Download or read book Neutron Transport written by Ramadan M. Kuridan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-28 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a thorough explanation of the physical concepts and presents the general theory of different forms through approximations of the neutron transport processes in nuclear reactors and emphasize the numerical computing methods that lead to the prediction of neutron behavior. Detailed derivations and thorough discussions are the prominent features of this book unlike the brevity and conciseness which are the characteristic of most available textbooks on the subject where students find them difficult to follow. This conclusion has been reached from the experience gained through decades of teaching. The topics covered in this book are suitable for senior undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of nuclear engineering and physics. Other engineering and science students may find the construction and methodology of tackling problems as presented in this book appealing from which they can benefit in solving other problems numerically. The book provides access to a one dimensional, two energy group neutron diffusion program including a user manual, examples, and test problems for student practice. An option of a Matlab user interface is also available.

This book was released on 1965 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of elementary solutions to the energy-dependent Boltzmann equation, which was derived in an earlier paper, is shown to possess a half-range completeness property allowing the exact solution to energy-dependent half-space problems and the reduction of finiteslab problems to rapidly convergent Fredholm equations. Results follow in analogy with Case's work on the one-velocity transport equation except that a system of singular integral equations is encountered, giving rise to the Hilbert problems for matrices. It is shown that the methods of Muskhelishvili and Vekua are applicable to this matrix problem and lead to the consideration of a class of Fredholm equations to obtain the solution. The explicit form the Fredholm equation for the present problem is derived by extending the analysis of the scalar Hilbert problem to the matrix case. Applications of the completeness proof are made to the albedo and Milne problems for a half-space. (Author).

Book Synopsis Mathematical Solutions of the One-Dimensional Neutron Transport Equation by : Larry Thomas Davis

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considering the case of one speed, steady state, isotropic scattering in homogeneous media with plane symmetry, this thesis developes the solution of the one-dimensional neutron transport equation by three separate techniques. The method of K.M. Case which makes use of the theory of generalized functions in forming a semi-classical eigenfunction expansion with both a continuous spectrum and a finite discrete spectrum is developed. Converting the neutron transport equation to an integral equation and then to a singular integral equation, a solution is found in a method due to T.W. Mullikin which has very useful convergence properties. Applying the method due to N. Weiner and E. Hopf to the integral equation form of the neutron transport equation, a solution is developed which depends heavily on complex variable theory. (Author).

This book was released on 1965 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An earlier treatment of the energy-dependent transport equation is extended to include the case in which cross sections are functions of energy. The technique again consists of finding solutions to the homogeneous transport equation after expanding in terms of a complete set of functions in the energy variable. The full-range completeness theorem for these eigenfunctions requires the solution of a coupled set of singular integral equations. This solution is effected by a generalization of a trick used by Case and is applied to the problem for the infinite medium Green's function. Numerical results are given for a heavy gas model. The half-range completeness theorem, which may be applied to half-space and finite slab problems, is proven in a companion paper. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general procedure of solving the one-velocity Boltzmann equation in the case of plane geometry is presented. It is assumed that the scattering function can be expanded into the finite series of Legendre polynomials. The complete set of eigenfunctions of the Boltzmann equation is found. The orthogonality and completeness of the eigenfunctions are proved. By way of illustration, solutions of some basic problems of neutron diffusion are given. (Author).

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Parallel Virtual Machine and Message Passing Interface by : Jack Dongarra
Download or read book Recent Advances in Parallel Virtual Machine and Message Passing Interface written by Jack Dongarra and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-26 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) and Message Passing Interface (MPI) are the most frequently used tools for programming according to the message passing paradigm, which is considered one of the best ways to develop parallel applications. This volume comprises 42 revised contributions presented at the Seventh European PVM/MPI Users’ Group Meeting, which was held in Balatonfr ed, Hungary, 10 13 September 2000. The conference was organized by the Laboratory of Parallel and Distributed Systems of the Computer and Automation Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. This conference was previously held in Barcelona, Spain (1999), Liverpool, UK (1998) and Cracow, Poland (1997). The first three conferences were devoted to PVM and were held at the Technische Universit t M nchen, Germany (1996), Ecole Normale Superieure Lyon, France (1995), and University of Rome, Italy (1994). This conference has become a forum for users and developers of PVM, MPI, and other message passing environments. Interaction between those groups has proved to be very useful for developing new ideas in parallel computing and for applying existing ideas to new practical fields. The main topics of the meeting were evaluation and performance of PVM and MPI, extensions and improvements to PVM and MPI, algorithms using the message passing paradigm, and applications in science and engineering based on message passing. The conference included four tutorials and five invited talks on advances in MPI, cluster computing, network computing, grid computing, and SGI parallel computers and programming systems.
