Book excerpt: 'Heart-warming, wonderful escapism and brimming with charm. I marvelled!' Christie Barlow. 'I absolutely LOVED this! The Note was fabulous and this follow-up was a real treat!' Mandy Baggot. The sequel to the bestselling phenomenon The Note – based on the true story of one girl and her 'Train Man'... A year after the kiss that brought them together in a snowy train-station doorway, Maya and James are embarking on another journey – this time around the world. The trip starts promisingly, with an opulent and romantic Indian wedding. But as their travels continue, Maya fears that 'love at first sight' might not survive trains, planes and tuk tuks, especially when she realises that what she really wants is a baby, and James doesn't feel the same. Can Maya and James navigate their different hopes and dreams to stay together? Or is love at first sight just a myth after all... Perfect for fans of One Day in December, Our Stop and Marian Keyes. The Postcard continues the once-in-a-lifetime love story that readers so took to their hearts.

Book Synopsis Women's Suffrage Memorabilia by : Kenneth Florey
Download or read book Women's Suffrage Memorabilia written by Kenneth Florey and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While historians have long recognized the importance of memorabilia to the Woman Suffrage movement, the subject has not been explored apart from a few restricted, albeit excellent, studies. Part of the problem is that such objects are scattered about in various collections and museums and can be difficult to access. Another is that most scholars do not have ready knowledge 1of the general nature and history of the type of objects (postcards, badges, sashes, toys, ceramics, sheet music, etc.) that suffragists produced. Then-new techniques in both printing and manufacturing created numerous possibilities for supporters to develop campaigns of "visual rhetoric." This work analyzes 70 different categories of suffrage memorabilia, while providing numerous images of relevant objects along the way and discussing these innovative production methods. Most important, this study looks at period accounts, often fascinating, of how, why when, and where the memorabilia were used in both America and England.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dark Tourism is the practice of visiting sites associated with death. While participation increases, dark tourism remains a mystery, regarded as the tourist industry’s dirty little secret. This book challenges the misconceptions of a ghoulish practice through the eyes of a self-confessed dark tourist, who has spent forty years visiting the world’s dark sites. From the cobbled streets of Whitechapel on a Jack The Ripper walking tour to the snowy suicide forest of Aokigahara, Japan, H. E. Sawyer ticks off the darkest sites on earth. He visits locations that have promoted themselves to become major tourist attractions, contrasting with those dark places that seek to remain hidden from view. In the course of his travels he wrestles with the ultimate question regarding dark tourism; why would anyone want to visit sites touched by death in the first place?
