Book excerpt: This book is a collection of reflections, prompts, tools, and practical exercises to support your self-discovery, mental, emotional, physical well-being and healing in a sustainable way. What You'll Find Inside: ✔ An introduction to the myths in our modern understanding of the chakra system and alternative ways of thinking ✔ 7 chapters based on the ancient wisdom of the chakras to anchor your reflections and healing in various topics like emotional awareness, confidence, or belonging ✔ Everyday challenges & exercises to widen your understanding of your yoga practice and integrate seamlessly into your daily life ✔ Illustrations by artist Katya Uspenkaya Author's Note From a very early age, I’ve felt like the world was spinning too fast. I was always playing catchup and going against my inner, natural pace. Yoga for me became a way to connect with my intuitive rhythm. It has taught me again and again about what it means to simply be, with myself and with the world around me. After a while, I started wondering if I could stay as present in everyday challenges and happenings as I was when I was moving and breathing in my asana practice. I’d started on a yoga mat but my practice never felt quite powerful enough to infiltrate all areas of my life. Why was it so difficult to say no to things I didn’t want to do when I’d been learning about that in my physical practice? Why would I not let myself “flow” in my creative projects as much as my breath during meditation? This book is part of my journey of discovering how yoga can truly be a practice of every day, every hour, every minute. It is a collection of my attempts at putting together building blocks of awareness, so I always find pockets of connection whether I’m sitting on a loud train, cooking a meal, or deep into my email inbox. I hope you find comfort and ways to cultivate confidence through these pages. May the reflections and practice build the freedom and intuition you need to let the wonderful practice of yoga take the shape it needs to serve you and your communities. With love and curiosity, Ely

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Grant, Lord, that I may know myself that I may know thee." —Augustine Much is said in Christian circles about knowing God. But Christians throughout the ages have agreed that there cannot be deep knowledge of God without deep knowledge of the self. Discerning your true self is inextricably related to discerning God's purposes for you. Paradoxically, the more you become like Christ, the more you become authentically yourself. In this profound exploration of Christian identity, psychologist and spiritual director David G. Benner illuminates the spirituality of self-discovery. He exposes the false selves that you may hide behind and calls you to discover the true self that emerges from your uniqueness in Christ. Freeing you from illusions about yourself, Benner shows that self-understanding leads to the fulfillment of your God-given destiny and vocation. Rest assured, you need not try to be someone you are not. But you will deepen your experience of God through discovering the gift of being yourself. This expanded edition, one of three titles in The Spiritual Journey trilogy, includes a new epilogue and an experiential guide with questions for individual reflection or group discussion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being human is a lifelong journey of becoming. This journey defines our humanity, for it is a journey toward our source and our fulfillment, described in Christian theology as union with God. If we remain open to God as our sense of self awakens, we experience a deeper consciousness of being in him. The self that emerges during this process is larger, more enlightened, and whole. David Benner, who has spent thirty-five years integrating psychology and spirituality, presents psychological insights in a readable fashion to offer readers a deeper understanding of the self and its spiritual development. Drawing on a broad range of Christian traditions, Benner shows that the transformation of self is foundational to Christian spirituality. This book will appeal to readers interested in a psychologically grounded, fresh exploration of Christian spirituality; professionals engaged in pastoral care, counseling, and spiritual direction; and students in ministry development and spiritual formation courses. Questions and answers for individual or group use are included at the end of each chapter.

Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "THE INNER SECRET - That something within" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. "Looking backward over the space of nearly sixty years, and reconstructing in my memory the thoughts and incidents of my boyhood from the age of ten until I was well advanced into my "teens", I can now see that I was always a seeker after a something but dimly defined in my mind but which represented a distinct "want" of my nature. That something so early sought after may be said to have been of the nature of an "Inner Secret" of successful achievement and personal power. just why I should have come to the conclusion that there really existed an Inner Secret of Success and Personal Power—a something which when once known enabled one to achieve successful results in whatever was undertaken by him—I do not know. Perhaps it was the manifestation of an intuition; perhaps it was the result of a suggestion which I had absorbed from reading. At any rate I now see that the idea had become fixed in my consciousness, and that it colored all my youthful thought." - THE QUEST, The Inner Secret William Walker Atkinson (1862-1932) was a prolific writer. His works treat themes related to the mental world, occultism, divination, psychic reality, and mankind's nature. They constitute a basis for what Atkinson called "New Psychology" or "New Thought".

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charism is a hot contemporary issue. The growing interest in the charisms is one of the significant religious developments of our time. Opinions on charisms vary to a remarkable degree. Unfortunately, in some cases, diverse viewpoints have led to confusion among Christians. On the positive side though, this developing interest in charisms has contributed to spiritual renewal and stimulated biblical research in this most important area of the Church's life. The exponential growth of the Charismatic/Pentecostal Movement throughout the world and especially in Africa urged led to choice of this topic on charisms. In the Charismatic/Pentecostal Movements the issue of charisms is very vital and extremely important. It is at the centre of its spirituality and practice. This Movement has spread to almost all major Christian confessions/denominations and continues to attract many followers. This work is unique among the many studies written on the charisms. Even though the subject of charisms has received some scholarly attention, most have not delved into the role of the charisms in the Church from Pauline perspective as this study does. The following observations and reasons demonstrate that it is still meaningful and worthwhile to study charisms in Pauline letters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, North Americans and Western Europeans identify as 'spiritual but not religious'. But what does 'spirituality' actually mean? And what does this recent 'spiritual turn' reveal about the nature of twenty-first century liberal democracies? Secularization theorists argue that spirituality lacks institutional support and a shared tradition, thereby evincing religious decline. Meanwhile, critical commentators contend that the spiritual turn embodies all of the ills of post-1960s liberal democracies. This book challenges these popular misconceptions. Combining cultural sociology with intellectual history and political philosophy, and drawing from first-hand interview and fieldwork data, along with discourse analysis of best-selling books, it shows that rather than reflecting religious decline, the spiritual turn marks the rise of an enduring cultural structure in Western modernity-the religion of the heart. Tracing the religion of the heart to the 1960s, The Spiritual Turn illuminates its elective affinities with the romantic liberal social imaginary that crystallized in popular consciousness during this era, and transformed the institutional spheres of Western liberal democracies, eventually giving birth to a new social order-romantic liberal modernity. Then, inspired by the Durkheimian tradition, it presents case studies of three sites where the religion of the heart is institutionalized in a specific discursive form-a Twelve Step group, a neo-Pentecostal church, and a Toastmasters public speaking club. The book concludes that while critics may have reason to disparage both spirituality and romantic liberal modernity more generally, the reality is far more complex than their criticisms suggest-and more importantly, far less hopeless.
