Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An implicit method was developed for integrating the equations of motion for a lumped-mass model of a rotor dynamics system. An an aside, a closed-form solution to the short-bearing theory was also developed for a damper with arbitrary motion. The major conclusions are that the method is numerically stable and that the computation time is proportional to the number of elements in the rotor dynamics model rather than to the cube of the number. This computer code, for thefirst time, allows the simulation of a complex rotor bearing system experiencing nonlinear transient motion and displays the vast amount of results in an easily understood motion-picture format - a 10-minute, 16-millimeter, color, sound motion-picture supplement. An example problem with 19 mass elements in the rotor dynamics model took 0.7 second of central processing unit time per time step on IBM 360-67 computer in a time-sharing mode. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the demand for electrical power increases, power systems are being operated closer to their stability limits than ever before. This text focuses on explaining and analysing the dynamic performance of such systems which is important for both system operation and planning. Placing emphasis on understanding the underlying physical principles, the book opens with an exploration of basic concepts using simple mathematical models. Building on these firm foundations the authors proceed to more complex models and algorithms. Features include: * Progressive approach from simplicity to complexity. * Detailed description of slow and fast dynamics. * Examination of the influence of automatic control on power system dynamics. * Stability enhancement including the use of PSS and Facts. * Advanced models and algorithms for power system stability analysis. Senior undergraduate, postgraduate and research students studying power systems will appreciate the authors' accessible approach. Also for electric utility engineers, this valuable resource examines power system dynamics and stability from both a mathematical and engineering viewpoint.

Book Synopsis Power System Dynamics by : Jan Machowski
Download or read book Power System Dynamics written by Jan Machowski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-08-31 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the fully revised and updated second edition of Power System Dynamics and Stability published in 1997. The modified title Power System Dynamics: Stability and Control reflects a slight shift in focus from solely describing power system dynamics to the means of dealing with them. The book has been expanded by about a third to include: a new chapter on wind power generation; a new section on wide-area measurement systems (WAMS) and their application for real-time control; an overview of lessons learned from wide-spread blackouts affecting North America and Europe in 2003, 2004 and 2006; enhanced treatment of voltage stability and control, and frequency stability and control; application of Lyapunov direct method to analyse and enhance stability of multi-machine power systems ; expanded coverage of steady-state stability using eigenvalue analysis, including modal analysis of dynamic equivalents. The book continues the successful approach of the first edition by progressing from simplicity to complexity. It places the emphasis first on understanding the underlying physical principles before proceeding to more complex models and algorithms. The reader will appreciate the authors’ accessible approach as the book is illustrated by over 400 diagrams and a large number of examples. Power System Dynamics: Stability and Control, Second Edition is an essential resource for graduates of electrical engineering. It is also a clear and comprehensive reference text for undergraduate students, and for practising engineers and researchers who are working in electricity companies or in the development of power system technologies.
Book Synopsis Computational Techniques of Rotor Dynamics with the Finite Element Method by : Arne Vollan
Download or read book Computational Techniques of Rotor Dynamics with the Finite Element Method written by Arne Vollan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than a century, we have had a firm grasp on rotor dynamics involving rigid bodies with regular shapes, such as cylinders and shafts. However, to achieve an equally solid understanding of the rotational behavior of flexible bodies—especially those with irregular shapes, such as propeller and turbine blades—we require more modern tools and methods. Computational Techniques of Rotor Dynamics with the Finite Element Method explores the application of practical finite element method (FEM)-based computational techniques and state-of-the-art engineering software. These are used to simulate behavior of rotational structures that enable the function of various types of machinery—from generators and wind turbines to airplane engines and propellers. The book’s first section focuses on the theoretical foundation of rotor dynamics, and the second concentrates on the engineering analysis of rotating structures. The authors explain techniques used in the modeling and computation of the forces involved in the rotational phenomenon. They then demonstrate how to interpret and apply the results to improve fidelity and performance. Coverage includes: Use of FEM to achieve the most accurate computational simulation of all gyroscopic forces occurring in rotational structures Details of highly efficient and accurate computational and numerical techniques for dynamic simulations Interpretation of computational results, which is instrumental to developing stable rotating machinery Practical application examples of rotational structures’ dynamic response to external and internal excitations An FEM case study that illustrates the computational complexities associated with modeling and computation of forces of rotor dynamics Assessment of propellers and turbines that are critical to the transportation and energy industries Useful to practicing engineers and graduate-level students alike, this self-contained volume also serves as an invaluable reference for researchers and instructors in this field. CRC Press Authors Speak Louis Komzsik introduces you to two books that share a common mathematical foundation, the finite element analysis technique. Watch the video.
