Book Synopsis Statistical Analysis of Network Data by : Eric D. Kolaczyk
Download or read book Statistical Analysis of Network Data written by Eric D. Kolaczyk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-04-20 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been an explosion of network data – that is, measu- ments that are either of or from a system conceptualized as a network – from se- ingly all corners of science. The combination of an increasingly pervasive interest in scienti c analysis at a systems level and the ever-growing capabilities for hi- throughput data collection in various elds has fueled this trend. Researchers from biology and bioinformatics to physics, from computer science to the information sciences, and from economics to sociology are more and more engaged in the c- lection and statistical analysis of data from a network-centric perspective. Accordingly, the contributions to statistical methods and modeling in this area have come from a similarly broad spectrum of areas, often independently of each other. Many books already have been written addressing network data and network problems in speci c individual disciplines. However, there is at present no single book that provides a modern treatment of a core body of knowledge for statistical analysis of network data that cuts across the various disciplines and is organized rather according to a statistical taxonomy of tasks and techniques. This book seeks to ll that gap and, as such, it aims to contribute to a growing trend in recent years to facilitate the exchange of knowledge across the pre-existing boundaries between those disciplines that play a role in what is coming to be called ‘network science.

Book Synopsis Large Scale Networks by : Radu Dobrescu
Download or read book Large Scale Networks written by Radu Dobrescu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a rigorous analysis of the achievements in the field of traffic control in large networks, oriented on two main aspects: the self-similarity in traffic behaviour and the scale-free characteristic of a complex network. Additionally, the authors propose a new insight in understanding the inner nature of things, and the cause-and-effect based on the identification of relationships and behaviours within a model, which is based on the study of the influence of the topological characteristics of a network upon the traffic behaviour. The effects of this influence are then discussed in order to find new solutions for traffic monitoring and diagnosis and also for traffic anomalies prediction. Although these concepts are illustrated using highly accurate, highly aggregated packet traces collected on backbone Internet links, the results of the analysis can be applied for any complex network whose traffic processes exhibit asymptotic self-similarity, perceived as an adaptability of traffic in networks. However, the problem with self-similar models is that they are computationally complex. Their fitting procedure is very time-consuming, while their parameters cannot be estimated based on the on-line measurements. In this aim, the main objective of this book is to discuss the problem of traffic prediction in the presence of self-similarity and particularly to offer a possibility to forecast future traffic variations and to predict network performance as precisely as possible, based on the measured traffic history.

Book excerpt: This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications IMAGE MODELS (AND THEIR SPEECH MODEL COUSINS) is based on the proceedings of a workshop that was an integral part of the 1993-94 IMA program on "Emerging Applications of Probability." We thank Stephen E. Levinson and Larry Shepp for organizing the workshop and for editing the proceedings. We also take this opportunity to thank the National Science Foundation, the Army Research Office, and the National Security Agency, whose financial support made the workshop possible. A vner Friedman Willard Miller, Jr. v PREFACE This volume is an attempt to explore the interface between two diverse areas of applied mathematics that are both "customers" of the maximum likelihood methodology: emission tomography (on the one hand) and hid den Markov models as an approach to speech understanding (on the other hand). There are other areas where maximum likelihood is used, some of which are represented in this volume: parsing of text (Jelinek), microstruc ture of materials (Ji), and DNA sequencing (Nelson). Most of the partici pants were in the main areas of speech or emission density reconstruction. Of course, there are many other areas where maximum likelihood is used that are not represented here.

We are currently witnessing a proliferation in mobile/wireless technologies and applications. However, these new technologies have ushered in unprecedented challenges for the research community across the range of networking, mobile computing, network security and wireless web applications, and optical network topics. ICCNMC 2005 was sponsored by the China Computer Federation, in cooperation with the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society. The objective of this conference was to address and capture highly innovative and stateof-the-art research and work in the networks and mobile computing industries. ICCNMC 2005 allowed sharing of the underlying theories and applications, and the establishment of new and long-term collaborative channels aimed at developing innovative concepts and solutions geared to future markets. The highly positive response to ICCNMC 2001 and ICCNMC 2003, held in Beijing and Shanghai, respectively, encouraged us to continue this international event. In its third year, ICCNMC 2005 continued to provide a forum for researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners from around the world to report on new advances in computer network and mobile computing, as well as to identify issues and directions for research and development in the new era of evolving technologies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's time for people all over the world to start using the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet of Things ranges from wearable sensors to the latest advances in cloud computing. B. consists of several main types of networks, such as distributed, networked, ubiquitous, and vehicle networks; They dominated the information technology field for most of the decade. The sensors are sensed in a variety of areas and environments, including: parking; vehicle tracking; enter patient information; observation of postoperative patients; assistance to children and the elderly; use of chip cards and near field cards. Also, sensors are an important part of the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things runs on a variety of standard networks and configurations. In rare cases, there is no single network without vulnerabilities or vulnerabilities. Every layer of the Internet of Things (IoT) is vulnerable to a unique set of threats. To enable secure Internet of Things (IoT) communications, this section focuses on potential threats that need to be addressed and mitigated. Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Auto-ID Lab first came up with the idea for the Internet of Things (IoT) (MIT) in 1999. ITU made it available for the first time in 2005, starting in China. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term that stands for "always accessible data and devices on the Internet". Relationships of things (items) that can be discussed It should come as no surprise that the Internet of Things is composed of numerous distinct kinds of networks. As can be seen in Figure 1.1, the technologies of radio frequency identification (RFID), sensors, smart technologies, and nanotechnology are the primary contributors to the Internet of Things for a variety of services. There are approximately 28 billion different reasons why people should be concerned about the Internet of Things, as stated by a statement made by Goldman Sachs. In addition, they claimed that if the stationary Internet was able to connect 1 billion end users in the 1990s, then the mobile Internet would be able to connect an additional 2 billion end users in the 2000s. Internet. Given the rate of progress being made at the moment, not before the year 2020.
