Book excerpt: 'Soul Chants' is a diverse selection of discourses of esotericisms, which covers life from the soul, as it travels through the garden of lifes thorns, from the seed to the pod. Spiritual and philosophical, these discourses capture profoundness with soul searching topics that every soul should feel, and relate to, as it passes through the waterfall of its own awakening, from birth to death. This Northern Irish prophetic medium, Adrian mc Grath utilizes his metaphysical awareness to enwrap himself, within these discourses, as they touch the basis of the soul, "especially the question and answer session" due to the form and depth of conveyance. As the dictation of structure touches your inner essence, you become enveloped within the flow, as a new world of inner vision opens up, and it leads you on a path of inner connection. As you become wrapped within these words of ancient, thought provoking discourses, where the beauty of the spirit is actually felt, allowing one to look within. As the soul finds it's rose, alongside the thorns of life, as petals unfold to the beauty of you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Touched by Angels of Mercy contains small doses of genuine life, from nurses, patients and caregivers, that touch the heart and foster healing. This collection of short stories and poems, interspersed with tasteful cartoons, contains helpful resource information, as well as a brief biography of each contributing author. Many of the works in this collection offer a glimpse into the nurse-patient relationship, as seen through the eyes of the patient, nurse or family member. Some of the stories reveal caregiving scenarios taken from brief moments in history, behind prison walls or even on a golf course. Anyone may be labeled an "Angel of Mercy." This term is not exclusive to nurses. Our world needs the healing "angels" who come to us in a variety of forms, when and where we least expect them. At some time in our lives, each one of us will encounter illness, pain and death. Along with it will come the need for a helping hand and the gentle, caring touch of an "angel of mercy." Everyone has the ability to be courageous, tenacious and loving. When people are hurting, whether from illness, injury or other reasons, they have the instinctive need to be touched and nurtured. People also have the need and desire to share their experiences with others. This process of sharing is frequently healthful and therapeutic. The strength, knowledge and inspiration that comes from recounting personal life and death experiences with one another stimulates healing. The profession of nursing deals with the prevention of illness, as well as the care and rehabilitation of the sick. Although it takes a special person to answer this "calling," today?s nurses are vastly different from those of yesteryear. The changing world of healthcare has created unique challenges and added pressures for nursing, but it has also created new frontiers. In addition, there is a growing number of caregivers in our society. Caregivers often feel isolated, apprehensive, exhausted and overwhelmed. They desperately need relief as well as ongoing support. Nurses and caregivers reach out and become "angels" for others. They are compassionate, intelligent and caring beings that provide hands-on care to help the sick to heal, or comfort them as they die. Nurses and caregivers are not invincible; they also need to take care of themselves. The need to be touched by another, and to share personal experiences, are universal human requirements. The strength, knowledge and inspiration that comes from recounting personal life and death experiences stimulates healing. Wounds heal from the inside out--so does the heart and soul. Writing these stories has been a therapeutic experience for our authors, and for some, an extremely difficult task. It is our hope that by reading and sharing these real-life, personal experiences, you too will be touched, inspired and healed.

Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1935, collects together material on the origins of religion from two very different sources. South America, where the author spent six years studying the religious beliefs and customs of several Indian tribes representing different stages of culture; and the Finno-Ugrian area, where Finnish and Russian ethnologists had brought to light a new body of facts which formed an important addition to our knowledge of religious life at an early stage of cultural development. This book is a key work in the study of comparative religion, and is an essential reference source on the origins of religion.

