Book excerpt: With both passion and precision, Lucifer at the Starlite explores life’s dual nature: good and evil, light and dark, suffering and moments of unexpected joy. Whether looking outward to events on the world stage—the war in Iraq, the 2004 Asian tsunami—or inward at struggles with the self, these poems aim at the heart and against the feeling that Lucifer may have already won the day. from “Lucifer at the Starlite” Here’s my bright idea for life on earth: better management. The CEO has lost touch with the details. I’m worth as much, but I care; I come down here, I show my face, I’m a real regular. A toast: To our boys and girls in the war, grinding through sand, to everybody here, our host who’s mostly mist, like methane rising
Book Synopsis Starlight and Time by : D. Russell Humphreys
Download or read book Starlight and Time written by D. Russell Humphreys and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 1996-10 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible says the universe is just thousands of years old, and yet we can see stars that are billions of light-years away. Until now, creation scientists have not had a satisfactory answer to this puzzle, but the new cosmology outlined in this book offers a fresh and scientifically sound solution. Though he challenges some traditional creationist theories, Dr. Humphreys takes Scripture very straightforwardly, upholding its inerrancy and the idea of a young universe as he explains days one through four of creation week.
Book Synopsis Genesis One Commentary In Light of Modern Science by : J.A. Merritt
Download or read book Genesis One Commentary In Light of Modern Science written by J.A. Merritt and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-01-02 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis 1 is badly understood in terms of its scientific value and in light of other Scriptures. This book is a detailed look at the first chapter of the Bible with systematic comments on every phrase. My hope for this book is to counteract some of the unfortunate Creation traditions. These ancient traditions are unfortunate because they do not stem from a whole-Bible approach to interpreting Genesis 1 and are at odds with the prevailing scientific knowledge of our days. Each phrase of each verse is clearly highlighted, followed by the interpretation, any application, and the scientific understanding, if any applies. This book is primarily designed as a reference book, though many people may be interested in reading it cover to cover. Because Genesis 1 uses repeated phrases, there is some repetition in this commentary, though I have tried to minimize the repetition. Be prepared to see Genesis as you've never seen it before: in light of modern science, an old earth, and even evolutionary theory.

Book Synopsis A Valley of Vision by : David B. Ruderman
Download or read book A Valley of Vision written by David B. Ruderman and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham ben Hananiah Yagel 1553-c.1624) composed his Hebrew work Gei Hizzayon (A Valley of Vision) in Italy at the end of the sixteenth century. This striking text, so different from the other writings of the prolific physician, natural philosopher, and kabbalist, is first an autobiographical account of the vicissitudes of the author's years as a Jewish loan banker. It is also a description of a heavenly journey he is taken on by the soul of his recently deceased father, who visits his son while he is imprisoned in Mantua for debt. Finally, it is a series of theological and moral discussions based on the insights of Judaism, particularly the kabbalah as understood by Yagel and his Italian contemporaries. A Valley of Vision is unique in Hebrew literature in its integration of traditional Jewish materials with contemporary literary and iconographic innovations. It is also a fascinating window into the social and cultural world of Italian Jewry at the end of the sixteenth century and its effect on the entire late Renaissance period. David B. Ruderman's is the first translation of this important work into any Western language. The book will be of great interest to both the specialist and the general reader of Jewish and late Renaissance history, thought, and literature.
Book Synopsis Poems of Francis Thompson by : Bridget Boardman
Download or read book Poems of Francis Thompson written by Bridget Boardman and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2002-04-07 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the research for her biography of Francis Thompson, Between Heaven and Charing Cross it became clear to Brigid Boardman that a new edition of his poetry was essential for a full recognition of the range and variety of his work. He remains best known for his great poem The Hound of Heaven but his work as a whole has never been properly presented. All previous editions include the many alterations and deletions that were made to Thompson's work posthumously by Wilfrid Meynell for the edition of 1913. Meynell's aim was to present the poetry in a strictly orthodox Catholic light in a period when fears about Modernism influenced the Church's understanding of literature. These anxieties have not served the poetry well. Thompson's aim was 'to be the poet of the return to God' and his work expresses the divine presence that he believed permeated all aspects of life. This edition finally restores an important English poet to the readers that he so deserves.

Download or read book Antolin written by Evelyn Regner Seno and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-05-26 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Romance, history, culture, intrigue . . . all in one book. This is based on a true story written by no less than a great-granddaughter of the central character, a Spanish Catholic priest of the friar orders. In the late nineteenth century, Father Antolin Frias occupies a significant position as administrator in the churches of Cebu in the Philippines, while the entire colony, Las Islas Filipinas, is on the verge of rebellion against the Spanish colonizers. Caught in a web of intrigue and romance, the priest is a man who struggles to liberate himself from the tyranny of his own life. Around him brews a boiling cauldron of violence and bloodshed as the nation struggles toward freedom from oppression. He knows freedom comes only with truth. Both man and nation must seek truth. But the truth is elusive and comes at a high price. With a touch of Jungian psychology and Hegelian philosophy, the book contains discussions of facts, folklore, and reflections. This adds credibility to the writers romantic interpretation of the characters own conflicts and moral struggle, as narrated by each of them in the first person. The book also contains a documentary made up of old photographs of the family and relevant historical places.
