Book Synopsis Stagnation-point Flow of a Variable-property Fluid at Low Reynolds Numbers by : Michael Lenard
Download or read book Stagnation-point Flow of a Variable-property Fluid at Low Reynolds Numbers written by Michael Lenard and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steady, viscous, two-dimensional and axially symmetric stagnation-point flows of a gas are considered for the case when the Reynolds number is too low for the applicability of the classical boundary-layer theory. It is assumed that the low-density gas is still a continuous fluid, permitting the use of the Navier-Stokes and as associated equations as the basis of the problem. The effects of low Reynolds number are determined by applying an expansion procedure to the fluid dynamical equations.

Book excerpt: Progress in Astronautics and Rocketry, Volume 7: Hypersonic Flow Research compiles papers presented at a conference on hypersonics held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in August 1961. This book discusses the low Reynolds number effects, chemical kinetics effects, inviscid flow calculations, and experimental techniques relating to the problems in acquiring an understanding of hypersonic flow. The structure and composition of hypersonic wakes with attendant complex chemical kinetic effects is only briefly mentioned. This text consists of five parts. Parts A to C comprise of theoretical papers on the problems of calculating flow fields at hypersonic speeds. The experimental techniques that are of immediate practical interest in view of the difficulty of flight testing are discussed in Parts D and E. This publication is beneficial to engineers involved in advanced design problems.

Book Synopsis The Blunt-body Problem in Hypersonic Flow at Low Reynolds Number by : H. K. Cheng
Download or read book The Blunt-body Problem in Hypersonic Flow at Low Reynolds Number written by H. K. Cheng and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing theoretical analyses and experimental results of the stagnation region in hypersonic flow at low Reynolds number are discussed. The approach based on the thin-shock-layer approxi mation is extended to study flow fields beyond the stagnation region as well as in the shock transition zone. The basic flow model consists of two adjoining thin layers: a shock-transition zone and a shock layer. The system of partial differential equations governing the high-density shock layer reduces to the parabolic type. The system governing the shock-transition zone reduces to ordinary differential equations similar to those of the one-dimensional shock wave. They give rise to a set of conservation relations across the shock, which account for the transport processes immediately behind the shock but do not involve details of shock-wave structure. With the modified Rankine-Hugoniot relations, the flow field in shock layer can be determined independ ently of the shock-transition zone. An essential feature of this formulation is that, when applied in conjunction with nonslip surface conditions, it always yields the appropriate surface heat transfer rate and skin friction (for unit accommo dation coefficients) in the free-molecule limit. Book Synopsis Analytical Fluid Dynamics by : George Emanuel
Download or read book Analytical Fluid Dynamics written by George Emanuel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 1091 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Edition Now Covers Shock-Wave Analysis An in-depth presentation of analytical methods and physical foundations, Analytical Fluid Dynamics, Third Edition breaks down the "how" and "why" of fluid dynamics. While continuing to cover the most fundamental topics in fluid mechanics, this latest work emphasizes advanced analytical approaches to aid in the analytical process and corresponding physical interpretation. It also addresses the need for a more flexible mathematical language (utilizing vector and tensor analysis and transformation theory) to cover the growing complexity of fluid dynamics. Revised and updated, the text centers on shock-wave structure, shock-wave derivatives, and shock-produced vorticity; supersonic diffusers; thrust and lift from an asymmetric nozzle; and outlines operator methods and laminar boundary-layer theory. In addition, the discussion introduces pertinent assumptions, reasons for studying a particular topic, background discussion, illustrative examples, and numerous end-of-chapter problems. Utilizing a wide variety of topics on inviscid and viscous fluid dynamics, the author covers material that includes: Viscous dissipation The second law of thermodynamics Calorically imperfect gas flows Aerodynamic sweep Shock-wave interference Unsteady one-dimensional flow Internal ballistics Force and momentum balance The Substitution Principle Rarefaction shock waves A comprehensive treatment of flow property derivatives just downstream of an unsteady three-dimensional shock Shock-generated vorticity Triple points An extended version of the Navier‒Stokes equations Shock-free supersonic diffusers Lift and thrust from an asymmetric nozzle Analytical Fluid Dynamics, Third Edition outlines the basics of analytical fluid mechanics while emphasizing analytical approaches to fluid dynamics. Covering the material in-depth, this book provides an authoritative interpretation of formulations and procedures in analytical fluid dynamics, and offers analytical solutions to fluid dynamic problems.
