Book Synopsis The Dynamic Systems of Basic Economic Growth Models by : Bjarne S. Jensen
Download or read book The Dynamic Systems of Basic Economic Growth Models written by Bjarne S. Jensen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two central problems in the pure theory of economic growth are analysed in this monograph: 1) the dynamic laws governing the economic growth processes, 2) the kinematic and geometric properties of the set of solutions to the dynamic systems. With allegiance to rigor and the emphasis on the theoretical fundamentals of prototype mathematical growth models, the treatise is written in the theorem-proof style. To keep the exposition orderly and as smooth as possible, the economic analysis has been separated from the purely mathematical issues, and hence the monograph is organized in two books. Regarding the scope and content of the two books, an "Introduction and Over view" has been prepared to offer both motivation and a brief account. The introduc tion is especially designed to give a recapitulation of the mathematical theory and results presented in Book II, which are used as the unifying mathematical framework in the analysis and exposition of the different economic growth models in Book I. Economists would probably prefer to go directly to Book I and proceed by consult ing the mathematical theorems of Book II in confirming the economic theorems in Book I. Thereby, both the independence and interdependence of the economic and mathematical argumentations are respected.

Book Synopsis The Uzawa-Lucas Endogenous Growth Model by : Paolo Mattana
Download or read book The Uzawa-Lucas Endogenous Growth Model written by Paolo Mattana and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using state of the art mathematical techniques this book provides a complete characterization of the Uzawa-Lucas growth model. In his path-breaking contribution on the 'Mechanics of Economic Growth' Lucas suggested that human capital is the key variable through which technical change is most likely to occur and (by taking some initial intuitions of Uzawa a step further) proposed a two-sector capital accumulation growth model where human capital is allowed to enter a neo-classical-style production structure in multiplicative terms. In this book Paolo Mattana fully explores the dynamic possibilities of the model from both the market and the centralized perspective. A critical evaluation of the inefficiency in the market economy is also provided.
Book Synopsis Wage Differentials and Economic Growth (Routledge Revivals) by : Pasquale Sgro
Download or read book Wage Differentials and Economic Growth (Routledge Revivals) written by Pasquale Sgro and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which was first published in 1980, is concerned with one particular branch of growth theory, namely descriptive growth theory. It is typically assumed in growth theory that both the factors and goods market are perfectly competitive. In particular this implies amongst other things that the reward to each factor is identical in each sector of the economy. In this book the assumption of identical factor rewards is relaxed and the implications of an intersectoral wage differential for economic growth are analysed. There is also some discussion on the short-term and long-run effects of minimum wage legislation on growth. This book will serve as key reading for students of economics.

Book Synopsis A. W. H. Phillips: Collected Works in Contemporary Perspective by : Alban William Housego Phillips
Download or read book A. W. H. Phillips: Collected Works in Contemporary Perspective written by Alban William Housego Phillips and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-08-03 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtually all of contemporary macroeconomics is underpinned by a Phillips curve of one variety or another; yet most of this literature displays a curious neglect of the theoretical dynamic stabilisation perspective provided by A. W. H. Phillips. This 2000 volume collected for the first time the major work of one of the great economists, integrating Phillips's empirical work with his theoretical contribution. In addition to twelve substantive chapters, twenty-nine economists including Lawrence Klein, James Meade, Thomas Sargent, Peter Phillips, David Hendry, William Baumol, Richard Lipsey and Geoffrey Harcourt highlight and interpret Phillips's ongoing influence. This volume also contains six of Phillips's previously unpublished essays, four of which were thought to have been lost. The fifth such essay (Phillips's second empirical Phillips curve) was previously an informal working paper of which few copies circulated, and the sixth essay is a forerunner of the Lucas Critique written by Phillips shortly before his death.

Excel workbooks are available for download from CRC Press website. In this second edition, the author has revised all chapters and improved a number of the examples. This edition also includes two entirely new chapters: Characterization of Uncertainty covers asymptotic errors and likelihood profiles and develops a generalized Gibbs sampler to run a Markov chain Monte Carlo analysis that can be used to generate Bayesian posteriors Sized-Based Models implements a fully functional size-based stock assessment model using abalone as an example This book continues to cover a broad range of topics related to quantitative methods and modelling. It offers a solid foundation in the skills required for the quantitative study of marine populations. Explaining important and relatively complex ideas and methods in a clear manner, the author presents full, step-by-step derivations of equations as much as possible to enable a thorough understanding of the models and methods.

