Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two college friends are gearing up for their first outstation trip together, but the adventure starts much before the journey. One of them seems to be getting it all – he meets his ex in an auto, makes out on a train, becomes the love interest of another guy on a ropeway, and ends up in the arms of a stranger – while the other is left wondering why. Come, travel with two immature friends whose casual trip turns into an experience of a lifetime. They lie to their parents, make friends on the way, get stuck in a haunted building, meet beautiful girls and spend their evenings listening to breathtaking experiences of strangers. But when they finally breathe after a series of adventures, they aren't the same anymore. Sinful Crossroads is a story of how random things sometimes add up to make for the most important life-lessons.

Book excerpt: To the dismayed and disappointed disciples making their way back home to Emmaus the Sunday afternoon following the crucifixion of Jesus, the resurrected Lord came alongside them and taught them all things concerning Himself from the scriptures beginning with Moses and the prophets. From scripture, He showed them how a crucified Messiah fulfilled all which had been written concerning His redemptive work as Immanuel (God with us). He opened their eyes to understand God’s salvation plan for fallen man and His role in completing that work. This daily devotional seeks to show how scripture reveals the Lord Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, and He stands at the crossroads between eternal life with God and eternal life separated from God. It is my sincerest prayer and desire that you will see His glory reflected in the scriptural texts for each day, the associated meditations of my heart, and be compelled to take up your cross and follow Him to victory and glory. “To my wife, Carol and sons: Thomas, Michael and Solomon. I would not have written this book were it not for you and our mutual loved ones.”

Book Synopsis Beyond the Crossroads by : Adam Gussow
Download or read book Beyond the Crossroads written by Adam Gussow and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The devil is the most charismatic and important figure in the blues tradition. He's not just the music's namesake ("the devil's music"), but a shadowy presence who haunts an imagined Mississippi crossroads where, it is claimed, Delta bluesman Robert Johnson traded away his soul in exchange for extraordinary prowess on the guitar. Yet, as scholar and musician Adam Gussow argues, there is much more to the story of the devil and the blues than these cliched understandings. In this groundbreaking study, Gussow takes the full measure of the devil's presence. Working from original transcriptions of more than 125 recordings released during the past ninety years, Gussow explores the varied uses to which black southern blues people have put this trouble-sowing, love-wrecking, but also empowering figure. The book culminates with a bold reinterpretation of Johnson's music and a provocative investigation of the way in which the citizens of Clarksdale, Mississippi, managed to rebrand a commercial hub as "the crossroads" in 1999, claiming Johnson and the devil as their own.

Book Synopsis Theology and Social Issues in Africa by : Francis Anekwe Oborji
Download or read book Theology and Social Issues in Africa written by Francis Anekwe Oborji and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-11-22 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Volume speaks to us from the heart and engages the socio-political concerns in the Nigerian context through the lens of a theological approach. The author reflects historically the numerous consequences of the amalgamation of the ethnic groups of different orientations in Nigeria into one socio-political structure of the colonizers interests. This sociopolitical structure raises several questions than answers it pretends to offer the indigenous people. From a Nigerian point of view, the articles in this volume critically challenge the unjust formation of any nationhood in the Africa context. It points out how the sustenance of an unjust nation formation betrays the creed on which such a nation is established. “Truth conquers all” is the spirit with which this Volume is written. It is the truth that will set a nation like Nigeria free from the spirit of confusion and unperceived religio-socio-political syncretism. The awareness emanating from this volume suggests liberating steps from the unsuspicious colonial interests and the sustained feigned relationship with the colonizers which militate against the socio-political and economic growth, and theological orthodoxy of such a growing nation.

Book Synopsis The Bible at Cultural Crossroads by : Harriet Hill
Download or read book The Bible at Cultural Crossroads written by Harriet Hill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-07-16 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bible translators have focused their efforts on preparing a text that is clear, natural and accurate, with the expectation that audiences will understand the message if it is in their language. Field research among the Adioukrou of Côte d'Ivoire shows that audiences also need to have access to the contextual information the author expected his audience to bring to the text. When such information is provided, both understanding of and interest in the message increase dramatically. These findings support Relevance Theory's claim that meaning is inferred from the interaction of text and context. To the extent that the contextual knowledge evoked by the text for contemporary audiences differs from that evoked for the first audience, understanding is impaired. The Bible at Cultural Crossroads presents a model to assist translators in identifying contextual mismatches and applies it on the thematic level to mismatches between first-century Jewish and Adioukrou views of the unseen world, and on the passage level to contextual mismatches arising from four Gospel passages. In-text and out-of-text solutions for adjusting contextual mismatches are explored, with field research results showing the effectiveness of various solutions. Context is shown to be both a significant factor in communication and a dynamic one. Translations of the text alone are not sufficient for successful communication.
Book Synopsis The Theology of the Cross and Marx's Anthropology by : Winston D. Persaud

This book was released on 2005-09-13 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a fascinating, major articulation of a contemporary theology of the cross in response to the soteriological challenge of Karl Marx's anthropological 'Weltanschauung.' The author focuses primarily on the much neglected 'Early Writings' (1844 Manuscripts), in which Marx himself provides a necessary humanistic critique of officialÓ Marxism. The theology of the cross, which the author articulates, is centered in Luther's 'theologia crucis,' Moltmann's crucified God,Ó and Latin American (liberation) theology's divine identification and solidarity with the poor and oppressed.Ó Specifically, the context of the work is the Caribbean and the Americas.