Book excerpt: When Dr. Romana Guarnieri, in a letter to Osservatore Romano (16 June 1946), announced her discovery that Margaret Porette (d. 1 June 1310) was the author of The Mirror of Simple Souls, certainly a major French document of pre-Reformation spirituality, a sensation was created in the academic world. Although The Mirror is one of the few heretical documents to have survived the Middle Ages in its entirety, both its title and its authorship were among the most persistent and troublesome problems of scholarly research in the field of medieval vernacular languages. The Mirror, in its original French, survives only in the fifteenth-century manuscript which the great Condé (Louis II de Bourbon) had acquired for his palace at Chantilly. And, so far as can be known, all that remains with which to compare the readings of this manuscript text are those translations of The Mirror which, also in manuscript, are to be found in Latin, Italian, and Middle English. This edition of The Mirror of Simple Souls is a translation from the French original with interpretive essays by Edmund Colledge, O.S.A., Judith Grant, and J.C. Marler, and a foreword by Kent Emery, Jr. The translators of this Modern English version rely primarily on the French, yet take other medieval translations into account. As a result, this edition offers a reading of The Mirror which solves a number of difficulties found in the French, and the introductions contributed by the translators narrate the archival history of the book, for which Margaret Porette was burned alive in Paris in 1310.

These things all make Christmas wonderful and have a part to play in some way. But the most important thing, the reason for the season, the one and only person whom it is all about, is the Lord and King, Jesus Christ. It is because of him, and him alone, that we celebrate Christmas. His Love, His Joy, His Peace surrounds us all the time, but most extraordinarily at Christmas time. He is the Light of the World, the bread of Life and the one who came to bring us abundant life. Without a heart beating, life is nothing. If Christ is missing, Christmas is nothing.

Book excerpt: “When the Spirit of Adventure Calls to our Heart, we must go.” This quote, written in memory of Mark Auricht who died on Mt Everest in 2001, reminds us of our enduring connection with nature and the magnetic attraction of adventure. It not only enlivens our soul, but also has the power to draw from within us, a strength, courage, resilience and passion that for some lies dormant until awakened. Beyond the story of triumph and tragedy in the Himalayan landscape, this book is also about the journey that takes place within us, when we explore the limits of our self-imposed boundaries to find the hidden treasures of our heart. As the world enters a time of unprecedented change, we must evolve new ways of thinking, living, learning and leading that will help us to navigate the challenging terrain of this new frontier. May this heart-felt tribute to the enduring spirit of Mark Auricht, serve as an inspiration and a compass for future leaders, adventurous souls and explorers of human potential.

Book excerpt: Thirsty? Parched for fresh, flowing biblical insights that will revive your trial-weary heart and slake your thirst for more of Jesus? Water From the Rock, the final book in Greg Hinnant’s devotional trilogy, offers you spiritual water aplenty. Its 122 biblical devotional studies are intentionally crafted to provide more material than that offered by most devotionals in hopes of providing more inspiration and prompting further study. Ministers will find numerous sermons and teachings here and disciples much study material. These expository messages address many timely biblical subjects yet, like the Bible, their central theme is Christ—knowing Him, pleasing Him, and learning to walk closely with Him in the hot, spiritually dry wilderness of this increasingly secular, Christ-rejecting world. For that, we will need to rehydrate our souls regularly with lots of spiritual water. So, take long, thoughtful, prayerful drinks of this devotional’s Spirit-illuminated, biblical water, again and again. With the Holy Spirit’s blessing, it will help sustain and guide you through your wilderness trials to the Promised Land of Christian maturity! Book Review: As always, this book is blessing my socks off, to use an old expression. I am thoroughly enjoying working on it." -- Deborah Moss, Associate Editor, Charisma Media

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jalaloddin Rumi's Masnavi-ye Ma'navi, or 'Spiritual Couplets', composed in the 13th Century, is a monumental work of poetry in the Sufi tradition of Islamic mysticism. For centuries before his love poetry became a literary phenomenon in the West, Rumi's Masnavi had been revered in the Islamic world as its greatest mystical text. Drawing upon a vast array of characters, stories and fables, and deeply versed in spiritual teaching, it takes us on a profound and playful journey of discovery along the path of divine love, toward its ultimate goal of union with the source of all Truth. In Book Two of the Masnavi, the second of six volumes, we travel with Rumi toward an understanding of the deeper truth and reality, beyond the limits of the self. Alan Williams's authoritative new translation is rendered in highly readable blank verse and includes the original Persian text for reference. True to the spirit of Rumi's poem, this new translation establishes the Masnavi as one of the world's great literary achievements for a global readership. Translated with an introduction, notes and analysis by Alan Williams and including the Persian text edited by Mohammad Este'lami.
