Book Synopsis Sensitivity Analysis in Linear Regression by : Samprit Chatterjee
Download or read book Sensitivity Analysis in Linear Regression written by Samprit Chatterjee and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-25 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treats linear regression diagnostics as a tool for application of linear regression models to real-life data. Presentation makes extensive use of examples to illustrate theory. Assesses the effect of measurement errors on the estimated coefficients, which is not accounted for in a standard least squares estimate but is important where regression coefficients are used to apportion effects due to different variables. Also assesses qualitatively and numerically the robustness of the regression fit.

Book excerpt: The Wiley-Interscience Paperback Series consists of selected booksthat have been made more accessible to consumers in an effort toincrease global appeal and general circulation. With these newunabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives ofthese works by making them available to future generations ofstatisticians, mathematicians, and scientists. "The title of the book more or less sums up the contents. Itappears to me to represent a real breakthrough in the art ofdealing in ‘unconventional’ data. . . . I found thewhole book both readable and enjoyable. It is suitable for dataanalysts, academic statisticians, and professional softwarewriters." –Journal of the Royal Statistical Society "The book assumes a working knowledge of all of the principalresults and techniques used in least squares multiple regression,as expressed in vector and matrix notation. Given this background, the book is clear and easy to use. . . . The techniques areillustrated in great detail with practical data sets fromeconometrics." –Short Book Reviews, International Statistical Institute Regression Diagnostics: Identifying Influential Data and Sourcesof Collinearity provides practicing statisticians andeconometricians with new tools for assessing quality andreliability of regression estimates. Diagnostic techniques aredeveloped that aid in the systematic location of data points thatare unusual or inordinately influential; measure the presence andintensity of collinear relations among the regression data; andhelp to identify variables involved in each and pinpoint estimatedcoefficients potentially most adversely affected. The bookemphasizes diagnostics and includes suggestions for remedialaction

Book Synopsis Modern Data Analysis by : Robert L. Launer
Download or read book Modern Data Analysis written by Robert L. Launer and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Data Analysis contains the proceedings of a Workshop on Modern Data Analysis held in Raleigh, North Carolina, on June 2-4, 1980 under the auspices of the United States Army Research Office. The papers review theories and methods of data analysis and cover topics ranging from single and multiple quantile-quantile (Q-Q) plotting procedures to biplot display and pencil-and-paper exploratory data analysis methods. Projection pursuit methods for data analysis are also discussed. Comprised of nine chapters, this book begins with an introduction to styles of data analysis techniques, followed by an analysis of single and multiple Q-Q plotting procedures. Problems involving extreme-value data and the behavior of sample averages are considered. Subsequent chapters deal with the use of smelting in guiding re-expression; geometric data analysis; and influence functions and regression diagnostics. The final chapter examines the use and interpretation of robust analysis of variance for the general non-full-rank linear model. The procedures are described in terms of their mathematical structure, which leads to efficient computational algorithms. This monograph should be of interest to mathematicians and statisticians.
Book Synopsis Linear Regression by : David J. Olive
Download or read book Linear Regression written by David J. Olive and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text covers both multiple linear regression and some experimental design models. The text uses the response plot to visualize the model and to detect outliers, does not assume that the error distribution has a known parametric distribution, develops prediction intervals that work when the error distribution is unknown, suggests bootstrap hypothesis tests that may be useful for inference after variable selection, and develops prediction regions and large sample theory for the multivariate linear regression model that has m response variables. A relationship between multivariate prediction regions and confidence regions provides a simple way to bootstrap confidence regions. These confidence regions often provide a practical method for testing hypotheses. There is also a chapter on generalized linear models and generalized additive models. There are many R functions to produce response and residual plots, to simulate prediction intervals and hypothesis tests, to detect outliers, and to choose response transformations for multiple linear regression or experimental design models. This text is for graduates and undergraduates with a strong mathematical background. The prerequisites for this text are linear algebra and a calculus based course in statistics.

Book Synopsis Robust Multivariate Analysis by : David J. Olive
Download or read book Robust Multivariate Analysis written by David J. Olive and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents methods that are robust to the assumption of a multivariate normal distribution or methods that are robust to certain types of outliers. Instead of using exact theory based on the multivariate normal distribution, the simpler and more applicable large sample theory is given. The text develops among the first practical robust regression and robust multivariate location and dispersion estimators backed by theory. The robust techniques are illustrated for methods such as principal component analysis, canonical correlation analysis, and factor analysis. A simple way to bootstrap confidence regions is also provided. Much of the research on robust multivariate analysis in this book is being published for the first time. The text is suitable for a first course in Multivariate Statistical Analysis or a first course in Robust Statistics. This graduate text is also useful for people who are familiar with the traditional multivariate topics, but want to know more about handling data sets with outliers. Many R programs and R data sets are available on the author’s website.
