Book excerpt: Excerpt from Stationary Transformers: Theory, Connections, Operation and Testing of Constant-Potential, Constant-Current, Series and Auto Transformers, Potential Regulators, Etc Although much has been written on the fundamental principles of transformers, there has been little published concerning their Connection, installation and operation. It was this lack of easily available information and the widespread desire of operators and engineers in the field to possess such information, that led the author to put in type these notes, which had been written up in the course of a number of years of experience in the field. A working knowledge of the fundamental principles of electrical engineering is presupposed, and for this reason the treatment does not go into the whys and wherefores very deeply, but simply states the facts in as few words as possible. To aid in understanding quickly the phase relations and relative values of the various e.m.fs. and currents involved in a given system, vector diagrams are given with all diagrams of circuit connections. In practice it is an easy matter for a station engineer to determine whether a combinaition of transformers is correct or not by simply applying the voltage; but in case the test should prove wrong it is not always an easy matter to determine where the error exists. In the treatment of this. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before delving into the mysteries of receiving and sending messages without wires, a word as to the history of the art and its present day applications may be of service. While popular interest in the subject has gone forward by leaps and bounds within the last two or three years, it has been a matter of scientific experiment for more than a quarter of a century. The wireless telegraph was invented by William Marconi, at Bologna, Italy, in 1896, and in his first experiments he sent dot and dash signals to a distance of 200 or 300 feet. The wireless telephone was invented by the author of this book at Narberth, Penn., in 1899, and in his first experiments the human voice was transmitted to a distance of three blocks. The first vital experiments that led up to the invention of the wireless telegraph were made by Heinrich Hertz, of Germany, in 1888 when he showed that the spark of an induction coil set up electric oscillations in an open circuit, and that the energy of these waves was, in turn, sent out in the form of electric waves. He also showed how they could be received at a distance by means of a ring detector, which he called a resonator.
Book Synopsis Electric Machinery and Transformers by : Bhag S. Guru
Download or read book Electric Machinery and Transformers written by Bhag S. Guru and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1995 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For this revision of their bestselling junior- and senior-level text, Guru & Hiziroglu have incorporated eleven years of cutting-edge developments in the field since Electric Machinery & Transformers was first published. Completely re-written, the new Second Edition also incorporates suggestions from students and instructors who have used the First Edition, making it the best text available for junior- and senior-level courses in electric machines. The new edition features a wealth of new and improved problems and examples, designed to complement the authors' overall goal of encouraging intuitive reasoning rather than rote memorization of material. Chapter 3, which presents the conversion of energy, now includes: analysis of magnetically coupled coils, induced emf in a coil rotating in a uniform magnetic field, induced emf in a coil rotating in a time-varying magnetic field, and the concept of the revolving field. All problems and examples have been rigorously tested using Mathcad.
