Book Synopsis University Governance in Canada by : Julia Eastman
Download or read book University Governance in Canada written by Julia Eastman and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2022-08-15 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Universities play essential roles in Canadian society. The internal and external governance of these complex institutions faces ever-evolving challenges within a rapidly shifting international context. Written by a national team of scholars, University Governance in Canada asks how institutional decisions are made and who is behind these choices. By exploring the historical evolution and regional contexts of Canadian universities, as well as current trends, the book gives readers deep insight into how these institutions are governed. The authors explore the tensions between academic governance, external and internal stakeholder expectations, and societal demands as they relate to higher education and research in Canada. Comprising a case study of six major universities, the book examines the dynamics of governance at the institutional, provincial, federal, and international levels and reveals how Canadian universities make decisions and how well they are equipped to meet current and future opportunities and challenges. Canadians invest a lot of money, time, hope, and expectations in their universities. University Governance in Canada gives policy-makers, scholars, governors, leaders at all levels, faculty, staff, students, and citizens at large knowledge and tools that will help ensure the country’s universities excel in their missions and deliver fully on these investments.
Book Synopsis Quantum Stochastics and Information by : V. P. Belavkin
Download or read book Quantum Stochastics and Information written by V. P. Belavkin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum stochastic calculus has become an indispensable tool in modern quantum physics, its effectiveness being illustrated by recent developments in quantum control which place the calculus at the heart of the theory. Quantum statistics is rapidly taking shape as an intrinsically quantum counterpart to classical statistics, motivated by advances in quantum engineering and the need for better statistical inference tools for quantum systems. This volume contains a selection of regular research articles and reviews by leading researchers in quantum control, quantum statistics, quantum probability and quantum information. The selection offers a unified view of recent trends in quantum stochastics, highlighting the common mathematical language of Hilbert space operators, and the deep connections between classical and quantum stochastic phenomena.

Book Synopsis Universities for Sale by : Neil Tudiver
Download or read book Universities for Sale written by Neil Tudiver and published by James Lorimer & Company. This book was released on 1999 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1990s Canadian universities experienced an aggressive campaign of corporatization. Universities for Sale offers suggestions on how to resist corporatization. Neil Tudiver shows how scholarly independence has, in recent years, been eroded to a point of crisis. Left unchecked, corporations play a larger and larger role in deciding which fields of study survive and which will disappear. He looks at how professors defend free inquiry against the pressures of economic expediency. Universities for Sale is a penetrating analysis of the ongoing issue of corporate influence on Canada's universities.

Book Synopsis New Challenges in Computational Collective Intelligence by : Radoslaw Katarzyniak
Download or read book New Challenges in Computational Collective Intelligence written by Radoslaw Katarzyniak and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-09-29 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collective intelligence has become one of major research issues studied by today’s and future computer science. Computational collective intelligence is understood as this form of group intellectual activity that emerges from collaboration and compe- tion of many artificial individuals. Robotics, artificial intelligence, artificial cognition and group working try to create efficient models for collective intelligence in which it emerges from sets of actions carried out by more or less intelligent individuals. The major methodological, theoretical and practical aspects underlying computational collective intelligence are group decision making, collective action coordination, collective competition and knowledge description, transfer and integration. Obviously, the application of multiple computational technologies such as fuzzy systems, evo- tionary computation, neural systems, consensus theory, knowledge representation etc. is necessary to create new forms of computational collective intelligence and support existing ones. Three subfields of application of computational technologies to support forms of collective intelligence are of special attention to us. The first one is semantic web treated as an advanced tool that increases the collective intelligence in networking environments. The second one covers social networks modeling and analysis, where social networks are this area of in which various forms of computational collective intelligence emerges in a natural way. The third subfield relates us to agent and mul- agent systems understood as this computational and modeling paradigm which is especially tailored to capture the nature of computational collective intelligence in populations of autonomous individuals.

Download or read book Computer-aided Analysis of Amorite written by Ignace Jay Gelb and published by Oriental Institute Press. This book was released on 1980 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Computer aided' is somewhat daunting in books dating from 1980 but the underlying purpose of this book, to provide linguistically ordered lists of 6,662 proper names excerpted from Sumerian and Akkadian texts, remains useful since most of our knowledge of the non-Akkadian Semitic dialect comes from these names.
Book Synopsis Anti-Zionism on Campus by : Doron S. Ben-Atar
Download or read book Anti-Zionism on Campus written by Doron S. Ben-Atar and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-30 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many scholars have endured the struggle against rising anti-Israel sentiments on college and university campuses worldwide. This volume of personal essays documents and analyzes the deleterious impact of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement on the most cherished Western institutions. These essays illustrate how anti-Israelism corrodes the academy and its treasured ideals of free speech, civility, respectful discourse, and open research. Nearly every chapter attests to the blurred distinction between anti-Israelism and antisemitism, as well as to hostile learning climates where many Jewish students, staff, and faculty feel increasingly unwelcome and unsafe. Anti-Zionism on Campus provides a testament to the specific ways anti-Israelism manifests on campuses and considers how this chilling and disturbing trend can be combatted.

Book Synopsis Isolated Rotor Noise Due to Inlet Distortion Or Turbulence by : Ramani Mani
Download or read book Isolated Rotor Noise Due to Inlet Distortion Or Turbulence written by Ramani Mani and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical formulation, analysis, and results are presented that are necessary to analyze quadrupole noise generated from a loaded, subsonic rotor because of its interaction with an inflow distortion or inlet turbulence. The ratio of quadrupole to dipole noise is largely a function of the axial Mach number, wheel tip Mach number, rotor solidity, and total pressure ratio across the rotor. It is relatively independent of the specific form of the inflow distortion or inlet turbulence. Comparisons with experimental data only succeed in predicting gross levels at a given speed and fail to predict the variation of noise at fixed speed with flow and pressure ratio. Likely sources of this discrepancy are discussed.
