Book Synopsis Early Georgia Wills and Settlements of Estates, Wilkes County by : Sarah Quinn Smith
Download or read book Early Georgia Wills and Settlements of Estates, Wilkes County written by Sarah Quinn Smith and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 1976 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wilkes County, Georgia, created in the year 1777, is the parent of Elbert, Oglethorpe, and Lincoln counties and parts of the counties of Greene, Hart, Madison, Taliaferro, and Warren. It comprised one-third of the population of the state in 1790. The records in this excellent little book are supplementary to Mrs. Grace G. Davidson's "Early Records of Georgia: Wilkes County" (1932, 1933) and are designed to assist the researcher in making a detailed survey of the oldest records in the Ordinary's office, once known as the Inferior Court office. The records--principally wills and settlements of estates, but also deeds of gift, inheritances, and marriage bonds--have more than ordinary genealogical significance, as they name not only principals but also beneficiaries (showing relationships), as well as witnesses and executors. The material is mostly of the period dating from the late 18th to the early 19th centuries and identifies nearly 5,000 early Georgians.

This book was released on 2009-06 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the Glorious Revolution, the supporters of the House of Stuart, known as Jacobites, could be found throughout the British Isles. The Scottish county of Angus, or Forfarshire, made a significant contribution to the Jacobite armies of 1715 and 1745. David Dobson has compiled a list of about 900 persons--including not only soldiers but also civilians who lent crucial support to the rebellion. Arranged alphabetically, the entries always give the full name of the Jacobite, his occupation, his rank, date of service and unit (if military), and, sometimes, the individual's date of birth, the names of his parents, a specific place of origin, and a wide range of destinations to which the Jacobites fled after each of the failed insurrections.
Book Synopsis From Slave to Untouchable by : Paul Kalra
Download or read book From Slave to Untouchable written by Paul Kalra and published by Antenna Publishing Co. This book was released on 2011 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In From Slave to Untouchable: Lincoln's Solution, class system scholar Paul Kalra challenges the assumption that the Civil War was fought to end black slavery. He asserts that civil war could have been avoided had early Americans adopted the Catholic slave code, which recognized slaves' humanity. Instead, he traces slavery in the U.S. to the Protestant slave code, which created distinct classes of slaveholders and non-slaveholders, and denied black slaves citizenship. It was primarily slaveholders-the wealthiest, most powerful class in pre-Civil War America, who framed the undemocratic Constitution to secure their economic and political advantages. As immigrants flooded the "free" North, the South's political advantage dwindled, and slavery endangered the nation's economic balance. Lincoln's election translated to the South's loss of power and the inevitability of Civil War. Kalra weaves an impressive array of perspectives into his well-crafted story, and concludes by demonstrating that the legacy of the slaveholders' self-serving Constitution persists today, rendering blacks in America an essentially "untouchable" class.
