Book Synopsis Religion and Law in Finland by : Matti Kotiranta
Download or read book Religion and Law in Finland written by Matti Kotiranta and published by Kluwer Law International. This book was released on 2021-06-20 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this convenient resource provides systematic information on how Finland deals with the role religion plays or can play in society, the legal status of religious communities and institutions, and the legal interaction among religion, culture, education, and media. After a general introduction describing the social and historical background, the book goes on to explain the legal framework in which religion is approached. Coverage proceeds from the principle of religious freedom through the rights and contractual obligations of religious communities; international, transnational, and regional law effects; and the legal parameters affecting the influence of religion in politics and public life. Also covered are legal positions on religion in such specific fields as church financing, labour and employment, and matrimonial and family law. A clear and comprehensive overview of relevant legislation and legal doctrine make the book an invaluable reference source and very useful guide. Succinct and practical, this book will prove to be of great value to practitioners in the myriad instances where a law-related religious interest arises in Finland. Academics and researchers will appreciate its value as a thorough but concise treatment of the legal aspects of diversity and multiculturalism in which religion plays such an important part.
Book Synopsis Migration and Social Protection in Europe and Beyond (Volume 1) by : Jean-Michel Lafleur
Download or read book Migration and Social Protection in Europe and Beyond (Volume 1) written by Jean-Michel Lafleur and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-30 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first open access book in a series of three volumes provides an in-depth analysis of social protection policies that EU Member States make accessible to resident nationals, non-resident nationals and non-national residents. In doing so, it discusses different scenarios in which the interplay between nationality and residence could lead to inequalities of access to welfare. Each chapter maps the eligibility conditions for accessing social benefits, by paying particular attention to the social entitlements that migrants can claim in host countries and/or export from home countries. The book also identifies and compares recent trends of access to welfare entitlements across five policy areas: health care, unemployment, family benefits, pensions, and guaranteed minimum resources. As such this book is a valuable read to researchers, policy makers, government employees and NGO’s.

Book Synopsis Housing Estates in Europe by : Daniel Baldwin Hess
Download or read book Housing Estates in Europe written by Daniel Baldwin Hess and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book explores the formation and socio-spatial trajectories of large housing estates in Europe. Are these estates clustered or scattered? Which social groups originally had access to residential space in housing estates? What is the size, scale and geography of housing estates, their architectural and built environment composition, services and neighbourhood amenities, and metropolitan connectivity? How do housing estates contribute to the urban mosaic of neighborhoods by ethnic and socio-economic status? What types of policies and planning initiatives have been implemented in order to prevent the social downgrading of housing estates? The collection of chapters in this book addresses these questions from a new perspective previously unexplored in scholarly literature. The social aspects of housing estates are thoroughly investigated (including socio-demographic and economic characteristics of current and past inhabitants; ethnicity and segregation patterns; population dynamics; etc.), and the physical composition of housing estates is described in significant detail (including building materials; building form; architectural and landscape design; built environment characteristics; etc.). This book is timely because the recent global economic crisis and Europe’s immigration crisis demand a thorough investigation of the role large housing estates play in poverty and ethnic concentration. Through case studies of housing estates in 14 European centers, the book also identifies policy measures that have been used to address challenges in housing estates throughout Europe.

Book Synopsis Activation Policies and the Protection of Individual Rights by : Paul Van Aerschot
Download or read book Activation Policies and the Protection of Individual Rights written by Paul Van Aerschot and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Denmark, Finland and Sweden the evolution of administrative law, including social welfare law, has been marked by a shift towards a stronger protection of the recipient's individual rights. The adoption of activation policies targeting recipients of social assistance has highlighted the tensions between decision-making concerning the implementation of these policies and the legislative efforts to promote the realisation of individual rights in the field of social welfare. An examination of the legislation in question and its implementation conditions shows that the realisation of individual rights is subordinated to the pursuit of organisational and other objectives. The findings of the study are used to formulate proposals for the promotion of individual rights based on the Nordic egalitarian model of citizenship. This critical assessment of activation policies should be of broad international appeal. It will be of interest to researchers in social policy, as well as those concerned with protection of rights.
Book Synopsis European Social Policy and the Nordic Countries by : Alan C. Neal

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: The contributions to this volume have been brought together and edited from presentations made to a two-day seminar held in Brussels with the financial and organisational support of the social affairs directorate of the European Commission on 15th and 16th May 1995. That seminar provided an important first opportunity, following accession to membership of the European Community by Finland and Sweden, for representatives of the Commission to discuss with delegates from all of the significant labour market organisations throughout the Nordic countries some of the challenges and fears raised by the superimposition of a European-level framework upon the fabled social structures of those Nordic countries.
Book Synopsis Health, Wellness and Social Policy by : Guy Bäckman
Download or read book Health, Wellness and Social Policy written by Guy Bäckman and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2010 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social and Health Services are at the core of the debate in Europe. On the one hand the topic tackles on of the vital points of the claimed European social Model. On the other hand, politics around these services are very much about their liberalisation and managerialisation. The 21 contributions that are gathered in this volume take up on this topic and show the complexity of the topic. And it is only by spanning from the fundamental questions around human and social rights to the concrete analysis of service provision and use of services. The contributors to this volume span across different fields of expertise and come as well from different national and regional backgrounds. This opens the way of communicating common grounds but as well the way of engaged discussions that are concerned with the actual meaning of general positions when it comes to societal and social practice. This reflects very much Guy Bäckman's research that includes many areas of health-, social- and welfare policy. The Festschrift "Health, Wellness and Social Policy" had been compiled in his honor. The authors want to recognize the important contribution Guy Bäckman made over the years; and they want it by fostering the further debates in this area.

Book Synopsis Outsourcing Legal Aid in the Nordic Welfare States by : Olaf Halvorsen Rønning
Download or read book Outsourcing Legal Aid in the Nordic Welfare States written by Olaf Halvorsen Rønning and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This edited collection provides a comprehensive analysis of the differences and similarities between civil legal aid schemes in the Nordic countries whilst outlining recent legal aid transformations in their respective welfare states. Based on in-depth studies of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland, the authors compare these cases with legal aid in Europe and the US to examine whether a single, unique Nordic model exists. Contextualizing Nordic legal aid in relation to welfare ideology and human rights, Hammerslev and Halvorsen Rønning consider whether flaws in the welfare state exist, and how legal aid affects disadvantaged citizens. Concluding that the five countries all have very different legal aid schemes, the authors explore an important general trend: welfare states increasingly outsourcing legal aid to the market and the third sector through both membership organizations and smaller voluntary organizations. A methodical and compassionate text, this book will be of special interest to scholars and students of the criminal justice, the welfare state, and the legal aid system.
