Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton says climate change is one of the “most urgent threats of our time,” and has compared her plan to install five hundred million solar panels on homes and for every home in America being powered by clean energy by 2027 to President John F. Kennedy’s goal to land Americans on the moon and return them safely to earth. That’s an affront to America’s greatest scientific achievement and to those who made landing Americans on the moon possible. Her plan would do nothing to reduce the threat of global warming. So says Duane Hyland, who shares the concern that CO2 can result in warming of the planet. He looks at the problem rationally and scientifically, arguing that spending hundreds of billions of dollars to stop the oceans from rising, subsidizing the construction of thousands of wind turbines and millions of solar panels, and producing billions of gallons of ethanol will do little to reduce global warming. Join the author as he questions false assumptions and makes the case that courageous, brilliant scientists can tackle global warming by developing totally new, nonpolluting forms of energy in Steal the Wind, Reap the Whirlwind.

Download or read book The Heart of Midlothian & Rob Roy written by Walter Scott and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 1294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rob Roy (1817) is a historical novel by Walter Scott. It is a tale of adventure in the 18th century, set in the Scottish highlands, whose hero is the legendary maverick outlaw Rob Roy Macgregor. Though Rob Roy is not the lead character, his personality and actions are key to the novel's development. The Heart of Midlothian is a novel of Scottish history by Sir Walter Scott, published in four volumes in 1818. It is often considered to be his finest novel. The Old Tolbooth prison in Edinburgh is called "the heart of Midlothian," and there Effie Deans is held on charges of having murdered her illegitimate son. Her sister, Jeanie Deans, makes a dangerous journey through outlaw-infested regions to London to seek the queen's pardon for Effie. Justice and Scottish Presbyterianism are discussed at length, and issues of conscience provide the novel's themes. Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a prolific Scottish novelist, poet, historian, and biographer who is often considered both the inventor and the greatest practitioner of the historical novel.

Download or read book Robin Hood written by Scott Allen Nollen and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Errol Flynn to Kevin Costner to Daffy Duck, the bandit of Sherwood Forest has gone through a variety of incarnations on the way to becoming a cinematic staple. The historic Robin Hood—actually an amalgam of several outlaws of medieval England—was eventually transformed into the romantic and deadly archer-swordsman who “robbed from the rich to give to the poor.” This image was reinforced by popular literature, song—and film. This volume provides in-depth information on each film based on the immortal hero. In addition, other historical figures such as Scottish rebel-outlaws Rob Roy MacGregor and William Wallace are examined. Nollen also explores nontraditional representations of the legend, such as Frank Sinatra’s Robin and the Seven Hoods and Westerns featuring the Robin Hood motif. A filmography is provided, including production information. The text is highlighted by rare photographs, advertisements, and illustrations.
