It features a “poor, lonesome cowboy”, who sings to his unlikely steed, a camel, while driving his cattle across the prairies. The colourful illustrations depict both the cowboy’s somewhat bored existence and the great comfort he derives from the loyalty, resilience, determination and endurance of his smelly, dribbly companion. Their affection cements this unusual relationship. The cowboy sees the baby Jesus as his constant companion, giving him protection from his loneliness and a cause for celebration. Although the Christmas message is fundamental to the song it also has universal appeal. Children of all faiths and none will love it. This is one of Three Christmas Camels. The music is supplied to each book via a QR code which links to the author’s website, delivering a quality audio track to sing along to, and a video to enjoy. The corresponding music notation is printed beneath each lyric line, providing an introduction to sight-reading for juniors. Scores are available free for singing in harmony, and the full version to round off a Christmas concert will amuse the adults. Read, sing, learn … and smile!

Download or read book Once Upon a Camel written by Kathi Appelt and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A delight to the senses.” —Kirkus Reviews Perfect for fans of The One and Only Ivan, this exquisite middle grade novel from Newbery Honoree and National Book Award finalist Kathi Appelt follows a creaky old camel out to save two baby kestrel chicks during a massive storm in the Texas desert—filled with over a dozen illustrations by Caldecott winner Eric Rohmann. Zada is a camel with a treasure trove of stories to tell. She’s won camel races for the royal Pasha of Smyrna, crossed treacherous oceans to new land, led army missions with her best camel friend by her side, and outsmarted a far too pompous mountain lion. But those stories were from before. Now, Zada wanders the desert as the last camel in Texas. She’s not, however, alone. Two tiny kestrel chicks are nestled in the fluff of fur between her ears—kee-killy-keeing for their missing parents—and a dust storm the size of a mountain is taking Zada on one more grand adventure. And it could lead to this achy old camel’s most brilliant story yet.
Book Synopsis Camels in the Biblical World by : Martin Heide
Download or read book Camels in the Biblical World written by Martin Heide and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2021-07-20 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Camels are first mentioned in the Bible as the movable property of Abraham. During the early monarchy, they feature prominently as long-distance mounts for the Queen of Sheba, and almost a millennium later, the Gospels tell us about the impossibility of a camel passing through a needle’s eye. Given the limited extrabiblical evidence for camels before circa 1000 BCE, a thorough investigation of the spatio-temporal history of the camel in the ancient Near and Middle East is necessary to understand their early appearance in the Hebrew Bible. Camels in the Biblical World is a two-part study that charts the cultural trajectories of two domestic species—the two-humped or Bactrian camel (Camelus bactrianus) and the one-humped or Arabian camel (Camelus dromedarius)—from the fourth through first millennium BCE and up to the first century CE. Drawing on archaeological camel remains, iconography, inscriptions, and other text sources, the first part reappraises the published data on the species’ domestication and early exploitation in their respective regions of origin. The second part takes a critical look at the various references to camels in the Hebrew Bible and the Gospels, providing a detailed philological analysis of each text and referring to archaeological data and zoological observations whenever appropriate. A state-of-the-art evaluation of the cultural history of the camel and its role in the biblical world, this volume brings the humanities into dialogue with the natural sciences. The novel insights here serve scholars in disciplines as diverse as biblical studies, (zoo)archaeology, history, and philology.

By helping to start a traveling library, she hopes to bring the words of Homer, Hemingway, and Dr. Seuss to far-flung tiny communities where people live daily with drought, hunger, and disease. Her intentions are honorable, and her rules are firm: due to the limited number of donated books, if any one of them is not returned, the bookmobile will not return. But, encumbered by her Western values, Fi does not understand the people she seeks to help. And in the impoverished small community of Mididima, she finds herself caught in the middle of a volatile local struggle when the bookmobile's presence sparks a dangerous feud between the proponents of modernization and those who fear the loss of traditional ways.
