Book excerpt: A substantial body of research attests to religion's prominent influence on marital relationship quality. Aspects of religiosity that appear to enhance the quality of marital relationships include couples’ religious homogamy, prayer, religious involvement, spouses’ virtues, and sanctification of marriage. The couples reported studying the Scriptures to be beneficial in coping with life challenges and playing an important role in spouses’ conflict resolution. This study examines the association between marital satisfaction and biblical principles related to constructs such as forgiveness and commitment. It is assumed that relational virtues become relevant for marital quality as scriptural beliefs required by God. Spouses forgive and commit to their partner as a submission to God that works sanctification in their lives, impacting marital satisfaction. The quantitative survey method is used to assess the relationship between spouses’ scriptural beliefs, the faithfulness of their relationship with God, and marital satisfaction. The convenience sample is used to select 200 married Protestant Christians from the church members list to complete a Qualtrics survey. Multiple regressions analysis helps to illustrate how biblical beliefs relate to marital satisfaction. The study identifies scriptural beliefs that practitioners can utilize to help couples form and maintain well-functioning unions. Future research needs to search for more specific biblical beliefs that contribute to couples’ well-being and develop counseling programs for couples that nurture the manifestation of marital virtues through God’s sanctification process.

Book excerpt: Profound reflections on the cross that help you to meditate on and marvel at the sacrificial love of Jesus. This book can be used as a devotional, especially during Lent and Easter. These profound reflections on the cross from David Mathis, author of The Christmas We Didn’t Expect, will help you to meditate on and marvel at Jesus’ life, sacrificial death, and spectacular resurrection-enabling you to treasure anew who Jesus is and what he has done. Many of us are so familiar with the Easter story that it becomes easy to miss subtle details and difficult to really enjoy its meaning. This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.

The misuse of the marriage institution has brought misery instead of unconditional love, security, pleasure and fulfilment intended in the divine design. Is it possible for spouses to experience marital bliss and literally live happily ever after in today's world? Marriage As God Intended proclaims God's desire to bring peace in the troubled waters of marriage in our day with a rallying call: bring the Bible home to your marriage! By God's word marriage came into existence, and by His word alone will bachelors and spinsters enroll in the institution confidently and spouses experience lasting fulfilment. The satisfaction, ecstasy, and love we all crave for in marriage were programmed into our heads by the Originator of marriage with the expectation that His word will daily guide us into His presence-the fountain of all pleasure. So where do we start from in the journey to God's kind of marriage? Who is the ideal marriage partner, and how are they discovered? When does a relationship between a man and a woman qualify to be regarded as marriage? Many couples find themselves in marriages that are more of a curse than a blessing; how can one make such marriage work again? This book answers these questions and many more that will awaken even couples that rated their relationship very successful. David Lyall www.davidlyallphotography.com

This book was released on 2018-08-01 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theological exploration of Genesis 2 which renews our vision of the purpose of marriage as the central drama within God's salvation plan. Marriage seems increasingly irrelevant to many people today. But is this a true understanding of marriage? Could it be that God may have expectations for marriage which are distinct from our own, and wholly unaffected by our feelings or debates? If God is the author and definer of marriage, then we must look to the Author to discern its meaning rather than ourselves. The Genesis of Marriage sets out a biblical theology of marriage, grounded in the Marriage Text of Genesis 2:18-25, and investigates how it fits in its own context of Genesis 1 - 3 and the whole of Scripture. Examining the Marriage Text exegetically and theologically, Shenk shows this as the climax and conclusion of the two creation accounts, and explores what this reveals about the nature and character of God. The doctrinal implications of this are then explored, answering such practical questions such as, 'What are the ethics of marriage?' and 'How do we approach the real-world concerns of separation, divorce, and remarriage?'. Shenk's exploration helps dispel our modern disillusionment with marriage, or at least our ideas and beliefs about marriage which may be at odds with God's, to reveal deep truth about the nature and character of God.
