Download or read book Material Politics written by Andrew Barry and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-09-23 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Material Politics, author Andrew Barry reveals that as we are beginning to attend to the importance of materials in political life, materials has become increasingly bound up with the production of information about their performance, origins, and impact. Presents an original theoretical approach to political geography by revealing the paradoxical relationship between materials and politics Explores how political disputes have come to revolve not around objects in isolation, but objects that are entangled in ever growing quantities of information about their performance, origins, and impact Studies the example of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline – a fascinating experiment in transparency and corporate social responsibility – and its wide-spread negative political impact Capitalizes on the growing interdisciplinary interest, especially within geography and social theory, about the critical role of material artefacts in political life
Book Synopsis Computational Intelligence by : Kurosh Madani
Download or read book Computational Intelligence written by Kurosh Madani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-18 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book includes a set of selected extended papers from the second International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence (IJCCI 2010), held in Valencia, Spain, from 24 to 26 October 2010. The conference was composed by three co-located conferences: The International Conference on Fuzzy Computation (ICFC), the International Conference on Evolutionary Computation (ICEC), and the International Conference on Neural Computation (ICNC). Recent progresses in scientific developments and applications in these three areas are reported in this book. IJCCI received 236 submissions, from 49 countries, in all continents. After a double blind paper review performed by the Program Committee, only 30 submissions were accepted as full papers and thus selected for oral presentation, leading to a full paper acceptance ratio of 13%. Additional papers were accepted as short papers and posters. A further selection was made after the Conference, based also on the assessment of presentation quality and audience interest, so that this book includes the extended and revised versions of the very best papers of IJCCI 2010. Commitment to high quality standards is a major concern of IJCCI that will be maintained in the next editions, considering not only the stringent paper acceptance ratios but also the quality of the program committee, keynote lectures, participation level and logistics.

Book Synopsis Plant Breeding from Laboratories to Fields by : Sven Bode Andersen
Download or read book Plant Breeding from Laboratories to Fields written by Sven Bode Andersen and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2013-05-22 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breeding of crop plants to make them more adapted to human agricultural systems has been on-going during domestication the last 10 000 years. However, only recently with the invention of the Mendelian principles of genetics and the subsequent development of quantitative genetics during the twentieth century has such genetic crop improvement become based on a general theory. During the last 50 years plant breeding has entered a molecular era based on molecular tools to analyse DNA, RNA and proteins and associate such molecular results with plant phenotype. These marker trait associations develop fast to enable more efficient breeding. However, they still leave a major part of breeding to be performed through selection of phenotypes using quantitative genetic tools. The ten chapters of this book illustrate this development.

Book Synopsis Genome Size and Genetic Homogeneity of Regenerated Plants: Methods and Applications by : A. Mujib
Download or read book Genome Size and Genetic Homogeneity of Regenerated Plants: Methods and Applications written by A. Mujib and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-13 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference is a timely compilation of studies of genome size and genetic stability of regenerated plants. It presents 13 book chapters that cover recent advancements in CRISPR/Cas-based genome editing, the use of molecular markers to analyze somaclonal variation in tissue culture, and genetic stability assessment in various plant species, including medicinally valuable plants like Valeriana and Coffea. The book also highlights the role of flow cytometry in investigating polyploidy and provides valuable insights into genetic fidelity assessment of micropropagated woody plants and orchids. The contributors have shed light on the intra-specific and inter-specific genome and chromosome number variation with reference to gene duplication and DNA sequence loss. Molecular techniques for detecting ploidy levels and genetic homogeneity in regenerated plantlets are also discussed. Additional highlights of the book include brief guidelines for experimental protocols for flow cytometry and molecular markers, coverage of a wide range of plants, and supporting references. This is an excellent reference for biologists, geneticists, and plant scientists exploring genetic homogeneity and genome size variation in diverse plant groups.
