Book Synopsis Biological Applications of Magnetic Resonance by : R Shulman
Download or read book Biological Applications of Magnetic Resonance written by R Shulman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological Applications of Magnetic Resonance discusses various applications of magnetic resonance techniques. The book's opening chapter examines the exchange behavior of the hydrogen-bonded protons and its influence on their nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra. This is followed by separate chapters dealing with NMR studies of nucleic acid and drug-nucleic acid complexes. Aspects of the basic theory of the nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE) are presented, along with applications of NOEs observed for protons in biomolecules. Subsequent chapters cover specialized EPR techniques that have been applied to biological problems; the use of physical methods to refine a model of the combing site of the Fv fragment of protein 315; and the utility of model compounds in the analysis of hemoprotein NMR spectra. The remaining chapters discuss serine proteinases that have been investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; the use of NMR in the study of intact living tissue and organs; and 31P and 13C NMR studies of E. coli cells.

Book Synopsis Quadruplex Nucleic Acids by : Stephen Neidle
Download or read book Quadruplex Nucleic Acids written by Stephen Neidle and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guanine rich DNA has been known for decades to form unusual structures, although their biological relevance was little understood. Recent advances have demonstrated that quadruplex structures can play a role in gene expression and provide opportunities for a new class of anticancer therapeutics. A number of quadruplex-specific proteins have also been discovered. Quadruplex Nucleic Acids discusses all aspects of the fundamentals of quadruplex structures, including their structure in solution and the crystalline state, the kinetics of quadruplex folding, and the role of cations in structure and stability. The biology of quadruplexes and G-rich genomic regions and G-quartets in supramolecular chemistry and nanoscience are also considered. Surveying the current state of knowledge, and with contributions from leading experts, this is the first comprehensive review of this rapidly growing area. Quadruplex Nucleic Acids is ideal for researchers interested in areas related to chemistry, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, molecular pharmacology, and structural and molecular biology.
Book Synopsis Stereodynamics of Molecular Systems by : Ramaswamy H. Sarma
Download or read book Stereodynamics of Molecular Systems written by Ramaswamy H. Sarma and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stereodynamics of Molecular Systems covers the proceedings of a symposium held at the State University of New York at Albany, on 23-24 April 1979. The book focuses on the stereodynamics of molecules and ions and nucleic acid structure. The contributions tackle spectroscopy, crystallography, perturbations, and electron-transfer reactions. The selection first offers information on nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy chemical shifts, coupling constants, and molecular geometry, including chemical shifts, bond coupling constants, and constitutional features of nucleic acids. The book then takes a look at nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy stereodynamics of small molecules; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy solution dynamics of polymer chains; and single crystal crystallography. The publication evaluates the steric effects on electron-transfer reactions of sulfonamides; effects of isotopic perturbation on NMR spectra; and conformational mobility of the backbone of cyclic tripeptides. The book also discusses accessible surface areas of nucleic acids and their relation to folding, conformational transition, and protein recognition. Topics include polarity of exposed atoms, surface of DNA double helices, transfer RNA, and calculation of “static“ accessible surface area. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in the stereodynamics of molecules and ions and nucleic acid structure.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since most therapeutic efforts have been predominantly focused on pharmaceuticals that target proteins, there is an unmet need to develop drugs that intercept cellular pathways that critically involve nucleic acids. Progress in the discovery of nucleic acid binding drugs naturally relies on the availability of analytical methods that assess the eff
