Book Synopsis Signal Treatment and Signal Analysis in NMR by : D.N. Rutledge
Download or read book Signal Treatment and Signal Analysis in NMR written by D.N. Rutledge and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-06-10 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Signal analysis and signal treatment are integral parts of all types of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. In the last ten years, much has been achieved in the development of dimensional spectra. At the same time new NMR techniques such as NMR Imaging and multidimensional spectroscopy have appeared, requiring entirely new methods of signal analysis. Up until now, most NMR texts and reference books limited their presentation of signal processing to a short introduction to the principles of the Fourier Transform, signal convolution, apodisation and noise reduction. To understand the mathematics of the newer signal processing techniques, it was necessary to go back to the primary references in NMR, chemometrics and mathematics journals. The objective of this book is to fill this void by presenting, in a single volume, both the theory and applications of most of these new techniques to Time-Domain, Frequency-Domain and Space-Domain NMR signals. Details are provided on many of the algorithms used and a companion CD-ROM is also included which contains some of the computer programs, either as source code or in executable form. Although it is aimed primarily at NMR users in the medical, industrial and academic fields, it should also interest chemometricians and programmers working with other techniques.
Book Synopsis X-Ray Spectroscopy in Atomic and Solid State Physics by : J. Gomes Ferreira
Download or read book X-Ray Spectroscopy in Atomic and Solid State Physics written by J. Gomes Ferreira and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fields of X-Ray Spectroscopy in Atomic and Solid State Physics have undergone spectacular growth, sometimes rather anarchic, during the past decade. The old mold of X-ray spectroscopy has been burst, and this ASI provided an in-depth exploration of theory and recently developed techniques; however, some work still needs to be done to create a new frame and reduce anarchy in the field. The purpose of this Institute was to gather atomic and solid state physicists working in theoretical and new experimental techniques recently developed. The lectures were concerned with, among others, the following fields: theory of X-ray near-edge structure, XPS and AES with conventional and synchrotron radiation sources, PIXE, EXAFS, SEXAFS, XRF, SXS, and molecular spectroscopy. The Institute considered in detail some of these experimental tech niques and the pertinent theoretical interpretations by selecting an important list of lectures which summarize the scientific contents of the ASI. The truly international character of this NATO ASI, its size, and the high quality of the lecturers contributed to make this school a very fruitful scientific meeting. Two to four general lectures were given each working day and three afternoons were reserved for presentation of current work in the form of posters. We think that these poster presentations reflect the current research work of the participants.

Book excerpt: "Optical Properties of 3d-Ions in Crystals: Spectroscopy and Crystal Field Analysis" discusses spectral, vibronic and magnetic properties of 3d-ions in a wide range of crystals, used as active media for solid state lasers and potential candidates for this role. Crystal field calculations (including first-principles calculations of energy levels and absorption spectra) and their comparison with experimental spectra, the Jahn-Teller effect, analysis of vibronic spectra, materials science applications are systematically presented. The book is intended for researchers and graduate students in crystal spectroscopy, materials science and optical applications. Dr. N.M. Avram is an Emeritus Professor at the Physics Department, West University of Timisoara, Romania; Dr. M.G. Brik is a Professor at the Institute of Physics, University of Tartu, Estonia.
Book Synopsis Vibrational Spectra: Principles and Applications with Emphasis on Optical Activity by : P.L. Polavarapu
Download or read book Vibrational Spectra: Principles and Applications with Emphasis on Optical Activity written by P.L. Polavarapu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-09-17 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book originated out of a desire to combine topics on vibrational absorption, Raman scattering, vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and Raman optical activity (VROA) into one source. The theoretical details of these processes are presented in ten different chapters. Using dispersive and Fourier transform techniques, the instrumentation involved in these spectral measurements are given in three chapters. Major emphasis is placed on the newer techniques, i.e. VCD and VROA, with the conventional vibrational absorption and vibrational Raman scattering methods incorporated as natural parts of the newer methods. Features of this book: • Comprehensive coverage of vibrational circular dichroism and vibrational Raman optical activity. • Coverage of theoretical and instrumental details. • A comprehensive survey of VCD and VROA applications is included, so that the reader can get an overview of theory, instrumentation and applications in one source. The topics covered are of an advanced level, which makes this book invaluable for graduate students and practising scientists in vibrational spectroscopy.

Book Synopsis Electronic and Vibronic Spectra of Transition Metal Complexes II by : Hartmut Yersin
Download or read book Electronic and Vibronic Spectra of Transition Metal Complexes II written by Hartmut Yersin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-07-16 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unique properties and applications of transition metal compounds have long fascinated both physicists and chemists. This volume presents theoretical and experimental studies for a deeper understanding of the electronic and vibronic properties of these compounds. In particular, an introduction into properties of spin sublevels of dd*, dÂ*, and ÂÂ* states is given, and a modern ligand field theory based on the Angular Overlap Model is presented. In experimental case studies it is shown how to characterize different types of electronic transitions using modern methods of laser spectroscopy. Consequences of spin-orbit coupling, zero-field splittings, spin-lattice relaxations, chromophore-matrix interactions, Herzberg-Teller/Franck-Condon activities, and localization/delocalization properties are treated.
