Download or read book Mixing written by H. Chaté and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mixing may be thought of as the operation by which a system evolves from one state of simplicity (initial segregation) to another state of simplicity (complete uniformity). Between these two extremes, complex patterns emerge and die. Questions naturally arise- how can the geometry of complex patterns be characterised, what is the time scale of the process, what structures are involved in the flow? This volume, comprising the proceedings of the NATO ASI on Mixing, attempts to address these questions from the approaches of geometry, kinetics and structure. The ASI which brought together diverse communities with a common interest in the problem of mixing, now provides us with a comprehensive work on the problem of mixing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AI!, in the earlier conferences (Tokyo, 1986; Atlanta, 1988, Melbourne, 1991; and Hong Kong, 1992) the response to the call for presentations at ICES-95 in Hawaii has been overwhelming. A very careful screening of the extended abstracts resulted in about 500 paper being accepted for presentation. Out of these, written versions of about 480 papers reached the conference secretariat in Atlanta in time for inclusion in these proceedings. The topics covered at ICES-95 range over the broadest spectrum of computational engineering science. The editors thank the international scientific committee, for their advice and encouragement in making ICES-95 a successful scientific event. Special thanks are expressed to the International Association for Boundary Elements Methods for hosting IABEM-95 in conjunction with ICES-95. The editors here express their deepest gratitude to Ms. Stacy Morgan for her careful handling of a myriad of details of ICES-95, often times under severe time constraints. The editors hope that the readers of this proceedings will find a kaleidoscopic view of computational engineering in the year 1995, as practiced in various parts of the world. Satya N. Book Synopsis Ordered and Turbulent Patterns in Taylor-Couette Flow by : C. David Andereck
Download or read book Ordered and Turbulent Patterns in Taylor-Couette Flow written by C. David Andereck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seldom does a physical system, particularly one as apparently simple as the flow of a Newtonian fluid between concentric rotating cylinders, retain the interest of scientists, applied mathematicians and engineers for very long. Yet, as this volume goes to press it has been nearly 70 years since G. I. Taylor's outstanding experimental and theoretical study of the linear stability of this flow was published, and a century since the first experiments were performed on rotating cylinder viscometers. Since then, the study of this system has progressed enormously, but new features of the flow patterns are still being uncovered. Interesting variations on the basic system abound. Connections with open flows are being made. More complex fluids are used in some experiments. The vigor of the research going on in this particular example of nonequilibrium systems was very apparent at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Ordered and Turbulent Patterns in Taylor Couette Flow," held in Columbus, Ohio, USA May 22-24, 1991. A primary goal of this ARW was to bring together those interested in pattern formation in the classic Taylor Couette problem with those looking at variations on the basic system and with those interested in related systems, in order to better define the interesting areas for the future, the open questions, and the features common (and not common) to closed and open systems. This volume contains many of the contributions presented during the workshop.

This book was released on 1998-08-08 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume records the presentations and discussions at the Second Royal Society-Unilever Indo-UK Forum on 'Dynamics of Complex Fluids' which was the culmination of the six-month programme on this topic organised at the Issac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge University. The authors of this important volume present an up-to-date, wide-ranging view on developments in the analysis of complex fluid behaviour. Emphasis is placed upon the relation between small-scale structure and large-scale response: this brings together the approaches of molecular physics and continuum mechanics.Experiments, constitutive models and computer simulations are combined to yield new insights into the flow behaviour of polymer melts and solutions, colloidal and neutral particle suspensions, and pastes and soils.

Book Synopsis Fluid Mechanics: Volume 2 by : C. S. Jog
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics: Volume 2 written by C. S. Jog and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid mechanics is the study of fluids including liquids, gases and plasmas and the forces acting on them. Its study is critical in predicting rainfall, ocean currents, reducing drag on cars and aeroplanes, and design of engines. The subject is also interesting from a mathematical perspective due to the nonlinear nature of its equations. For example, the topic of turbulence has been a subject of interest to both mathematicians and engineers: to the former because of its mathematically complex nature and to the latter group because of its ubiquitous presence in real-life applications. This book is a follow-up to the first volume and discusses the concepts of fluid mechanics in detail. The book gives an in-depth summary of the governing equations and their engineering related applications. It also comprehensively discusses the fundamental theories related to kinematics and governing equations, hydrostatics, surface waves and ideal fluid flow, followed by their applications.
Book Synopsis Laminar Flow and Convective Transport Processes by : Howard Brenner
Download or read book Laminar Flow and Convective Transport Processes written by Howard Brenner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 761 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laminar Flow and Convective Transport Processes: Scaling Principles and Asymptotic Analysis presents analytic methods for the solution of fluid mechanics and convective transport processes, all in the laminar flow regime. This book brings together the results of almost 30 years of research on the use of nondimensionalization, scaling principles, and asymptotic analysis into a comprehensive form suitable for presentation in a core graduate-level course on fluid mechanics and the convective transport of heat. A considerable amount of material on viscous-dominated flows is covered. A unique feature of this book is its emphasis on scaling principles and the use of asymptotic methods, both as a means of solution and as a basis for qualitative understanding of the correlations that exist between independent and dependent dimensionless parameters in transport processes. Laminar Flow and Convective Transport Processes is suitable for use as a textbook for graduate courses in fluid mechanics and transport phenomena and also as a reference for researchers in the field.

Book Synopsis Computational Fluid Dynamics Review 1998 (In 2 Volumes) by : Mohamed M Hafez
Download or read book Computational Fluid Dynamics Review 1998 (In 2 Volumes) written by Mohamed M Hafez and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-11-20 with total page 1169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of CFD Review was published in 1995. The purpose of this new publication is to present comprehensive surveys and review articles which provide up-to-date information about recent progress in computational fluid dynamics, on a regular basis. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of CFD, it is difficult to cope with all the important developments in related areas. There are at least ten regular international conferences dealing with different aspects of CFD.It is a real challenge to keep up with all these activities and to be aware of essential and fundamental contributions in these areas. It is hoped that CFD Review will help in this regard by covering the state-of-the-art in this field. The present book contains sixty-two articles written by authors from the US, Europe, Japan and China, covering the main aspects of CFD. There are five sections: general topics, numerical methods, flow physics, interdisciplinary applications, parallel computation and flow visualization. The section on numerical methods includes grids, schemes and solvers, while that on flow physics includes incompressible and compressible flows, hypersonics and gas kinetics as well as transition and turbulence. This book should be useful to all researchers in this fast-developing field.
