Book Synopsis Analytical, Numerical, and Experimental Results on Turbulent Boundary Layers by : David L. Whitfield
Download or read book Analytical, Numerical, and Experimental Results on Turbulent Boundary Layers written by David L. Whitfield and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the results of analytical, numerical, and experimental investigations of incompressible and compressible boundary layers. The subjects considered are (1) Laminar and/or turbulent numerical boundary-layer calculations in which the Reynolds stress is related to the turbulent kinetic energy; (2) an analytical investigation of turbulence near a wall which is not founded on classical mixing-length theory; (3) analytical solutions for relating velocity and temperature throughout turbulent boundary layers for nonunity Prandtl numbers; (4) a description of the data reduction of pitot pressure measurements utilizing these analytical results, and (5) the application of the numerical and analytical results to the analysis of turbulent boundary-layer measurements made in the Propulsion Wind Tunnel Facility (PWT).

Download or read book A Flight Investigation of the Effect of Shape and Thickness of the Boundary Layer on the Pressure Distribution in the Presence of Shock written by Eziaslav N. Harrin and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made in flight at free-stream Mach numbers up to about 0.77 to determine the effect of a laminar boundary layer and thin and thick turbulent boundary layers on the chordwise pressure distribution over an airfoil in the presence of shock at full-scale Reynolds numbers. Boundary-layer and pressure-distribution measurements were made on a short-span airfoil built around ar wing of a fighter plane. Boundary-layer Reynolds numbers (based on momentum thickness and flow parameters at the outer edge of the boundary layer) were about 3,000 for the laminar boundary layer and 10,000 for the thickest turbulent boundary layer with local Mach numbers ranging up to 1.3 and chord Reynolds numbers up to about 21,000,000.
Book Synopsis Boundary Layer Effects by : Anthony W. Fiore

Book excerpt: In 1975 the U.S. Air Force and the Federal Republic of Germany signed a Data Exchange Agreement numbered AF-75-G-7440 entitled 'Viscous and Interacting Flow Fields.' The purpose was to exchange data in the area of boundary layer research. It includes both experimental and theoretical boundary layer research at speeds from subsonic to hypersonic Mach numbers in the presence of laminar, transitional, and turbulent boundary layers. The main effort in recent years has been on turbulent boundary layers, both attached and separated in the presence of such parameters as pressure gradients, wall temperature, surface roughness, etc. In the United States the research was conducted in various Department of Defense, NASA, aircraft corporations, and various university laboratories. In the Federal Republic of Germany it was carried out within the various DFVLR, industrial, and university research centers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The system of linear differential equations which indicated the approach of separation and the so-called "boundary-layer thickness" by Gruschwitz is extended in this report to include the case where the friction layer is subject to centrifugal forces. Evaluation of the data yields a strong functional dependence of the momentum change and wall drag on the boundary-layer thickness radius of curvature ratio for the wall. It is further shown that the transition from laminar to turbulent flow occurs at somewhat higher Reynolds Numbers at the convex wall than at the flat plate, due to the stabilizing effect of the centrifugal forces.
