Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of a convected field of turbulence with a shock wave has been analyzed to yield the modified turbulence, entropy spotiness, and noise generated downstream of the shock. This analysis generalizes the results of Technical Note 2864, which apply to a single spectrum component, to give the shock-interaction effects of a complete turbulence field. The previous report solved the basic gas-dynamic problem, and the present report has added the necessary spectrum analysis.

Book Synopsis Noise Sources in Turbulent Shear Flows: Fundamentals and Applications by : Roberto Camussi
Download or read book Noise Sources in Turbulent Shear Flows: Fundamentals and Applications written by Roberto Camussi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-11 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The articles in this volume present the state-of-the-art in noise prediction, modeling and measurement. The articles are partially based on class notes provided during the course `Noise sources in turbulent shear flows', given at CISM on April 2011. The first part contains general concepts of aero acoustics, including vortex sound theory and acoustic analogies, in the second part particular emphasis is put into arguments of interest for engineers and relevant for aircraft design: jet noise, airfoil broadband noise, boundary layer noise (including interior noise and its control) and the concept of noise sources, their theoretical modeling and identification in turbulent lows. All these arguments are treated extensively with the inclusion of many practical examples and references to engineering applications.

Download or read book Instability, Transition, and Turbulence written by M.Y. Hussaini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Workshop on In stability, Transition and Turbulence, sponsored by the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) and the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), during July 8 to August 2, 1991. This is the second workshop in the series on the subject. The first was held in 1989, and its proceedings were published by Springer-Verlag under the title "Instability and Transition" edited by M. Y. Hussaini and R. G. Voigt. The objectives of these work shops are to i) expose the academic community to current technologically im portant issues of transition and turbulence in shear flows over the entire speed range, ii) acquaint the academic community with the unique combination of theoretical, computational and experimental capabilities at LaRC and foster interaction with these capabilities, and iii) accelerate progress in elucidating the fundamental phenomena of transition and turbulence, leading to improved transition and turbulence modeling in design methodologies. The research areas covered in these proceedings include receptiv ity and roughness, nonlinear theories of transition, numerical simu lation of spatially evolving flows, modelling of transitional and fully turbulent flows as well as some experiments on instability and tran sition. In addition a one-day mini-symposium was held to discuss 1 recent and planned experiments on turbulent flow over a backward facing step.

Book Synopsis Axially Symmetric Shapes with Minimum Wave Drag by : Maxwell Alfred Heaslet
Download or read book Axially Symmetric Shapes with Minimum Wave Drag written by Maxwell Alfred Heaslet and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The external wave drag of bodies of revolution moving at supersonic speeds can be expressed either in terms of the geometry of the body, or in terms of the body-simulating axial source distribution. For purposes of deriving optimum bodies under various given condtions, it is found that the second of the methods mentioned is the more tractable. By use of a quasi-cylindrical theory, that is, the boundary conditions are applied on the surface of a cylinder rather than on the body itself, the variational problems of the optimum bodies having prescribed volume or caliber are solved. The streamwise variations of cross-section area and drags of the bodies are exhibited, and some numerical results are given. The solutions are found to depend upon a single parameter involving Mach number and radius-lenght ration of the given cylinder. Variation of this parameter from zero to infinity gives the spectrum of optimum bodies with the given condition from the slender-body result of the two-dimensional. The numerical results show that for increasing values of the parameter, the optimum shapes quickly approach the two-dimensional.
