Book Synopsis Handbook of Developmental Psychiatry by : Hans Steiner

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mental disorders in children and adolescents have gained prominence in recent years, and clinicians in the field are increasingly on the lookout for new methods in diagnosis and treatment. In the last 25 years, the Stanford Division of Child Psychiatry has become one of the premier clinical, research, and educational facilities in child and adolescent psychiatry, both nationally and internationally. Its faculty has distinguished itself in several key domains of psychopathology in both basic and clinical research. This handbook provides a detailed description of unique diagnostic and treatment approaches to mental disorders in the Stanford Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Most of the principal authors of this volume are members of or previously affiliated with the Stanford faculty. Readers will thus be privy to Stanford's highly distinct approach, characterized by principles of developmental approaches to psychopathology and an emphasis on integrated treatment packages. Moreover, clinicians will appreciate how the faculty's novel approach to diagnosis and treatment is strongly influenced by pediatric and developmental thinking. Empirical support and practice based rationale for the current diagnostic and treatment algorithms and methodologies in Stanford clinics will be presented in a highly lucid manner. Written with frontline mental health clinicians in mind, this handbook will prove an invaluable asset to those who wish to implement Stanford's approach to mental disorders in children and adolescents, or simply broaden their horizons on the cutting-edge methods in the field.

Book Synopsis Handbook on Moving Corrections and Sentencing Forward by : Pamela K. Lattimore
Download or read book Handbook on Moving Corrections and Sentencing Forward written by Pamela K. Lattimore and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses major issues and research in corrections and sentencing with the goal of using previous research and findings as a platform for recommendations about future research, evaluation, and policy. The last several decades witnessed major policy changes in sentencing and corrections in the United States, as well as considerable research to identify the most effective strategies for addressing criminal behavior. These efforts included changes in sentencing that eliminated parole and imposed draconian sentences for violent and drug crimes. The federal government, followed by most states, implemented sentencing guidelines that greatly reduced the discretion of the courts to impose sentences. The results were a multifold increase in the numbers of individuals in jails and prisons and on community supervision—increases that have only recently crested. There were also efforts to engage prosecutors and the courts in diversion and oversight, including the development of prosecutorial diversion programs, as well as a variety of specialty courts. Penal reform has included efforts to understand the transitions from prison to the community, including federal-led efforts focused on reentry programming. Community corrections reforms have ranged from increased surveillance through drug testing, electronic monitoring, and in some cases, judicial oversight, to rehabilitative efforts driven by risk and needs assessment. More recently, the focus has included pretrial reform to reduce the number of people held in jail pending trial, efforts that have brought attention to the use of bail and its disproportionate impact on people of color and the poor. This collection of chapters from leading researchers addresses a wide array of the latest research in the field. A unique approach featuring responses to the original essays by active researchers spurs discussion and provides a foundation for developing directions for future research and policymaking.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Research on Waldorf Education by : Jost Schieren
Download or read book Handbook of Research on Waldorf Education written by Jost Schieren and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-07 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waldorf Education: An all-round, balanced approach to education that is equally concerned with intellectual-cognitive and artistic-creative learning. A practice- and experience-based pedagogy. Non-selective and open to all children and young people; offering a stress-free, secure learning environment across 12 grades; embedded in a community of students, teachers, and parents. An alternative education that has been successfully practiced for over a century. The first Waldorf School was founded in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1919. Today, Waldorf Education is practiced in all countries and cultures around the world: in over 1,000 schools, more than 2,000 kindergartens, and numerous centers for special needs education. This makes Waldorf Education the most prevalent alternative approach to teaching. And yet, despite the success and (now empirically validated) recognition that Waldorf schools enjoy, the theory underlying them remains controversial. Within the academic debate, Waldorf Education is seen as ideologic and unscientific. This publication sets out to bring clarity to this debate: Renowned researchers explain and discuss Waldorf Education’s foundations in relation to the current discourse on education and core disciplines such as theory of knowledge, anthropology, developmental psychology, learning theory, and the theory of professions. This scientific inquiry into Waldorf Education is breaking new ground, casting light on its fascinating humanistic ideal and holistic potential.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry by : Csaba D. Toth
Download or read book Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry written by Csaba D. Toth and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 2354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry is intended as a reference book fully accessible to nonspecialists as well as specialists, covering all major aspects of both fields. The book offers the most important results and methods in discrete and computational geometry to those who use them in their work, both in the academic world—as researchers in mathematics and computer science—and in the professional world—as practitioners in fields as diverse as operations research, molecular biology, and robotics. Discrete geometry has contributed significantly to the growth of discrete mathematics in recent years. This has been fueled partly by the advent of powerful computers and by the recent explosion of activity in the relatively young field of computational geometry. This synthesis between discrete and computational geometry lies at the heart of this Handbook. A growing list of application fields includes combinatorial optimization, computer-aided design, computer graphics, crystallography, data analysis, error-correcting codes, geographic information systems, motion planning, operations research, pattern recognition, robotics, solid modeling, and tomography.
