This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the papers presented at the Course on "Tokamak Startup - Problems and Scenarios Related to the Transient Phases of a Thermonuclear Fusion Reactor" which was held in Erice, July 14-20, 1985. The fact that the critical startup and transient phases of a tokamak reactor are now the specific subject of a comprehensive international gathering of fusion specialists seems indicative of the substantial pro gress made in recent years towards attaining controlled ignition of a nuclear fusion fuel, i.e. towards demonstrating the scientific feasibili ty of controlled thermonuclear fusion. In fact, the steady-state burning phase has attracted so far most of the attention of fusion physicists and engineers, as it is conceptually more rewarding, and theoretically easier to handle. However, as for many large engineering systems, - nuclear fis- ... ':1' " . 10 ' ... Download or read book Fusion Neutronics written by Yican Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-16 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic and comprehensive introduction to fusion neutronics, covering all key topics from the fundamental theories and methodologies, as well as a wide range of fusion system designs and experiments. It is the first-ever book focusing on the subject of fusion neutronics research. Compared with other nuclear devices such as fission reactors and accelerators, fusion systems are normally characterized by their complex geometry and nuclear physics, which entail new challenges for neutronics such as complicated modeling, deep penetration, low simulation efficiency, multi-physics coupling, etc. The book focuses on the neutronic characteristics of fusion systems and introduces a series of theories and methodologies that were developed to address the challenges of fusion neutronics. Further, it introduces readers to the unique principles and procedures of neutronics design, experimental methodologies and methodologies for fusion systems. The book not only highlights the latest advances and trends in the field, but also draws on the experiences and skills collected in the author’s more than 40 years of research. To make it more accessible and enhance its practical value, various representative examples are included to illustrate the application and efficiency of the methods, designs and experimental techniques discussed.

The Handbook consists of three volumes. Volume III focuses on the range of reflector antenna applications, including space, terrestrial, and radar. The intent of this book volume is to provide practical applications and design information on reflector antennas used for several communications systems. This book covers recent developments of reflector antennas used for satellite communications, terrestrial communications, and remote sensing applications. New subjects are introduced for the first time, including satellite antennas, Terahertz antennas, PIM, multipaction, corona, deployable mesh reflector antennas, and mechanical aspects of reflector antennas. In addition, this book contains a separate topic on integrated feed assembly for reflector antennas covering analysis, design, fabrication, and test.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Particle Physics by : Dezső Horváth
Download or read book Introduction to Particle Physics written by Dezső Horváth and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a unique treatise on the present status of particle physics summarised for physics students at an introductory level: it provides insights into the essential experimental and theoretical techniques needed to start research at modern high energy accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The first three parts of the book discuss the experimental and phenomenological aspects at a level suitable for MSc students, but BSc students interested in particle physics will also find useful information there. The fourth part is oriented to advanced MSc or PhD students to make them acquainted with the precise formulation of the standard model of particle interactions, as well as with the mathematical background needed for the correct interpretation of the experimental results. In this two-step approach, the book offers a gradually deepening understanding of particle physics, building up the standard model and providing an overview of its verification, together with the necessary theoretical and experimental techniques. Using the example of the simplest present-day experiments, it is explained how one can obtain experimental results and theoretical estimations for measurable quantities from clear basic principles. The sources of uncertainties and the methods of improving precision are also discussed.

Book Synopsis Iter Physics by : C Wendell Horton, Jr
Download or read book Iter Physics written by C Wendell Horton, Jr and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The promise of a vast and clean source of thermal power drove physics research for over fifty years and has finally come to collimation with the international consortium led by the European Union and Japan, with an agreement from seven countries to build a definitive test of fusion power in ITER. It happened because scientists since the Manhattan project have envisioned controlled nuclear fusion in obtaining energy with no carbon dioxide emissions and no toxic nuclear waste products. This large toroidal magnetic confinement ITER machine is described from confinement process to advanced physics of plasma-wall interactions, where pulses erupt from core plasma blistering the machine walls. Emissions from the walls reduce the core temperature which must remain ten times hotter than the 15 million degree core solar temperature to maintain ITER fusion power. The huge temperature gradient from core to wall that drives intense plasma turbulence is described in detail. Also explained are the methods designed to limit the growth of small magnetic islands, the growth of edge localized plasma plumes and the solid state physics limits of the stainless steel walls of the confinement vessel from the burning plasma. Designs of the wall coatings and the special 'exhaust pipe' for spent hot plasma are provided in two chapters. And the issues associated with high-energy neutrons — about 10 times higher than in fission reactions — and how they are managed in ITER, are detailed.
Book Synopsis Applications of Superconductivity by : H. Weinstock
Download or read book Applications of Superconductivity written by H. Weinstock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, in essence the proceedings of a NATO Advanced Study Institute with the same title, is designed to provide in-depth coverage of many, but not all, of the major current applications of superconductivity, and of many that still are being developed. It will be of value to scientists and engineers who have interests in the research and production aspects of the technology, as well as in the applications themselves. The ftrst three chapters (by Clarke, Vrba and Wikswo) are devoted to an understanding of the principles, fabrication and uses of SQUID magnetometers and gradiometers, with the greatest emphasis on biomagnetism and nondestructive evaluation (NDE). For the most part, traditional low-temperature superconductor (LTS) SQUIDs are used, but particularly for NDE, high-temperature superconductor (HTS) SQUIDs are proving useful and often more convenient. The succeeding three chapters (by Przybysz, Likharev and Chaloupka) cover broader aspects of superconducting electronics. The ftrst two of these deal primarily with digital L TS circuits, while the third discusses in great detail passive component applications using HTS materials. Currently, HTS ftlters are undergoing intense J3-site testing at cellular telephone base stations. While it is clear that HTS ftlters outperform conventional ftlters in reducing signal loss and allowing for more channels in a given bandwidth, it isn't yet certain that the cellular telephone industry sees sufficient economic beneftts to make a ftrm decision to use HTS ftlters universally in its systems. If this application is generally adapted, the market for these ftlters should be quite large.
