Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA DEMANDE DE MONNAIE ET LA STABILITE DE CETTE DEMANDE, NOTAMMENT A COURT TERNE, OCCUPENT UNE PLACE CENTRALE DANS LA THEORIE MONETAIRE ET DANS LA CONDUITE DE LA POLITIQUE CONJONCTURELLE. LA REMISE EN CAUSE PARTIELLE DE LA STABILITE DE LA FONCTION DE DEMANDE DE MONNAIE A COURT TERME DANS LES DERNIERES ANNEES ET DANS CERTAINS PAYS A DONNE NAISSANCE A UN IMPORTANT EFFORT DE RECHERCHE. LE BUT ESSENTIEL DE NOTRE ETUDE CONSISTE A MESURER EMPIRIQUEMENT LE COMPORTEMENT DE LA FONCTION DE DEMANDE DE MONNAIE A COURT TERME DURANT LES VINGT DERNIERES ANNEES ET DANS LES PRINCIPAUX PAYS INDUSTRIALISES : LES ETATS-UNIS, LA FRANCE, LE JAPON, LA R.F.A. ET LE ROYAUME-UNI. NOTRE ANALYSE S'ARTICULE AUTOUR D'UNE REVUE DE LA LITTERATURE CONCERNANT LES THEORIES RELATIVES A LA DEMANDE DE MONNAIE, EN PARTICULIER SA SPECIFICATION ET SA STABILITE, ET DE LA MISE EN OEUVRE DE TESTS TELS QUE CELUI DE CHOW AINSI QUE DE NOUVELLES TECHNIQUES ECONOMIQUES : TEST DE "SWITCHING REGIMES", TESTS DE "CUSUM" ET DE "CUSUM" OF SQUARES", ET MODELE "ARCH". LES RESULTATS DES TESTS MONTRENT QUE LES FONCTIONS DE DEMANDE DE MONNAIE ONT DES COMPORTEMENTS RELATIVEMENT HOMOGENES BIEN QU'IL EXISTE DES NUANCES INSTITUTIONNELLES ENTRE LES PAYS. A L'EXCEPTION DU CAS DES ETATS-UNIS, POUR LE QUEL LES TESTS CONCLUENT A UNE CERTAINE INSTABILITE, IL N'EST PAS POSSIBLE DE REJETER L'HYPOTHESE DE LA STABILITE DE LA FONCTION DE DEMANDE DE MONNAIE A COURT TERME TANT SUR COURTES QUE SUR LONGUES PERIODES. LA STABILITE A COURT TERME DE LA FONCTION DE DEMANDE DE MONNAIE OFFRANT LA POSSIBILITE DE PREVOIR L'EFFET DE L'IMPACT D'UNE VARIATION DE L'OFFRE DE MONNAIE SUR L'ECONOMIE, IL APPARAIT SOUHAITABLE D'AVOIR UNE POLITIQUE MONETAIRE FIXANT LA MASSE MONETAIRE COMME CIBLE INTERMEDIAIRE POUR ASSURER LA STABILITE DE L'ECONOMIE.

Book Synopsis The Demand for Money by : Apostolos Serletis
Download or read book The Demand for Money written by Apostolos Serletis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost half a century has elapsed since the demand for money began to attract widespread attention from economists and econometricians, and it has been a topic of ongoing controversy and research ever since. Interest in the topic stemmed from three principal sources. First of all, there was the matter of the internal dynamics of macroeco nomics, to which Harry Johnson drew attention in his 1971 Ely Lecture on "The Keynesian Revolution and the Monetarist Counter-Revolution," American Economic Review 61 (May 1971). The main lesson about money that had been drawn from the so-called "Keynesian Revolution" was - rightly or wrongly - that it didn't matter all that much. The inherited wisdom that undergraduates absorbed in the 1950s was that macroeconomics was above all about the determination of income and employment, that the critical factors here were saving and investment decisions, and that monetary factors, to the extent that they mattered at all, only had an influence on these all important variables through a rather narrow range of market interest rates. Conventional wisdom never goes unchallenged in economics, except where its creators manage to control access to graduate schools and the journals, and it is with no cynical intent that I confirm Johnson's suggestion that those of us who embarked on academic careers in the '60s found in this wisdom a ready-made target.

Book Synopsis Modern Dogma and the Rhetoric of Assent by : Wayne C. Booth
Download or read book Modern Dogma and the Rhetoric of Assent written by Wayne C. Booth and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1974-10-15 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When should I change my mind? What can I believe and what must I doubt? In this new "philosophy of good reasons" Wayne C. Booth exposes five dogmas of modernism that have too often inhibited efforts to answer these questions. Modern dogmas teach that "you cannot reason about values" and that "the job of thought is to doubt whatever can be doubted," and they leave those who accept them crippled in their efforts to think and talk together about whatever concerns them most. They have willed upon us a "befouled rhetorical climate" in which people are driven to two self-destructive extremes—defenders of reason becoming confined to ever narrower notions of logical or experimental proof and defenders of "values" becoming more and more irresponsible in trying to defend the heart, the gut, or the gonads. Booth traces the consequences of modernist assumptions through a wide range of inquiry and action: in politics, art, music, literature, and in personal efforts to find "identity" or a "self." In casting doubt on systematic doubt, the author finds that the dogmas are being questioned in almost every modern discipline. Suggesting that they be replaced with a rhetoric of "systematic assent," Booth discovers a vast, neglected reservoir of "good reasons"—many of them known to classical students of rhetoric, some still to be explored. These "good reasons" are here restored to intellectual respectability, suggesting the possibility of widespread new inquiry, in all fields, into the question, "When should I change my mind?"
