Shaken by the death of a close friend, Evander takes it upon himself to track down the rest of the Arcadians to face off against Dionysus and the Boeotians. It seems like a good plan-until the vampire who disrupted his life returns to tempt the beast only she seems to awaken within him. Vander hates her, blames her for the tragedy that befell The Aegean Inn months before, but he craves her in his bed. He can't resist her bite...or her kiss. Free after being imprisoned and double-crossed by Dionysus, Bremusa only wants to be left alone. Born an Amazon and made into a monster by Lamia, she is prepared to handle any threat. So why can't she help herself when trouble finds her in the form of a sexy satyr prince she once tasted and didn't have the time to savor? Just one night with him would alleviate her curiosity, but could never be enough to sate her hunger for him. Elsewhere, enemies make strategic plays with apocalyptic intentions. Apollo has gone missing, Dionysus has used the syrinx, and Lamia won't rest until she breaks Bremusa's spirit-and her heart. Will Vander and Bremusa be able to stand their ground, or will their time together come to an abrupt halt? Not like anyone could survive the end of the world, or could they?

But outside forces may be manipulating them both, pushing them together for nefarious reasons. Kat must decide if she could learn to love a satyr or if his appearance is more than she can handle. Can she resist Pan's wicked nature, or will she give into the temptations beyond

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the first extensive survey of the ancient Greek painters’ practice of writing nonsense on vases, The So-called Nonsense Inscriptions on Ancient Greek Vases by Sara Chiarini provides a systematic overview of the linguistic features of the phenomenon and discusses its forms and contexts of reception. While the origins of the practice lie in the impaired literacy of the painters involved in it, the extent of the phenomenon suggests that, at some point, it became a true fashion within Attic vase painting. This raises the question of the forms of interaction with this epigraphic material. An open approach is adopted: “reading” attempts, riddles and puns inspired by nonsense inscriptions could happen in a variety of circumstances, including the symposium but not limited to it.

This is what a thirteen-year-old boy nicknamed “Puck” learns when he follows the Boogeyman through his closet into the realm of Fairy. Puck discovers the Boogeyman is not an evil "boogey" at all, but rather a "boogey hunter" whose duty it is to track and bring home monstrous fairies who have strayed into the Mortal World. As yet unaware of the Boogeyman's true nature, Puck mistakenly frees a shape-shifting changeling from the Boogeyman's lair. Their quest to re-capture the rogue fairy leads Puck and the Boogeyman on a world-hopping chase that ultimately sees both Fairy and the Mortal World embroiled in an all-out war—one that only Puck, the Boogeyman, and their allies can hope to stop. Fans of both RL Stine’s Goosebumps and JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series will find scares, magic, and adventure aplenty within pages of THE BOOGEYMAN—a monstrous fairytale written by Shane Berryhill, author of Chance Fortune and the Outlaws.

When Dr. Katerina Silverton travels into the Pine Barrens to make a documentary on the Jersey Devil, she doesn't believe she will uncover any supernatural evidence. In fact, she only takes the job because it promises funding for future projects. So it is quite a shock to Kat when she finds herself face-to-face with the legendary beast she was sent into the forest to capture on film. In ancient Greece, the god Pan made a terrible mistake which resulted in the creation of the Satyroi: a race of immortal satyrs. Centuries later, he lives secluded in the Pine Barrens, frightening mortals by taking the guise of an abhorrent local monster. When a beautiful woman shows up in his forest looking for proof of his existence, Pan can't resist revealing himself to her. Outside forces may be manipulating them both, pushing them together for nefarious reasons. Kat must decide if she could learn to love a satyr or if his appearance is more than she can handle. Can she resist Pan's wicked nature, or will she give into the temptations beyond her wildest fantasies?

Book excerpt: Readers demanded the full story. All right, already! Here it is. Just remember, you were warned. I, Loki, Norse god of mischief, was paroled to earth for a crime I swear I didn’t comment. Of course, who would ever believe me, the Trickster? Odin, the All-Father, has charged me with protecting the humans of Midgard from unfriendly, trans-dimensional beings, as if that were a small task. Humans need more help than I can provide! Fine, I’ll try. Maybe. Just don’t be surprised when I roll my eyes. Where should I begin? Oh, probably where every good story begins: with a girl. She walked along, her hair the color of a Valkyrie’s and long legs tucked into stylish boots. How could she not attract my attention? But this isn’t some urban fantasy romance novel. No, her guile would lead me to discovering a much larger plot against me. Someone wants me dead. Now there’s a cause for mischief. Let’s play. This book combines the first 5 stories in The Loki Adventures for the complete story arc experience. Included are: 1-800-Mischief For Sale, Call Loki For a Good Time, Call Loki For More Information, Call Loki For More Mischief, Call Loki And the stories keep going, but that’s all you’re going to get in this box set! If you like quick, fun, and imaginative reads, then you’ll love being entertained by Loki and his adventures. Buy 1-800-CallLoki and get into some mischief.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2012, this catalogue presents fifty-six Etruscan, Greek, and Italic carved ambers from the Getty Museum's collection—the second largest body of this material in the United States and one of the most important in the world. The ambers date from about 650 to 300 BC. The catalogue offers full description of the pieces, including typology, style, chronology, condition, and iconography. Each piece is illustrated. The catalogue is preceded by a general introduction to ancient amber (which was also published in 2012 as a stand-alone print volume titled Amber and the Ancient World). Through exquisite visual examples and vivid classical texts, this book examines the myths and legends woven around amber—its employment in magic and medicine, its transport and carving, and its incorporation into jewelry, amulets, and other objects of prestige. This publication highlights a group of remarkable amber carvings at the J. Paul Getty Museum. This catalogue was first published in 2012 at museumcatalogues.getty.edu/amber/. The present online edition of this open-access publication was migrated in 2019 to www.getty.edu/publications/ambers/; it features zoomable, high-resolution photography; free PDF, EPUB, and Kindle/MOBI downloads of the book; and JPG downloads of the catalogue images.

This book was released on 2022-05-10 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the previous scholarship on Paestan red-figure pottery has focused on the cataloguing of collections, the attribution of vases to painters and workshops, iconographic and stylistic matters, and individual vessels and vase forms. This partly reflects the history of vase-painting scholarship, which grew out of antiquarian collecting during 18th and 19th centuries, and partly the fact that a full archaeological provenance is not preserved for the majority of vessels. This book uses a database containing in excess of 1,800 vessels and fragments to identify patterns in the production and decoration of Paestan vases that cast light on the choices made by vase-producers and the preferences of their customers. It considers the popularity of different vessel shapes over time, the use of highly generic decorative scenes, which are characteristic of Paestan red-figure, as well as the popularity of scenes of myth, images of the gods, and scenes of nude and half-draped women. Paestan red-figure is compared with the vessels decorated in Applied Red produced at the same site. A comparison is also made between the output of the Paestan red-figure industry and that of Apulia. As the majority of the vases in the sample derive from tombs, the patterns identified provide insights into the ways in which the ancient populations of Paestum and South-West Italy commemorated the dead.
