis of variance and regression, but also addressing basic ideas in experimental design and count data. The book has four connecting themes: similarity of inferential procedures, balanced one-way analysis of variance, comparison of models, and checking assumptions. Most inferential procedures are based on identifying a scalar parameter of interest, estimating that parameter, obtaining the standard error of the estimate, and identifying the appropriate reference distribution. Given these items, the inferential procedures are identical for various parameters. Balanced one-way analysis of variance has a simple, intuitive interpretation in terms of comparing the sample variance of the group means with the mean of the sample variance for each group. All balanced analysis of variance problems are considered in terms of computing sample variances for various group means. Comparing different models provides a structure for examining both balanced and unbalanced analysis of variance problems and regression problems. Checking assumptions is presented as a crucial part of every statistical analysis. Examples using real data from a wide variety of fields are used to motivate theory. Christensen consistently examines residual plots and presents alternative analyses using different transformation and case deletions. Detailed examination of interactions, three factor analysis of variance, and a split-plot design with four factors are included. The numerous exercises emphasize analysis of real data. Senior undergraduate and graduate students in statistics and graduate students in other disciplines using analysis of variance, design of experiments, or regression analysis will find this book useful.
Download or read book Sweden written by M. B. Stephens and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The solid rock mass of Sweden forms a natural field laboratory revealing insight into the westward growth and reworking of one of the planet’s ancient continental nuclei. Three major geological units are exposed in different parts of the country: the western part of the Fennoscandian Shield, mainly sedimentary rocks deposited on this crystalline rock mass and the Caledonide orogen. This volume synthesizes the tectonic evolution of Sweden over more than 2500 million years from the Neoarchean to the Neogene. Following an introduction describing the lithotectonic framework of the country and the organization of the volume, the tectonic evolution is addressed essentially chronologically. Different phases of intracratonic rifting, accretionary orogeny, continent-continent collisional orogeny and platformal sedimentation are identified. Sweden is one of Europe’s major suppliers of metals, and the country’s mineral resources are also presented in the context of the lithotectonic framework. Sweden: Lithotectonic Framework, Tectonic Evolution and Mineral Resources has been designed to interest a professional geoscientific audience and advanced students of Earth Sciences.

Book Synopsis Flexible Imputation of Missing Data, Second Edition by : Stef van Buuren
Download or read book Flexible Imputation of Missing Data, Second Edition written by Stef van Buuren and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Missing data pose challenges to real-life data analysis. Simple ad-hoc fixes, like deletion or mean imputation, only work under highly restrictive conditions, which are often not met in practice. Multiple imputation replaces each missing value by multiple plausible values. The variability between these replacements reflects our ignorance of the true (but missing) value. Each of the completed data set is then analyzed by standard methods, and the results are pooled to obtain unbiased estimates with correct confidence intervals. Multiple imputation is a general approach that also inspires novel solutions to old problems by reformulating the task at hand as a missing-data problem. This is the second edition of a popular book on multiple imputation, focused on explaining the application of methods through detailed worked examples using the MICE package as developed by the author. This new edition incorporates the recent developments in this fast-moving field. This class-tested book avoids mathematical and technical details as much as possible: formulas are accompanied by verbal statements that explain the formula in accessible terms. The book sharpens the reader’s intuition on how to think about missing data, and provides all the tools needed to execute a well-grounded quantitative analysis in the presence of missing data.
