Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After all the four weddings, Rama, his brothers and parents went to Ayodhya. On the way they met Parasurama who acknowledged that Rama was superior to him. Rama’s coronation was stalled as Kaikeyi demanded Dasharatha to send Rama to the forest and anoint Bharatha king of Ayodhya. The king, Kausalya and many others were shocked. In spite of leading a sheltered life, Sita pledged her support to her husband. Lakshmana also joined them and together they left for the forest, reached Chitrakoota and later on they moved to Panchavati. It was here that Ravana cheated Rama and Lakshmana and abducted Sita. Lakshmana and Rama took the help of the vanaras, particularly Hanuman, killed Ravana and finally got back Sita. When challenged, Sita proved to Rama that she was as pure as ever. Everyone then proceeded to Ayodhya and Rama was crowned king. When some people again started doubting Sita’s fidelity, Rama sent her away to the forest. Sita was pregnant then and Valmiki took her under his care. By and by she gave birth to twin boys. When the sage asked Rama to accept her vouching for her purity as well, Rama again asked her to prove it to the people of Ayodhya. Sita prayed to Bhoomidevi who came and took her away. Sri Rama crowned Lava and Kusha kings and as desired by Brahmadeva, went back to his abode by entering the river Sarayu. The object of his incarnation was fulfilled. Book excerpt: The Ramayana is a pure epic dealing with a theme and characters who lived in Trethayuga. As one reads through this series of ten books, one finds the epic unfold in its various facets through the delineation of the characters that are featured. The steadfastness of Rama, the utter helplessness of a Dasharatha, a brother’s devotion as seen in Lakshmana, a devotee’s surrender as seen in Hanuman, the bitter rivalry between brothers Vali and Sugreeva and the repentance that follows- all this and more make for very interesting and enlightening reading. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Srila Sanatana Gosvami’s book Sri Brhad Bhagavatamrta is a gemlike `example of the quest genre, but different from the sort commonly encountered in fable and fiction. Narada and Gopa-kumara, the respective heroes of this book’s two parts, are searching for a key to fulfillment much subtler than wealth, influence, mundane love, the Fountain of Youth, or even the Holy Grail. Narada has vast experience of the cosmos, Gopa-kumara is illiterate and naive, yet they share the same vision of what is most valuable. What both want is not to conquer or exploit on any level, but to explore the mystery of selfless service. As Narada already knows, and Gopa-kumara will gradually learn, the superior mode of life they seek is personal and defined by the interplay of those who take part in it, rather than by material laws of nature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Esoteric Healing - Part 2, Stress Disorders: Amongst its many topics, this book includes expanded sections on healing with the Bach Flower Remedies, Alcoholism and Stress Disorder, including their treatments. For centuries men have sought healing, and obtained it, long before our methods of treatment were elaborated. The methods used then have remained esoteric or veiled and only the outer shell, mainly nonsensical, has survived for history to ridicule. In centuries to come men will also marvel at how we healed in our own day with so many drugs that were later put on the poison list. Now, for the first time, the field of the esoteric healer is being revealed by scientific devices. This field of operation for the esoteric healer is the etheric body, the vitalising matrix underlying all tissue described by contemporary yogis who, even at this moment, are revealing facts about man's nature which are not only able to be demonstrated in the neurophysiologic laboratories of such esteemed medical establishments as the Meninger Foundation at Topeka and the World Health Organisation, but facts which don't yet exist in our medical, physiology and anatomy textbooks. Animals suffer intense stress but do not die from coronaries, duodenal ulcers and hypertension because of it. Many a man will suffer stress persistently and not die from it. Disciples all suffer stress, but their disciplines enable them to thrive on such situations. Only those who are unable to cope or to receive feedback on their reactions to stress, or are unable to stop thinking about their troubles or believe themselves to be continuously subject to them, go down. The difference between all these is not physical; it is supraphysical. It lies in those realms whose laws are understood, obeyed and used by esoteric healers. After twenty-five years of patient research in the ways of Orthodox Medicine and its esoteric counterpart, I have no reason to change my firm belief that the cause of ninety per cent of all disease lies in the inability of Man to express himself according to the purposes of his own Soul whether he be aware of these purposes or not... the inability to express in his way of life Truth, Beauty and Goodness which, after all, is not saying anything new, for this was the belief of Socrates and Plato twenty-five centuries ago. What will eventually be practised as Preventive Medicine is already established, in great measure, in the daily living of students of esoteric sciences, i.e. care about diet and nutrition, breathing exercises, relaxation and meditation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archaeology has become implicated in the Ayodhya controversy. It has been claimed that archaeological evidence provides irrefutable proof of the existence of a Rama Temple at the site of Babri Masjid, and of the destruction of this temple by Babur. The author uses standard archaeological procedures to question the claim. He examines the structural and artefactual evidence and analyses the stratigraphic information of B. B. Lal s excavations. Exploring possible alternative interpretations of the available data, he concludes that there was no temple of stone or brick lying below the mosque, and that there is no evidence of any act of destruction. The book is a defence of archaeology against its political misuse. A cautious examination of the archaeological evidence reveals a great deal about the working of communal politics. The archaeological discoveries which are supposed to prove the demolition of a Rama temple by Babur actually show no more than the logic of a politics which destroyed the Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his latest book, the prolific writer and thinker Alphonso Lingis brings interdisciplinarity and lyrical philosophizing to the weight of reality, the weight of things, and the weight of life itself. Drawing from philosophy, anthropology, psychology, religion, and science, Lingis seeks to uncover what in our reality escapes our attempts at measuring and categorizing. Writing as much from his own experiences and those of others as from his longstanding engagement with phenomenology and existentialism, Irrevocable studies the world in which shadows, reflections, halos, and reverberations count as much as the carpentry of things. Whether describing religious art and ritual, suffering, war and disease, the pleasures of love, the wonders of nature, archaeological findings, surfing, volcanoes, or jellyfish, Lingis writes with equal measures of rigor and abandon about the vicissitudes of our practices and beliefs. Knowing that birth, the essential encounters in our lives, crippling diseases and accidents, and even death are all determined by chance, how do we recognize and understand such chance? After facing tragedies, what makes it possible to live on while recognizing our irrevocable losses? Lingis’s investigations are accompanied by his own vivid photographs from around the world. Balancing the local and the global, and ranging across vast expanses of culture and time, Irrevocable sounds the depths of both our passions and our impassioned bodies and minds.
