Comings and published by Hope Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 2 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. David Comings, an internationally renowned physician, human geneticist and neuroscientist, proposes that spirituality is genetically hardwired into a specific part of the brain, is pleasurable, is critical to the evolution and survival of man, and will never go away. It strives to allow readers to develop a rational spirituality in which the fact-based rational brain and the faith-based spiritual brain can live in peace. In an era when politicians are judged on the basis of the strength of their belief in God, when schools are urged to teach Intelligent Design, and when religious terrorists threaten the existence of Western civilization it is critical to dispassionately examine the question - Did man create God? A wide range of issues are examined including intelligent answers to intelligent design; the relevance of modern cosmology to the existence or non-existence of god; the role of genes in spirituality; innate morality, the problem of evil, and many others. Michael Shermer called this the most detailed and up-to-date science ever generated on the subject of religion and suggested it will be the definitive scientific reference on religion for some time to come. This book is for those who have also questioned any part of their faith but treasure their spirituality and want answers that are not hostile to spirituality or religion.

With a goal of transcendent awareness, John Shea presents this commentary on the Sunday Gospel readings for those who are drawn to the spiritual wisdom of the Gospels. Ideal for Christian preachers and teachers, and Christians who meditate on the Gospels, Shea's book takes a literary-spiritual approach. He analyzes the mindsets of characters and how Jesus complimented, critiqued, praised these mindsets, to inspire meditation, reflection, and spiritual development. Eating with the Bridegroom, Year B is the second book of a four-volume set, The Spiritual Wisdom of the Gospels for Christian Preachers and Teachers. This set is a lectionary-based resource that references both Roman Catholic and Revised Common Lectionaries, making it useful and interesting to various Christian denominations. A Scripture index makes Shea's insightful reflections accessible for personal reflection on the Gospel texts as well as other uses outside of liturgical preparation. With wisdom relevant to our contemporary world, The Spiritual Wisdom of the Gospels for Christian Preachers and Teachers: Eating with the Bridegroom will find its way to the top of your resource list. John Shea, STD, is a theologian, author, and storyteller who lectures nationally and internationally on storytelling in world religions, faith-based health care, contemporary spirituality, and the spirit at work movement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TO FIND ONESELF IN THE DUALITY OF CONTRADICTIONS, ONE MUST FIRST LEARN TO KNOW ONESELF. THIS HOWEVER IS NOT A NATURAL PROCESS As contemporary human beings, we exist in a one- and two-dimensional world, of fearful desire for food, wealth, sex, recognition, and immortality. Unaware of its illusory state, where perception manifests our reality, we are equally unaware of our own hybrid state: As beings of physical and metaphysical features for which, the attainment of the Higher Dimensions is our very birthright. This ‘attainment’ does not come naturally though; it requires our awareness of the conceptual world, as well as the acceptance of our conditioned mechanicalness within it. These observations and contemplations aim to offer such awareness, and to enhance the Seeker of Truth with the means to discover, understand and accept his or her undivided Self. This book combines philosophy, including gnostic thought, religion, as well as the observed psychology and sociology of contemporary ways, within the arenas of politics, geopolitics and corporatism, through the lens of spirituality and magic. It is this that defines the supernatural wonders into which the Seeker of Truth must cross his or her own threshold. As with all things of substance, the answer to these mysteries, will not be found in selected subjects or even the sum of their parts – as in such, one only finds Chaos. It is only in knowing the Whole of the Self that complete acceptance of All can emerge.

Book excerpt: In Spiritual Healing ...of Our Eternal Souls for all Time! the author tackles the question of universal karma/original sin and how we may free ourselves from that, not just in the eternal sense but in the present moment. As American writer Henry David Thoreau stated, "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them." It is the present moment the author wants to address and in so doing, he contends, the eternal takes care of itself. The author presents this writing as a foundational shift (a recalibration of our very souls!) that transcends our current religions and philosophies both East and West. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Women, Men, and Spiritual Power, John Coakley explores male-authored narratives of the lives of Catherine of Siena, Hildegard of Bingen, Angela of Foligno, and six other female prophets or mystics of the late Middle Ages. His readings reveal the complex personal and literary relationships between these women and the clerics who wrote about them. Coakley's work also undermines simplistic characterizations of male control over women, offering an important contribution to medieval religious history. Coakley shows that these male-female relationships were marked by a fundamental tension between power and fascination: the priests and monks were supposed to hold authority over the women entrusted to their care, but they often switched roles, as the men became captivated with the women's spiritual gifts. In narratives of such women, the male authors reflect directly on the relationship between the women's powers and their own. Coakley argues that they viewed these relationships as gendered partnerships that brought together female mystical power and male ecclesiastical authority without placing one above the other. Women, Men, and Spiritual Power chronicles a wide-ranging experiment in the balance of formal and informal powers, in which it was assumed to be thoroughly imaginable for both sorts of authority, in their distinctly gendered terms, to coexist and build on each other. The men's writings reflect an extended moment in western Christianity when clerics had enough confidence in their authority to actually question its limits. After about 1400, however, clerics underwent a crisis of confidence, and such a questioning of institutional power was no longer considered safe. Instead of seeing women as partners, their revelatory powers began to be viewed as evidence of witchcraft.
