Book Synopsis The European Company - all over Europe by : Krzysztof Oplustil
Download or read book The European Company - all over Europe written by Krzysztof Oplustil and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-17 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 8 October 2004, the Council Regulation (EC) No. 2157/2001 on the Statute for the European Company (SE) will enter into force. In order to make the SE a functional instrument for entrepreneurs and investors, as well as to ensure the effective application of European law, it is necessary to pass national implementation measures by then. National legislators have the opportunity as well as the challenge to shape, in some respect, a national model of the SE which would be attractive for investors and would influence their decision as to where the company be located. Thus, the coming into force of the SE-Regulation will also give "the starting shot" for the competition between national legislators with regard to the law of the European Company. The aim of the present book is to provide the first indications in those national regulations specifically concerning the SE. Although no national law has so far been finally adopted, the first legislative steps have already been taken in many Member States and first drafts have been published. These drafts are presented in the book by the national experts. Moreover, the authors from Member States where no official drafts so far exist, express their personal reflections on how the specific regulations of national law would and should look. Given the fact that in October 2004, when the SE-Regulation comes into force, the European Union will be enlarged by 10 new Member States, the reports cover also some of them, i.e. Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Governance and Public Management for Social Policy by : Karen J. Baehler
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Governance and Public Management for Social Policy written by Karen J. Baehler and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-16 with total page 1065 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public administration plays an integral role at every stage of social policy creation and execution. Program operators' management decisions shape policymakers' perceptions of what can and should be accomplished through social programs, while public administrators wield considerable power to mobilize tangible and intangible resources and fill gaps in policy designs. Furthermore, the cumulative effects of public administrators' daily activities directly influence outcomes for program participants, and may shift policy itself. Location also matters to social policy, as those same administrators are expected to innovate continuously in response to shifting local and national conditions, including changes in budgetary allocations, client needs and capacities, and public attitudes. This Handbook will aim to capture what is being learned across six geographical regions: Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S. and Canada. Specifically, each regional section will contain 6-10 chapters canvassing a particular set of promising practices or emerging challenges at the regional or sub-regional level, in addition to a brief overview written by the section editor. The regional sections will be flanked by integrative chapters. As a whole, the volume contains 65 chapters.

Book Synopsis New and Alternative Social Movements in Spain by : John Karamichas
Download or read book New and Alternative Social Movements in Spain written by John Karamichas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection, originally published in 2007, offers a diachronic analytical study of new and alternative social movements in Spain from the democratic transition to the first decade of the 21st century, paying attention to anti-war mobilizations and the use of new technologies as a mobilizing resource. New and alternative social movements are studied through the prism of identified linkages among the left, movement identities and global processes in the Spanish context. Weight is given to certain important historical aspects, like Spain’s relatively recent authoritarian past, and certain value-added factors, such as the weak associationalism and materialism exhibited by the Spanish public. These are complemented by exploring insights offered by key theoretical approaches on social movements (political opportunities structures, resource mobilization). The volume covers established social movement cases (gender, peace, environmental movements) as well as those with a more explicit connection to the current context of global contestation (squatters’ and anti-globalization movements). This bookw as published as a special issue of South European Society and Politics.

Book Synopsis Social Rights Jurisprudence by : Malcolm Langford
Download or read book Social Rights Jurisprudence written by Malcolm Langford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-19 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the space of two decades, social rights have emerged from the shadows and margins of human rights jurisprudence. The authors in this book provide a critical analysis of almost two thousand judgments and decisions from twenty-nine national and international jurisdictions. The breadth of the decisions is vast, from the resettlement of evictees to the regulation of private medical plans to the development of state programs to address poverty and illiteracy. The jurisprudence not only implicates our understanding of economic, social, and cultural rights, but also challenges the philosophical debates that question whether these rights can and should be justiciable.

Most of the expressions of collective agency are analyzed in this book within the context of the neoliberal model of globalization that has seriously affected most Latin American and Caribbean women's lives in multiple ways. Contributors explore the emergence of the area's feminist movement, dictatorships of the 1970s, the Central American uprisings, the urban, grassroots organizing for better living conditions, and finally, the turn toward public policy and formal political involvement and the alternative globalization movement. Geared toward bridging cultural realities, this volume represents women's transformations, challenges, and hopes, while considering the analytical tools needed to dissect the realities, understand the alternatives, and promote gender democracy.
