Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elmer Kelton's Stand Proud and Eyes of the Hawk are two novels of fierce men tested by the Old West, written by one of the most critically acclaimed writers of the American west and offered at one low price. Stand Proud Frank Claymore is cantankerous, stubborn, and intolerant—just the qualities that make him a success as an open-range cattle rancher on the West Texas frontier. Stand Proud follows Claymore from the time of the Civil War to the dawn of the twentieth century—through marriage, births, deaths, and a creeping change in the society that once hailed him as a hero, and which later has him condemned as a despoiler and tried for murder. Eyes of the Hawk Thomas Canfield descends from a line of Texas’s earliest settlers. A proud man with a fierce-eyes stare, he inspires the Mexicans of Stonehill, Texas to call him el gavilan—“the hawk.” When Branch Isom—an insolent, dangerous newcomer—seeks to build his fortune at Canfeild’s expense, an all-out feud ensues, hurtling the town toward a day of reckoning that will shake the entire town to its very roots. Book excerpt: I was born in Swan River Manitoba and raised in Kamsack Saskatchewan. I left home at seventeen and spent twenty six years in the Canadian military. My life has taken me through such a series of diverse events that the desire to share the stories that touched my life became a life goal. I believe everyone has a story to share and from each story another can be told. We relate to life events from experiences related by others. This book has no real beginning or end it is a mere snapshot in time. I purposely wrote this book using no names so others could relate to stories within their own life. We all have had people that impacted our lives and at that time there stories have moved us. Once gone they are not forgotten but some of their unique stories are. Read, enjoy, share.

Book excerpt: This book developed from my writing the first poem titled" Now Will You Serve Me?," after my husband and I endured a traumatic experience with our neighbors. As we were going through that ordeal, I stated to my husband " God is not happy with us,"-"We are not serving him wholeheartedly." We developed a routine - making excuses not to attend church, while focusing on worldly issues and material things. As we waited on an answer to our prayers, we were directed by God immediately to a new church home. Praise God!!! While at this church, I had the opportunity to read this poem to my former Pastor's wife and she was so moved by it, that she strongly suggested that I compile a book. Shortly after, my former Pastor allowed me to recite my inspirational poems to the congregation every Sunday. The congregation embraced me with tremendous support, encouragement and love. I began to write a new poem every week based on life events and God's anointing. At times, I would be driving down the highway on my way home from work, and I would get a thought that was so overwhelming that I was compelled to pull over and grab a piece of paper and start writing. I thank God for this gift! I pray as you read the reflections in this book, you will be uplifted and encouraged to seek God to establish a deeper, closer relationship with him. I know God is real and he gives us the choice to serve him or not! If you choose wisely, you will never regret it and will be richly blessed. To God Be the Glory!!!

Book excerpt: A standards-based teacher’s guide from the educator behind the #1 New York Times bestseller The Freedom Writers Diary, with innovative teaching techniques that will engage, empower, and enlighten. Don’t miss the public television documentary Freedom Writers: Stories from the Heart In response to thousands of letters and e-mails from teachers across the country who learned about Erin Gruwell and her amazing students in The Freedom Writers Diary and the hit movie Freedom Writers, Gruwell and a team of teacher experts have written The Freedom Writers Diary Teacher’s Guide, a book that will encourage teachers and students to expand the walls of their classrooms and think outside the box. Here Gruwell goes in depth and shares her unconventional but highly successful educational strategies and techniques (all 150 of her students, who had been deemed “unteachable,” graduated from Wilson High School in Long Beach, California): from her very successful “toast for change” (an exercise in which Gruwell exhorted her students to leave the past behind and start fresh) to writing exercises that focus on the importance of journal writing, vocabulary, and more. In an easy-to-use format with black-and-white illustrations, this teacher’s guide will become the essential go-to manual for teachers who want to make a difference in their pupils’ lives.

During this time, I lost my Father Michael McCarthy to the dreaded cancer as well as his sister and my dear Aunt, Shelagh Barnard, so I would like to dedicate this book to their memory. Some dear friends have also suffered with loss and I have included many poems written for them, some at a request for a eulogy type piece. Other poems were inspired by world events or just a photograph, [the latter usually inspired my war pieces].
