Book excerpt: 'It is easier to know people in small places. Sometimes you can't help knowing them. Like the boy who walks four miles to school; or the elderly gentleman who is up every morning at five o'clock, taking his morning walk (tap-tap-tap, I hear his walking stick below my window); or that busy little woman gathering firewood for the winter; or the man from the nursery who sells me a potted geranium and ends up telling me the story of his life... So many stories waiting to be told! And, as I have discovered, small towns may be smaller than cities, and there may be fewer people living in them, but the stories they provide a writer with are big, they contain worlds upon worlds within them.'

Book excerpt: Small Town is a fictional story of a familys generational navigation through the Jim Crow South. The book is a collection of fictional stories woven together to describe the lives, times, and struggles of a black family living in the Deep South in a climate of racial animus. Three generations of family members experiences are depicted in a plethora of colorful characters. The only thing that helped this family through precarious and challenging times was their faith, family, and friends. Ultimately, the book Small Town shows us that no matter what we encounter or embark on in life, we can achieve and be successful under even the most distressful circumstances. This familys accomplishments were typical of a generation of people who were persistent and who instilled perseverance in their children, passed down from generation to generation. The Southern town where the setting of the book is depicted is a typical southern small town as they existed after the Civil War Reconstruction. Small Town refers not only to the population of the Southern town but also its mentality. Small towns were microcosms of the racist and white-supremacist attitudes that were pervasive below the Mason-Dixon line before and after landmark civil rights legislations. Rumors and rumors of rumors were a constant in this environment. Everyone knew your comings and goings in this small American town, and similarly, just like the major cities, only a few prominent families dictated who would be the haves and the have-nots. The fictional family in this book displayed the balance and flexibility to walk the tightrope of race and bigotry to maintain a social status that was rare and unique for black families in the Deep South. Religion and education were the foundations for this family and were their main weapons against any adversity that they encountered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you love oldies music, old cars, and good stories, you’ll love Small Town Big City: When Time Stood Still, a screenplay script. It is about the way it used to be in ’63. This nostalgic look back in time will take those who experienced it on a memorable journey to the times of simple living, old-fashioned ways, cool cars, good music, and teenagers trying to become adults, living for the moment and looking forward to tomorrow. Those who were born after 1963 can see and feel themselves in 1963. Back in the day, small-town people were usually outdated by the lifestyles of the big-city folks. They were kind of behind in the times, but they wouldn’t exchange it for the world to be a part of a close-knit community and for the love and commodity, which was priceless.

This book was released on 2007-07-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This very readable book will get you all fired up about small-town life in the 1950s! Flaunting a Dave Barry brand of humor, dozens of period photos, 50 unique drawings, 31 stand-alone stories, and often a literary level of writing, it rides the reader on a metaphorical Whizzer motorbike journey through life, from days of innocence through forsaken virtue. Along the way, village fires are both personal tragedies and popular roadside attractions. Actual events and historical personages mist over like foggy mornings. How much of each account is fact, how much is fiction? The author asks the reader to decide--and offers help with two different beginnings and endings! Everything in this book is, of course, absolutely, positively true. Sort of.

Book excerpt: A series of fictional short stories about equally fictional people in Carthage, Missouri. Based in the 1950s and 1960s for volume one. Mrs. Courtney didn't like people. At least not in person. She did like people around though, because she was afraid to live alone. So she lived in town, fought with her neighbors, and called the police on a regular basis on Thanksgiving, Christmas, VE day and July 25th.