Book Synopsis Economic Dynamics by : John Stachurski
Download or read book Economic Dynamics written by John Stachurski and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2009-01-16 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rigorous and example-driven introduction to topics in economic dynamics, with an emphasis on mathematical and computational techniques for modeling dynamic systems. This text provides an introduction to the modern theory of economic dynamics, with emphasis on mathematical and computational techniques for modeling dynamic systems. Written to be both rigorous and engaging, the book shows how sound understanding of the underlying theory leads to effective algorithms for solving real world problems. The material makes extensive use of programming examples to illustrate ideas. These programs help bring to life the abstract concepts in the text. Background in computing and analysis is offered for readers without programming experience or upper-level mathematics. Topics covered in detail include nonlinear dynamic systems, finite-state Markov chains, stochastic dynamic programming, stochastic stability and computation of equilibria. The models are predominantly nonlinear, and the emphasis is on studying nonlinear systems in their original form, rather than by means of rudimentary approximation methods such as linearization. Much of the material is new to economics and improves on existing techniques. For graduate students and those already working in the field, Economic Dynamics will serve as an essential resource.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Economic Dynamics by : Srinivas Raghavendra
Download or read book An Introduction to Economic Dynamics written by Srinivas Raghavendra and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Economic Dynamics provides a framework for students to appreciate and understand the basic intuition behind economic models and to experiment with those models using simulation techniques in MATLAB®. This book goes beyond the often-limited scope of other texts on economic models, which have largely focused on elucidating static equilibrium models. Comparative static analysis inhibits students from asking how the equilibrium position is achieved from an initial out-of-equilibrium position and limits their understanding of the dynamics that underlie such analysis. In this textbook, readers are introduced to ten well-established macroeconomic models – including Keynesian multiplier models, Samuelson’s multiplier and Solow’s growth model – and guided through the dynamical systems behind each model. Every chapter begins with an overview of the economic problem which the model is designed to help solve followed by an explanation of the mathematics of the model. Solutions are provided using simulation and visualisation techniques in MATLAB®, which are interwoven organically with the analysis and are introduced in a step-by-step fashion to guide the reader along the way. Appendices provide an introduction to MATLAB® along with all the necessary codes. The book is ideally suited for courses in economic dynamics, macroeconomic modelling and computational economics, as well as for students of finance, mathematics and engineering who are interested in economic models.

Book Synopsis Property rights after market liberalization reforms by : Ricardo Fort
Download or read book Property rights after market liberalization reforms written by Ricardo Fort and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book discusses the links between land access, property rights, and economic development, analyzing the results and limitations of a public intervention- Land Titling and Registration- that constitutes one of the main instruments for contemporary land policy in Peru. It attempts to provide a comprehensive analysis and discussion of the importance of institutions, like land property rights, in the context of market liberalization reforms. In operational terms, this means verifying whether land titling constitutes a necessary and/or sufficient condition to promote investments and increase land values. This book reveals that titling and registration can be considered as a necessary condition to improve investment opportunities when its implementation procedure is based on the recognition of previous informal land rights and community networks, because its effect on the reduction of transaction costs at a regional level improves the dynamics of land markets and facilitates the entrance of formal financial institutions. A decentralized program is more likely to understand and correctly assess local conditions, as well as to concentrate its work on poorer farmers confronting stronger limitations to acquire tenure security by other means. Targeting must be applied also at the regional level, identifying less-developed areas that can benefit from the externality effects provided by increased levels of titling density. The presence of other limitations that constrain the participation of small farmers in the formal credit market, and the inability of titling to solve them by itself, makes it difficult to consider this policy as a sufficient condition to improve the livelihood of poorer farmers. Complementary policies that provide small farmers with the opportunity to increase their land-holdings, as well as the possibility to acquire insurance against negative shocks, need urgent implementation."
