Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Social Factors Affecting Special Supervision in the Public Schools of the United States The increase in the number of subjects for instruction in the public school curriculum within recent years has been marked. Many of these subj ects have been introduced into the schools by means of special teachers or supervisors. The administra tive adjustment to this situation has been accompanied by no little difficulty. Special teachers and supervisors have multiplied until it is no uncommon thing to find a single city employing such specialists in a half dozen subjects, including music, draw ing, physical education, manual training, domestic science and penmanship. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Country School Movements, Ana Ideals in South Carolina, Vol. 2 To the State Superintendent and State Board of Education. Gentlemen: June 30th completed the third year of my work as State Supervisor of Rural Schools. The fact that my position is a comparatively new one in South Carolina and that there are still many people in the State who may wish to know the scope of its activities induces me to describe somewhat in detail the methods of work which have been pursued during the year. My office has little to do with statistics or fiscal statements concerning the rural schools. These are found in the general report of the State Superintendent of Education. It is not possible to state with any exactness the tangible results of the work which has been undertaken. There arc many forces now co-operating for the upbuilding of the country school in South Carolina. It is the privilege of the State Supervisor of Rural Schools to work as one of these forces. It is impossible to tabulate the results accomplished in any one year, to forecast the ultimate harvest of our united labors, or to say who is responsible for any special achievement. We are all workers together for the common good. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: This bulletin contains abstracts of the addresses delivered at a two-day conference of State and county rural-school supervisors in the Southeastern States, called by the United States Commissioner of Education, at Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tennessee, December 14 and 15, 1925. Abstracts were prepared from notes or manuscripts submitted by the authors. The conference was attended by approximately 100 rural educational workers, most of whom are engaged in State and county supervision. The States represented are Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The United States Bureau of Education was represented by two members of the staff of the Division of Rural Education. Download or read book The Supervision of Instruction (Classic Reprint) written by Hubert Wilbur Nutt and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Supervision of Instruction The following discussion and analysis of the elements of the supervisory process, and statement of the technique and professional standards for the supervision of instruction, will be read with interest by those who are concerned with the work of school supervision. The author of the volume is a school supervisor of experience, who has been unusually successful in training young people for the teaching service. Training novices for success in teaching is even more difficult work than that of a school principal or superintendent in initiating new or poorly experienced teachers into the work of a city-school system. Out of his experience he has worked out the following analytical discussion of the principles underlying classroom supervision, and the devices and technique which should, and which should not be employed. The fundamental purpose of all school supervision is to increase the efficiency of the classroom teacher. School supervision is worthy of the name only when it results in such an increase. Supervisors who conceive their function to be that of an inspector, and who go about checking up work accomplished and locating those who do not follow directions, are worth little.
