Book excerpt: Logic circuits are becoming increasingly susceptible to probabilistic behavior caused by external radiation and process variation. In addition, inherently probabilistic quantum- and nano-technologies are on the horizon as we approach the limits of CMOS scaling. Ensuring the reliability of such circuits despite the probabilistic behavior is a key challenge in IC design---one that necessitates a fundamental, probabilistic reformulation of synthesis and testing techniques. This monograph will present techniques for analyzing, designing, and testing logic circuits with probabilistic behavior.

Book excerpt: This Book On A Very Topical Subject Is Aimed At Engineers Who Either Use Or Develop Cad Tools For Circuit Design, Be It At The Discrete Device Level Or At The Lsi/Vlsi Level. The Book Is Unique In The Sense That It Covers Analog Circuit Simulation, Device Models, Logic Simulation And Fault Simulation. These Topics Traditionally Belong To Different Areas Of Electrical Engineering And Are Therefore Not Covered In One Book. However, A Person Doing Circuit Design On A Computer Today Needs To Know All Aspects Of The Simulation. This Book Attempts To Satisfy This Need. Many Examples Of Programs As Well As Applications Are Given. Every Chapter Contains Solved As Well As Unsolved Problems. In Addition, Programming Assignments Are Included. Mathematics Has Been Kept To A Minimum And An Intuitive Approach Has Been Taken. The Background Required Is That Of Final Year Undergraduate In Electrical Engineering. It Is Expected That Much Of This Material Would Percolate Down To More Basic Courses In Future Years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book begins with four introductory chapters devoted to Boolean algebraic functions and Binary Decision Diagrams. The rest of the book is based on original results obtained by the author from 1994 to 2014 and reflected, in particular, in English-language conference and journal publications (ISLPD, ICCAD, ED and TC, ISQED, DATE, ACM transactions, etc.), and also in multiple publications in Russian. This manuscript is divided into two parts: Chapters One through Five discuss the theory and applications of decision diagrams, while Chapters Six through Nine concentrate on the theory and applications of logic correlations between circuit signals. Chapter Five contains the results on the BDD of a special type (SP-BDD) and their applications to analysis and optimization of digital CMOS circuits. The second part contains the results on theory and applications of logic correlations between circuit signals (logic implications). The following applications are considered: noise analysis of digital circuits (both functional and delay noise), timing analysis with detecting false paths, and digital circuit obfuscation. Chapter Nine explains the use of TDD (Ternary Decision Diagrams) in digital CMOS simulation with uncertainty--in particular, with power simulation--and both with and without accounting for logic implications. The principal audiences for the book are mathematicians and software developers, primarily working in microelectronics CAD.

Book excerpt: This book describes new, fuzzy logic-based mathematical apparatus, which enable readers to work with continuous variables, while implementing whole circuit simulations with speed, similar to gate-level simulators and accuracy, similar to circuit-level simulators. The author demonstrates newly developed principles of digital integrated circuit simulation and optimization that take into consideration various external and internal destabilizing factors, influencing the operation of digital ICs. The discussion includes factors including radiation, ambient temperature, electromagnetic fields, and climatic conditions, as well as non-ideality of interconnects and power rails.

It is a SPICE-based circuit simulator which combines analog, discrete-time, and mixed-mode circuits. In addition, it is the only simulator which incorporates microcontroller simulation in the same environment. It also includes a tool for printed circuit board design. Advanced Circuit Simulation Using Multisim Workbench is a companion book to Circuit Analysis Using Multisim, published by Morgan & Claypool in 2011. This new book covers advanced analyses and the creation of models and subcircuits. It also includes coverage of transmission lines, the special elements which are used to connect components in PCBs and integrated circuits. Finally, it includes a description of Ultiboard, the tool for PCB creation from a circuit description in Multisim. Both books completely cover most of the important features available for a successful circuit simulation with Multisim. Table of Contents: Models and Subcircuits / Transmission Lines / Other Types of Analyses / Simulating Microcontrollers / PCB Design With Ultiboard

Book excerpt: The presence of uncertainty in a system description has always been a critical issue in control. The main objective of Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems, with Applications (Second Edition) is to introduce the reader to the fundamentals of probabilistic methods in the analysis and design of systems subject to deterministic and stochastic uncertainty. The approach propounded by this text guarantees a reduction in the computational complexity of classical control algorithms and in the conservativeness of standard robust control techniques. The second edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect recent research and new applications with chapters on statistical learning theory, sequential methods for control and the scenario approach being completely rewritten. Features: · self-contained treatment explaining Monte Carlo and Las Vegas randomized algorithms from their genesis in the principles of probability theory to their use for system analysis; · development of a novel paradigm for (convex and nonconvex) controller synthesis in the presence of uncertainty and in the context of randomized algorithms; · comprehensive treatment of multivariate sample generation techniques, including consideration of the difficulties involved in obtaining identically and independently distributed samples; · applications of randomized algorithms in various endeavours, such as PageRank computation for the Google Web search engine, unmanned aerial vehicle design (both new in the second edition), congestion control of high-speed communications networks and stability of quantized sampled-data systems. Randomized Algorithms for Analysis and Control of Uncertain Systems (second edition) is certain to interest academic researchers and graduate control students working in probabilistic, robust or optimal control methods and control engineers dealing with system uncertainties. The present book is a very timely contribution to the literature. I have no hesitation in asserting that it will remain a widely cited reference work for many years. M. Vidyasagar

Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing. house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 25 (thesis year 1980) a total of 10,308 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 214 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 25 reports theses submitted in 1980, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
