Book excerpt: This book presents paradigms and programs for pelvic health conditions over the lifespan from childhood to senior years, with medical pearls and storytelling. It includes new concepts and practices with the integration of Medical Therapeutic Yoga and Pilates into rehabilitation prescriptions, sexual medicine, and strategies for healing pain and trauma. The contributors have a wealth of clinical experience, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and the client care focus is with manual therapy, exercise, education, and compassion based treatment. Physical therapy, Yoga and Pilates are woven together to provide evidence based platforms for health care intervention for pelvic pain, bladder and bowel dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, sexual medicine, and trauma sensitive care. Medical professionals as well as body workers, fitness trainers and community educators can glean critical health care knowledge as well as strategies for teamwork for client care. Health conditions pertaining to the pelvis are often under recognized, disregarded by most medical practitioners, and suffered in silence, humiliation and shame by most clients. The text will support global health care education and empowerment regarding pelvic health conditions and conservative care options. The text is integrative in considering the biopsychosocial model as well as current medical standards in pelvic rehabilitation treatment, as well as health promotion with nutrition and supplements.

It provides a solid foundation in neuroanatomy, motor control, and motor development, and offers clear, how-to guidelines to rehabilitation procedures. Book excerpt: Latest Release and Updates to Body in Balance: September 15,2015 In this release and update on the "Naked Truth" We are making real progress and many readers have written to me to let me know they have taken action. As a result, they report feeling better and performing better after following the healthy steps outlined in my book. That's great news! However, more work is still needed- our public health policies as they relate to pesticides, GMOs, sweetners and sweet deals with corporate control over food at the federal, state, local government and university levels needs to change. Big Food and the deceptive marketing to kids continues and it is time that we take back the right to know what is in our food to get our bodies and our nation's health back in balance. Therefore, my work continues with updates on these topics and more resources in this new edition of Body in Balance. Enjoy! Background: The American diet couldn't be a better breeding ground if we intentionally designed it to grow cancer, heart disease and stroke as well as to fast-track diabetes. Our poor diets and the acidic environment they create for our blood encourage these illnesses and we could not have made a better experiment (our diet) if we designed it for that research purpose. But this isn't an experiment. This is your health and your vitality is slipping away every time you try to treat another symptom with yet another pill. Each of those little aches, pains, and subtle low-grade annoyances are "warning signals" that an imbalance or deficiency exists somewhere in your biochemistry, oftentimes years before it surfaces as a diagnosable condition. The first place to look for clues is your diet. Currently the standard American diet (or "SAD" as it is rightfully known by) has degenerated to the point where 62% of calories are from refined foods and about 26% come from animal products. Of that mere 10% that remains from unrefined plant food, half of that comes from white potato products, not exactly nutrient-rich. Americans are just not eating for energy, and the numbers to follow couldn't paint a poorer picture for a Nation slipping deeper into a nutrition debt that will eventually bankrupt the US. The diet analysis mentioned is devoid of life and energy but somehow we continue to expect dead packaged foods to sustain life. They simply can't. They only add to a growing balance sheet of debt for our health in cataclysmic proportions. Those that are profiting, in addition to the pharmaceutical companies, are those selling to a "caffeine Nation" with products that aim to "fix" our extreme fatigue epidemic. The real answer begins with what you are putting on your plate. Along with learning what to simply avoid, and adopting a few smart nutrition tweaks and corrective movement suggestions in this book, you will quickly begin to get your body back in balance.

Book excerpt: Introducing the fitness program designed by a physical therapist exclusively for women — proven to increase strength, tone muscles and reduce aches and pains in just 15 minutes a day! Few women realize that most popular fitness regimens are designed for men. Yet women have their own unique fitness needs — and using a program developed with men’s bodies in mind is not only ineffective, but can actually result in injury. Renowned physical therapist Peggy Brill has devoted her life to developing an exercise program specifically for women. Based on her understanding of movement dynamics and body structure, these exercises focus on developing and balancing the muscles in the anatomical center of the body — the core — which includes the back, hip and abdominal muscles. Peggy’s remarkable head-to-toe workout targets the “hot spot” areas — neck, back, pelvis, hips, knees — that cause problems for even the healthiest women. In just 15 minutes a day, The Core Program’s easy-to-learn exercises will help women: • Strengthen their bodies to achieve balance and alignment • Eliminate everyday aches and pains • Prevent bone loss • Protect against osteoarthritis • Improve sleep, digestion and circulation • Enjoy better sex • Feel energized all day long • Overcome the effects of aging With inspirational case histories, detailed photographs illustrating each exercise and self-tests for rating balance, flexibility and strength, The Core Program is an owner’s manual for the naturally strong, healthy body every woman should have.
