Book Synopsis The Voice of El-Lil by : Robert E. Howard
Download or read book The Voice of El-Lil written by Robert E. Howard and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2015-02-12 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This early work by Robert E. Howard was originally published in 1930 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'The Voice of El-Lil' is one of Howard's short stories in the fantasy genre and a must read for fans of the Author. Robert Ervin Howard was born in Peaster, Texas in 1906. During his youth, his family moved between a variety of Texan boomtowns, and Howard - a bookish and somewhat introverted child - was steeped in the violent myths and legends of the Old South. At fifteen Howard began to read the pulp magazines of the day, and to write more seriously. The December 1922 issue of his high school newspaper featured two of his stories, 'Golden Hope Christmas' and 'West is West'. In 1924 he sold his first piece - a short caveman tale titled 'Spear and Fang' - for $16 to the not-yet-famous Weird Tales magazine. Howard's most famous character, Conan the Cimmerian, was a barbarian-turned-King during the Hyborian Age, a mythical period of some 12,000 years ago. Conan featured in seventeen Weird Tales stories between 1933 and 1936 which is why Howard is now regarded as having spawned the 'sword and sorcery' genre. The Conan stories have since been adapted many times, most famously in the series of films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The application of aerospace power has seen significant developments since 1994, most notably through American-led operations in Central Europe and continuing technological advances with weapons, uninhabited vehicles, space-based systems, and information systems. But notwithstanding those developments and the passing of six years, the value of this anthology of airpower in the twentieth century seems undiminished.

Book excerpt: This book presents the most current information on the treatment of athletes involved in gymnastics, a multifaceted sport with unique demands on its participants that can lead to a myriad of medical conditions and injury patterns. It opens with an introduction to the history of gymnastics and a brief review of gymnastics disciplines and events. An overview of gymnastics injury epidemiology lays the foundation for the rest of the book. Growth and developmental issues are also discussed in detail, as many young gymnasts train long hours before or during puberty. Concepts related to the biomechanics of gymnastics, common overuse and acute musculoskeletal injuries, psychological issues, concussions, as well as rehabilitation and return-to-play principles round out the presentation. Throughout, there is the emphasis that young athletes are not simply small adults, and that they have unique needs and considerations for evaluation and treatment. Written and edited by experts in the field, some of whom are former gymnasts themselves, Gymnastics Medicine covers all of the relevant information on evaluation, management and return-to-play for sports medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, physical therapists, athletic trainers, exercise scientists, and mental health professionals.

Book Synopsis Organised Retailing and Agri-Business by : N. Chandrasekhara Rao
Download or read book Organised Retailing and Agri-Business written by N. Chandrasekhara Rao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-07 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the performance of organized retail chains supplying the agri-input and output services in terms of achieving their objective of utilising collective bargaining power in the marketing of their agricultural produce, integrating empirical experience from India and other selected developing countries. The scenario of marketing for agricultural products has been undergoing rapid changes with the rise of organised retailing (the Indian term for ‘supermarkets’), a process that is likely to accelerate in years to come, with India being on the threshold of a supermarket revolution. In fact, India is referred to as the ‘final frontier’ in the development of supermarkets. The growth of supermarkets in India is faster than that in China, which is also witnessing an exponential growth as part of the “third wave” of supermarket diffusion. The book investigates the links between organised retailing and farmers and farming in India. Apart from raising issues of equity, inclusion and problems in policy framework, it also discusses policy interventions that are essential in order to make the development of organised retailing more inclusive and beneficial to the farming community and agricultural sector. The book further serves as a guide for policy makers, helping them to select the right kind of interventions to balance growth with equity as market forces penetrate deeper into the agricultural marketing space.

Book Synopsis Orchestrating Public Opinion by : Paul Christiansen
Download or read book Orchestrating Public Opinion written by Paul Christiansen and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orchestrating Public Opinion for the first time examines in detail music's persuasive role in political ads for US presidential campaigns. Studies on political ads tend to consider music something of an afterthought, innocuous accompaniment for a narrator. In this book Christiansen takes an opposing view, arguing that music is crucial to an ad's construction. In some cases, it is even determinative: that is, all other elements-images, voiceover, sound effects, written text, and so on-can be circumscribed by and interpreted in relation to music. This book presents for the first time correspondence between campaign officials and ad agencies, storyboards, and music scores related to ads such as Eisenhower's "I Like Ike" or Reagan's "Morning in America." Engaging music seriously through detailed musical analysis as well as exploring music's relation to visual and textual elements in ads, Orchestrating brings together disparate approaches toward understanding the surreptitious rhetoric of music.
Download or read book Futurism written by Lawrence S. Rainey and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1909, F.T. Marinetti published his incendiary Futurist Manifesto, proclaiming, “We stand on the last promontory of the centuries!!” and “There, on the earth, the earliest dawn!” Intent on delivering Italy from “its fetid cancer of professors, archaeologists, tour guides, and antiquarians,” the Futurists imagined that art, architecture, literature, and music would function like a machine, transforming the world rather than merely reflecting it. But within a decade, Futurism's utopian ambitions were being wedded to Fascist politics, an alliance that would tragically mar its reputation in the century to follow. Published to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the founding of Futurism, this is the most complete anthology of Futurist manifestos, poems, plays, and images ever to bepublished in English, spanning from 1909 to 1944. Now, amidst another era of unprecedented technological change and cultural crisis, is a pivotal moment to reevaluate Futurism and its haunting legacy for Western civilization.
