Book excerpt: Life is not a game. There are no rules. So why do we, as women, place limits on ourselves by allowing society to dictate who we are supposed to be and the roles we are expected to play? True happiness is achieved when we know ourselves well and are strong enough to pave our own way. "Single, Self-sufficient, and Successful" is Manju's own journey in which she shows how unconventional paths and creative decisions can lead to a very successful and fulfilling life. She has forged through cultural barriers and against societal expectations with passion and persistence to create the life she always dreamed for herself. Her hope with this book is to inspire women to follow their dreams and to create and achieve the goals they set for themselves, ultimately finding true happiness within.
Book Synopsis The One Thing You Need to Know by : Marcus Buckingham
Download or read book The One Thing You Need to Know written by Marcus Buckingham and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-09-04 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on a wide body of research, including extensive in-depth interviews, THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO KNOW reveals the central insights that lie at the core of: Great Managing, Great Leadership and Great Careers. Buckingham uses a wealth of relevant examples to reveal that at the heart of each insight lies a controlling insight. Lose sight of this 'one thing' and all of your best efforts at managing, leading, or individual achievement will be diminished. For great managing, the controlling insight has less to do with fairness, or team building, or clear expectations (although all are important). Rather, the one thing great managers know is the need to discover and then capitalize on what is unique about each person. For leadership, the controlling insight is the opposite - discover and capitalize on what is universal to all your people, regardless of differences in personality, race, sex, or age. For sustained individual success, the controlling insight is the need to discover what you don't like doing, and know how and when to stop doing it. In every way a groundbreaking work, THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO KNOW offers crucial performance and career lessons for business people at every level.

Book Synopsis Cultivating Success in the South by : Louis A. Ferleger
Download or read book Cultivating Success in the South written by Louis A. Ferleger and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-28 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores changes in rural households of the Georgia Piedmont through the material culture of farmers as they transitioned from self-sufficiency to market dependence. The period between 1880 and 1910 was a time of dynamic change when Southern farmers struggled to reinvent their lives and livelihoods. Relying on primary documents, including probate inventories, tax lists, state and federal census data, and estate sale results, this study seeks to understand the variables that prompted farm households to assume greater risk in hopes of success as well as those factors that stood in the way of progress. While there are few projects of this type for the late nineteenth century, and fewer still for the New South, the findings challenge the notion of farmers as overly conservative consumers and call into question traditional views of conspicuous consumption as a key indicator of wealth and status.

Book Synopsis Realistic Decision Theory by : Paul Weirich
Download or read book Realistic Decision Theory written by Paul Weirich and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2004-09-16 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within traditional decision theory, common decision principles -- e.g. the principle to maximize utility -- generally invoke idealization; they govern ideal agents in ideal circumstances. In Realistic Decision Theory, Paul Weirch adds practicality to decision theory by formulating principles applying to nonideal agents in nonideal circumstances, such as real people coping with complex decisions. Bridging the gap between normative demands and psychological resources, Realistic Decision Theory is essential reading for theorists seeking precise normative decision principles that acknowledge the limits and difficulties of human decision-making.
